Chains that bind us

Lord Rousseau

Lord Rousseau

Jan 14, 2023

*Five minutes earlier.

"Straighten your back, you look unappealing with that posture," Oliviér quietly groused before rapping his curled fingers on the wooden hall doors of the Rousseau Villa.

Elizabeth who was wearing Oliviér's shirt refrained from rolling her eyes. "May I know why we're here sir?" She asked, still gazing at the hall doors.

They had arrived at the Rousseau Villa in Ayhorn District.

Oliviér shifted his golden-red eyes to the corner watching her face which had turned bloated and slightly red from irritation. He never knew red was such an appealing color on Commoners.

"A couple of documents were sent to me early dawn. It turned out before his execution Gentry Galloway had confessed to trying to sell some kind of artifact to the dead Lord… but the Investigator found no such thing on the crime scene."

Elizabeth snapped her head towards him. Her eyebrows dipped. "But, isn't it possible that Bleach took the artifact? "It" had killed everyone so "it"could have taken the artifact."

Oliviér's eyes remained trained on the door. "Hm. It is, although Bleach is only renowned for being a butcher, "it" could have also taken the artifact, but whether it took it does not matter in the slightest, what matters is discovering where Gentry found the artifact."

Elizabeth's confusion deepened. Were they not on the case to find Bleach? What did finding an artifact have to di with anything.

Oliviér whose eyes had descended at her short frame obviously stumped by his reply. Her canine was grazing her lower lip whilst her foreskin scrunched.

…This one…. How did she pass the Junior Investigative Podium's exam? "Stupid rabbit…" he whispered, continuing to take in her figure.

"Gentry confessed that the artifact had a connection with Bleach, he was tortured severely but his response was that only the dead Lord knew what the connection was. And if Bleach took the artifact then it would only reinforce our belief that the artifact is important to the case."

Elizabeth suddenly nodded rapidly. So it was like this? The artifact had some kind of attachment to the butcher? The butcher may have very well taken the artifact after slaughtering everyone. So Oliviér had brought her here to discover how Gentry had found the artifact? Why? How could this place help them?

Oliviér watched the shift of expressions on her face, amused, the stupid rabbit had taken lefts and rights and then backed herself to a corner. What was so hard for her to understand?

"Sometimes I am baffled by my decision to take you in as my assistant whilst your intelligence seems to dumb down with each exchange between us," Oliviér drawled, sounding bored.

He watched the shade of light red that had disappeared begin to rekindle on her face. The round cheeks began bloating as her neck and ears slowly turned red, a marvellous color, alluring yet daring…. Like a fire.

The Hybrid Commoner was upset again. Perhaps he would speak such words daily so he could see her amusing reaction. He had seen it a couple of times now, it should have gotten old…. But she made it look even more entertaining every different time.

"This home belongs to the former Duke of the Rousseau Duchy in North Hara, he has been living in Ayhorn District for a while now, apparently Gentry had spent quite a period here before his meeting with the dead Lord. Ayhorn District keeps check-in signatures at every junctures and settlement and then submits it to their Mayor every month, we can use the check-ins to narrow where Gentry frequented during his stay. The owner of this Villa is Ayhorn's Mayor."

Elizabeth's eyelashes fluttered, and her small lips parted for a marveled huff to escape it. "So that's why we're here?" Her eyes twinkled with excitement.

Oliviér's lips twitched. "Did I also mention I wish to reconnect with an old friend–?"

"Brother Oliviér!"

The hall doors had opened. A startled Elizabeth narrowed her eyes to the front. A man stood at the front.

Elizabeth blinked…. How odd? This man had this strange pale white hair, the hair dropped to his shoulders while the top bunch of the locks were tied by a black knot very neatly.

His eyes were just as slim and sharp as Oliviér's, if not even sharper, and just underneath his dark maroon eyes was a thin stain of bright red well drawn closest to his lower eyelashes.

He was wearing a black tailcoat, and slim printed trousers, and his hands were placed behind his back.

Ignoring his…. Odd appearance, why was this man calling Oliviér brother Oli–

"Brother Oliviér," a figure just as tall as the white haired male sauntered from behind him.

A light olive skinned woman stepped out. Her skin was glossier and much brighter than Elizabeth who also had olive skin. She was incredibly tall as well, nearly standing on equal footing with Oliviér who Elizabeth considered tall.

Her face was a delicate rectangular shape. Her lips were plum and a bit wide, her nose proportioned carefully and nobly. She stared at Oliviér, joy and adoration filling her bloodshot eyes which had thin dark red veins underneath it.

This delicate looking female was a War Wolf? Elizabeth's lips twitched at the discovery.

Her rib length curly chalk-white locks swayed whilst she walked towards Oliviér, straight thin fingers holding onto a piece of her bell-shaped fair blue gown, entangled with lace materials.

