Levi’s P.O.V:
Kayden and I were sitting in the coffee shop discussing the plans for the coming multicultural day. We drank our coffees; he drank his coffee while I sipped on my hot chocolate since I could not stand the taste of coffee. He gave me a weirded-out look when he found out, claiming I wasn’t human for surviving without coffee. I sneak a look at him to find him already staring at me.
“What is it? Is there something on my face?” I questioned, touching my face to make sure I didn’t embarrass myself again. But instead, he laughs and looks back at me with a sexy smirk.
“There is nothing on your face. I… was just looking,” He states as he takes the last sip from his coffee.
“Levi, do you trust me?” He asked with a serious look on his face.
“Yes, of course. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, everything is fine. There is something I want to show you. So do you want to get out of here?” Kayden whispered as he leaned closer to me.
“Oh, y-yes, um, you can show me,” I stuttered, getting nervous at his close proximity.
As we leave, he takes my hand in his and pulls me out of the cafe. I followed him silently, not knowing what was happening, but the feeling of his smooth hand holding mine, his warmth flowed into me like a cup of comforting hot chocolate on a cold day. Next thing I know, we are in a park alone, and Kayden lets go of my hand, causing a small inaudible whimper to escape from my lips.
“What are we doing here?” I asked him, turning my head around to look at our surroundings. The trees were bright green, and the sky was slightly cloudy, but the rays of sunshine escaped through the cracks left by the gentle clouds. I feel hands on my shoulder as I feel his rock-hard body pressed against my back.
“Kayde-”
“Shhh!”
He interrupts me as I feel his hands wrap around my waist, sending shivers down my spine. I close my eyes, withering in the feeling of his strong muscles wrapping around me in the most gentle way as shock waves travel through my body. He leaned in, and my toes curled as his lips brushed my ear.
“Levi,” He whispered in his raspy voice. My knees almost buckled from the weakness caused by his breath caressing my neck.
I was speechless. My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of the water as my brain tried to form words to answer him. Finally, I turned around in his arms to face him. As I look into his eyes, I see him smile, and he opens his mouth to say something.
“Ever since I laid eyes on you on that bus, I’ve always wanted to do one thing,” He whispers as he gets closer, our noses almost touching. His hand climbed up to caress my cheek gently.
“I’ve always wanted to kis-”
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP!!!
My alarm screamed in my ears, pulling me out of my heaven. Damn it, why couldn’t you wait a couple more minutes.
Why?!
“Ugh! I hate you. You useless piece of shit. If only you didn't exist,” I glared angrily at my alarm, hoping it would explode. Instead, I turn it off and lay back down, processing the dream's events. My heart constricts at the memory of his arms around me. It felt so real that my heart is going haywire.
“This is getting out of hand,” I mumbled as I mustered all my strength to get out of bed and do my morning routine.
What a great start… note the sarcasm.
“What?!” Jace screams from next to me.
“What? What happened? Why the fuck are you screaming in my ears?” I retort, annoyed.
“You never told me about this dream? Why did you not tell me? Why?” He held me the collar of my shirt and shook me repeatedly.
Oh god, how could I forget? I am never going to hear the end of it, ever.
“I’m so sorry, Jace, I completely forgot; it was a hectic day for me,” I say, giving him a hug knowing it would calm him down the tiniest bit.
“Okay, fine, but if I found out you hid something else from me, you will regret it,” He says as he hugs me back, and I sigh in relief. Crisis avoided… for now.
“But dude, seriously, you never told me you had dreams about Kayden” He smirks at me.
“Oh, shush.” I push him off me and try to continue writing.
“Well, at least it wasn’t a wet one.” He burst into laughter.
I deserve this. I did this to myself. I got to learn to make better friends.
His laugh gets louder and louder at my reaction.
“SHUT UP!”
I made my way down the stairs to find mom and dad sitting at the table having breakfast.
“Good morning,” I grumbled as I pulled my chair to sit down.
“Well, good morning sunshine, you look like someone kicked you in your dream. Do I need to get my dream fighting gear?” My dad laughs at his own jokes like it’s the funniest thing ever.
Mom and I looked at him unamused. He realised that we were not laughing with him, which made him pout like a little kid.
“It’s too early for this,” mom adds while taking a sip of her coffee.
Dad laughed and continued eating as if nothing had happened. I joined their eating in silence and enjoyed the peace and quiet surrounding the table.
—-------------------------------------------
“Okay, I’m leaving now,” I yelled out to my parents as I put my shoes on.
“Have a great day, don’t get into fights. I know how much of a bad boy you are.” My dad yelled back.
“Hah, you're a funny old man. Good to know you didn’t lose that sense of humour with your age.” I smiled, knowing what was about to happen and quickly went out the door.
“Get your ass back here, Levi, and say it to my face,” I heard his footsteps as I left the house running.
