The Elven child stood there bewildered, eyes widening and a bright blush blooming on her cheeks.
"r-really?" she states, a smile now making itself visible. "thats, so reasurring to hear."
She looks down and the glow of a silent tear falls, making it's arrival known but hidden. She had begun crying briefly, stopped, and wiped her tears away with her hand. With eyes fueled with passion, excitement, and the residue of tears, she gave me a nod.
"I won't let this opportunity go to waste, sir."
She began to walk back, only to get tackled by the devil girl brandishing bright pink hair. The two began to laugh and cry, hugging eachother tightly as the boy looked over and smiled, telling the elf she was going to do great things.
While it was a heartwarming sight, I still had a job. These kids seemed unique from the get go and I had wanted to learn more about them, especially the human. Unlike the other two, there was something off about him that I couldn't quite understand, and now is finally the time to unveil his secret.
"Next on line, son of Ron Cyprus."
The silver haired boy looked towards me, the smiling fading into a more serious expression. He began walking towards me, with each step carrying more burden than the one before.
"You have some strong friends, kiddo," I express as I flip through my notepad in search of an empty page. In any other scenario, I wouldn't need a blank page as most humans often have the same capabilities and prowess, but it would be hypocritical of me to assume he wasn't a one in a million like I was.
"Yeah I know, they are incredible aren't they?" the kid replies, a smirk forming from the corner of his lips. "Who knew being a different race would show such difference in power?"
"Hah you said it. What was your name again? You might be able to match them considering your parents are quite formidable."
"The names Noah," he replied, the smile that had formed fading away with every passing moment. "Should we get started?"
"Loving the enthusiasm, let's see what you got to offer Noah."
I take out my pen and begin to write down his name, height, and weight. While the height and weight aren't as important, it may contribute to the overall potential of a mage.
"Noah, bring out your mana orb for me."
"Yes sir," he replied, sticking out his hand and closing his eyes.
I carefully observed him; from the way his eyes twitched to the way his mana flowed through him within his bloodstream. As his mana orb expanded, the pressure it began to let off increased significantly, which to be honest had caught me by surprise. An icy chill began to circulate around us, flowing into the growing shape as its size increased.
As it finished forming, the prisms crystaline color gave off an icy reflection off of its triangular shape. It looked mesmerizing, almost making me forget its abnormal pressure. Compared to the other two, I could tell his mana art control was superior and had far more potential. Considering that he is also a striker was another abnormality as strikers have less control compared to the other two classes.
"Wow, well is that a sight to behold," I say, still astonished from its surprising strength.
I covered my hand in mana and atempted to touch the orb, feeling its chilling reign the instant contact was made. Using more mana, I began to dissect the glassy prism. Feeling the particles get accustomed to his core, the icy aura began to disipate and soften, a trait that all ice mages had. This is where I would solidify his affinity, but there was something off.
Ice mana arts users are are far more delicate to this procedure, often scowling from the radiating pain within their chest. Every affinity had its disctict reaction to this, with ice being the most diverse as the user would feel that pain due the fragile nature of their core.
Noah's was different. It felt soft, yet sturdy. No sign of a brittle structure, but a hardened and condensed one instead.
As I explored more of his core, the dawning sensation of dread slowly overtook me. Before I had a chance to think, a sharp pain radiated throughout my back, causing me to jolt back.
What the hell?
Noah opened his eyes, a confused expression plastered on his face.
"Is everything ok, sir?"
Igniting my inignia, I turned back towards him with an icy glare.
"Everything's fine, close your eyes and focus."
He reluctantly agreed, confusion now replaced with worry.
I walk up to the mana rob again, this time covering myself in an ample amount of mana to see what was plauging his core. Placing my right hand on the orb, I close my eyes as i felt the world around me slow down.
I began to spread my mana particles, bracing myself as the unpleasant feeling of dread began to overcome me once more. The sharp pain returned, this time with more magnitude, most likely from my own pressure that I had been exerting. I endured it, wanting to see if there was anything that might be behind this pain staking experience. And there I saw it, black particles emerging from within his core, conjoining to form a sphere of vanta black mana.
Black particles... don't tell me.. does this child have a dual affinity?
I exit the core and relax, the pressure around us dissipating.
"Noah," I state with full authority. "That will be enough."
He opens his eyes once more and looks at me before he breaks concentration, his mana orb flickering and breaking off like a sheet of ice.
"Let me see your insignia."
He nods, revealing his back and pointing at his neck.
"Ignite it."
"Is everything okay, sir? You seem angry."
I keep my eyes trained on him but soften my frown into a smile.
"Questions later, kiddo. Let's finish with this examination first."
He gave off an expression of confusion and worry that had become more apparent than before, but began to relax. He closed his eyes and ignited the insignia, the head of silver hair flowing wildly from its pressure.
2 near transparent lines and a dotted line spotting that same vanta black color.
A smile crept up on my face as I finally began to connect the dots and make my judgement. I was sure of it.