She only stopped before Oliviér's front, looking directly into his cat-like golden-red eyes, her plum light red lips curling into a bright obvious smile.

Elizabeth nearly sniffed. What a brave lady, standing so close to Oliviér and looking directly into his eyes. Was she the only one who feared this man?

Oliviér on the other hand allowed his red lips to hook slightly into a "sweet" smile. Elizabeth stiffened at the smile she found frightening rather than kind, while the lady's smile brightened upon seeing it.

…. This woman…. Elizabeth was speechless.

Was this the difference between a War Wolf and a Half-breed Myriad? Oliviér's "sweet" smile did not frighten her at all?

"My Lady, Constance," Oliviér's fingers picked the Lady's thinner hand and kissed the back of her hand.

Elizabeth stopped herself from rolling her eyes. This deceiver.

The Lady looked even brighter upon having Oliviér's lips on her skin. "Brother Oliviér I had been expecting you since, I asked Marcel to prepare all of your favorite dishes."

"Lady Constance is even kinder than I remember, might I come into your home my Lady." Oliviér's words were so gentle and sweet when heard.

Elizabeth wanted to lament out loud. So she was the only female he was so snarky with?

The Lady nodded, obviously finally remembering herself. She shifted from the way, standing beside Oliviér as he entered.

"My brother is waiting for you upstairs, would you like me to take you to him?" Lady Constance asked, not leaving Oliviér's side.

Oliviér nodded. "Of course."

In that moment did the man in the tailcoat finally speak, breaking them from their personal bubble. "My Lord, will the Miss escort you to Master Rousseau?"

Elizabeth realized the tailcoat man was speaking of her when the Lady's bloodshot eyes landed on her.

It was quick, it was fast, nearly non-existent but Elizabeth's eyes caught it. The lady's nose had scrunched for a split second, something Elizabeth did not like flashed in her bloodshot eyes.

"G-good day My Lady," Elizabeth spoke, bowing her head at the Woman staring at her.

"Who might this be, Brother Oliviér?" She did not bother hiding the boredom in her voice, as if she did not really care to know who the girl was.

Oliviér's smile widened a fraction. "My new assistant, work has been harder these days, shall we go now?"

Lady Constance removed her eyes from Elizabeth's direction and turned back to Oliviér where her smile revived.

She nodded, and began to climb the stairs of the spacious Villa.

Oliviér glanced at Elizabeth's direction. "Wait here a moment assistant," was all he said before walking off with the Lady and tailcoat man.

Elizabeth was stumped once again today. Wait here? Wait here what?

Elizabeth stood inside a large mansion in a shirt that made her look like a homeless beggar and breeches which were her own along with her boots.

She crossed her hands over her chest, flushed face staring at the stairs the maid in the home escorted Oliviér up to.

Bastard…. Ugly…. Wait no…. Horrible bastard. The more she glared at the pristine stairs as if it was the root of her problem the more her anger rose.

"Ugh!" She reverberated, arms flailing up in the air and slapping against a small vase, sending it falling onto the ground and breaking at collision.

She slapped her palm on her mouth as she saw the mess she had created.

"I heard that it costs a fortune."

Elizabeth froze. She swallowed, her head stiffly turned. She met eyes with a set of regular brown eyes.

"So the perpetrator is such a beauty?" She heard a raspy deep voice say.

Hey! What? She raised her eyes even higher to the sight of a big man smirking down at her smaller frame.

"What is it, vushka?"

*AUTHOR'S NOTE

Vushka means Beauty in the lower dialect of the Harians. Harians speak the upper dialect and lower dialect, the lower dialect is basically the traditional Harian which few people speak, whilst the upper dialect is the modernized version of the language mixed with English.

Either way, very few Harians speak their language.

I wanted to reaffirm this but hybrids like Elizabeth also known as Myriads can use magic, but it is an unacceptable kind of magic aka Forbidden Magic or Source Magic, why? That'll pop up later.

Yes, at this point Brother Oliviér is a tsundere :-)

"A Commoner is worth more than a grain of sand, a Half breed is even worse, and you are both, the worst of two worlds, truly you are pitiful….but your fidelity happens to be worth more than both noble and commoner combined. Is that not an interesting fact?"— Oliviér Lé Fóix.

"I agree that aside from evangelism there is a sinful agenda but how can you judge my faith when you tempt me by standing in my house with your bare breasts in my sight?"— Sebastién Wright.

"You can pray we are interrupted so you do not say yes when I ask if I can rip your underwear and play with your pulsing little clit, Vixen."— Nicolas Dé Penthiévre.

"Haha, you've got me, I really have other plans besides seducing you into convincing that bastard for me, I want to fuck you, I mean the thought has been fucking me in the brain since I saw your bright and cheery face. I want my cock to tear that jaw."— Constantine Rousseau.