I smiled as I walked to the bus stop, appreciating the music flowing through my earphones. On my morning walks, I like to listen to classical music, which makes the morning better. As I am enjoying, Yruma’s ‘River flows in you’. I see Jace waiting for me at the end of the street with a frown and his hands on his hips as he tapped his foot furiously on the floor.
“Shit…” I had forgotten entirely about Jace and my Houdini act with him yesterday. I am absolutely and utterly screwed. I took out my earphones as I turned my beloved music off and put them in my pocket.
“H-hey, Jace. Good morning to you, my friend. Did you sleep well?” I get closer to him. I can basically feel the anger bouncing off him. I gulped, waiting for him to explode.
But instead, all I get is silence… oh no, he’s furious. You know you have screwed up badly when Jace stays silent, and a quiet Jace is much more difficult to please.
“Look, I’m sorry, I really am. I was having a confusing day and just didn’t know what to say. Please don’t be angry.” I pleaded with my best friend pulling my best puppy face out of my arsenal of ‘things to please Jace’.
Silence.
We kept walking to the bus stop, and Jace was just silent. My puppy face did not work. What the hell am I going to do?
Where are Alex and Leo when you need them? They were much better at handling angry Jace than me. They’d just tease him into submission; boom, he forgets he was mad in the first place.
“Jace, please talk to me; let’s not do this pleaseeeeee” I attempt again, trying my luck.
“If you were struggling, you should have come to me and told me, what am I your best friend for anyway?” He said.
There we go, keep talking, Jace, keep talking.
“I was worried about you since you seemed upset in the morning, and I kept thinking, what if something bad happened? Then you pull your stunt at lunch of showing up late after you refuse to tell me what happened. How could you expect me not to be angry?”
Seeing how upset Jace has hurt me, I did not mean it would be like this. I was so wrapped up in my own bullshit that I made Jace worry aimlessly.
I run to hug him and whisper how sorry I am for making him feel this way.
“I promise, Jace, it won’t happen again; I was wrapped up in my own thoughts that I didn’t stop to think about what I did,” I said as I hugged him tighter. I felt his hands snake behind me as he hugged me back.
“Could you please just tell me what’s wrong? I can’t take you not telling me anything.” So now it was his turn to give me puppy eyes, which I could not resist for the life of me. Jace was just too freaking adorable.
“Okay, I will tell you but promise you won’t overreact,” I told him, hoping he would actually keep this promise.
“Okay, I promise,” He held his pinkie out to me, and I laughed at his adorableness.
I tell Jace the events of what happened at lunch, me almost falling, working with Kayden and meeting him today after school. But, I avoided revealing too much about my feelings, the phone call or my dream, especially my dream.
“What? All that happened yesterday that’s insane.” He tried to say calmly, but I could see his eyes wanting to explode with squeals.
“Yes, so I avoided you at lunch because I didn’t know what to tell you without you overreacting and causing a scene,” I told him as we sat down to wait for the bus.
“Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I would’ve exploded in the middle of the food court.” He said as we both laughed, imagining his reaction.
“But Lee, that’s such a great thing. It must’ve been fate just wanting to bring you two together. Ahhh, this is exciting, I must tell Amari.” He takes his phone out to text Amari, but I stop him.
“No, you can't. Amari already knows too much. Plus, he’s Kayden’s friend. So I'm sure he already knows.” I explained as I removed my hand from his phone. He nods in understanding.
“That’s true, okay I won't say anything for now. But you didn’t deny the fate scenario, so that means you believe it. Oh my god, I better look up places for double dates.” He squeals and takes his phone out again.
I sighed, giving up on ever explaining anything to this man-child.
“But Lee, didn’t you want to say something before lunch? So was there something else you wanted to talk about in the morning? What was that?” Jace asked as his eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Oh no, I thought he'd forget about it if I distracted him with this. Damn you, Jace, why you've got to be smart when I don’t want you to. Ugh!
“O-oh, T-that. Um… I … w-was going to ask about… a project I needed help with. Y-yes, you and Amari help me understand things better like we always do. You know, ahah.” I barely managed to get the sentence out. This is so stupid, Levi. He is totally going to see through this.
I peeked at him; his slitted eyes observed me, reading my expression. I smiled at him nervously.
“Hmm… of course it’s about homework for you. You are too serious about it, and you need to chill. It almost gave me a heart attack.” Jace’s face lights up, and I take a deep breath, finally relaxing.
He is so going to kill me once he finds out the truth. So pray for me, everyone.
The bus finally arrives, and we get on it. It is practically empty today, thank god. Jace sits next to Amari, flirting as usual, and I sit on my own as I take out my earphones and put my music back on. I look out the window admiring the views. When I feel a hand tabbing my shoulder. I take one of the earphones out and look up.
“Hi, Can I sit next to you?” He says with a smile, and my eyes shoot out of their place while my heart drums against my chest.
“K-Kayden,”
