"Do you ever get one of those dreams that won't leave you alone?" I asked Faye over the morning returns sort. If anyone could give me a good answer to what had been going on the last few days it was her. She was that friend who seemed to have some piece of advice for every occasion and though she was not a Seer many students had taken to calling her "The Oracle".
"No." She replied bluntly not even bothering to look up from the suspiciously sticky Exorcism for Beginners book that she was carefully cleaning using a holy water solution.
"Oh.." I sighed, my heart sunk into my stomach. Faye looked up then, her friend radar must have been set off by my low mood. She dumped the book into the solution which let out a small screen before turning her sharp eyed stare upon me.
"What's going on? And don't give me some BS about this being a hypothetical situation."
"I just keep having this really real dream. I wake up next to this gigantic wolf and it's just so... real." I finished rather dumbly. It was hard to describe after all.
"How real?"
"I can feel their heartbeat and their breath against my skin." I shrugged. "Just wanted to see what you thought it could be."
She seemed to look through me for a moment before snapping back full focus to answer.
"Hmm. You have two options. Most likely it is a super lucid dream, like so lucid it is hard to distinguish it from reality."
"And option two?"
"You really are waking in the middle of the night next to some gigantic wolf."
I frowned "Not sure how reassuring that is... What do you think I should do to decide between them?"
She patted my hand with a grim smile. "You have to try and bring back proof."
Poppy's life is simple. She works as a Librarian at an Arcane University, lives alone in a small flat and sometimes goes out drinking with her friends.
There is absolutely nothing special about her.
So why every night for the past month has she woken in the middle of the night in a giant wolf's embrace? Is it just a weird dream? Or is something else going on?
