This was inspired by the buttons for eyes scene from Coraline, but it is also a reference to Persephone eating the pomegranate which traps her in the Underworld every Winter season. I named the woman Evelyn as reference to Eve eating the apple/fig, although in that case Eve was permanently thrown out of Eden instead of being trapped there forever.
Perhaps, Evelyn would acquire some forbidden knowledge if she eats the berry?
