I stop walking and I feel an arm drape over me: Shawn. I look up at him and try to smile. His face falls, "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing...I'm fine."
"Yeah? And I'm the Wizard of Oz." Shawn turns me around so can face him. He looks at me with furrowed brows and concerned eyes. I open my mouth then close it, "I'm not going to do that to you."
"I'm asking for it."
I stay silent. Shawn huffs and offers, "If I tell you my situation, would you tell me yours."
I raise a brow. I never knew Shawn had a situation. Frankly, I didn't really know a lot about him. "Fine."
He nods once, "So boom. I have a girl." I widen my eyes. He continues, "And she's pregnant. The best part is, I know she cheats on me with my supposed homie. Thing is, I can't even get over this woman, even though I know I should...Your turn."
"I-I...My man's been cheating on me with this chick named Tyana and he's been spending damn near all of his time and money on her. He only comes home for dinner and he's gone when I wake up in the morning. So last week was out anniversary and I dressed up, made a special meal, you know. And he... he... didn't remember, and thought I was expecting you. To top it all off, he was with his girl that day doing whatever it is that they do." I take a deep breath, trying not to cry. "So there."
After a beat, Shawn grabs my hands and says, "We deserve better."
"But we're not gonna get it are we?"
"No...but we can try to make them better for us," Shawn suggests. I nod and we stand there looking into each other's eyes. We lean into each other and our lips connect. We melt into each other and his hands let go of mine to hold on to my waist, while my arms wrap around his neck.
Backing away for air, we realize what we just did.
"I'm sorry!" we blurt at the same time. I let him speak, "I know I love you but..."
"Not as much as we love our peoples," I finish. He nods and we hug. He wispers next to my ear, "We'll get better."
And I know he's not talking about attaining better.
The next chapter is one of the worst I've ever written. Please read the warnings in the next chapter. I really hate putting my characters through this.
