Chapter 3 – Airship on the way home
I once again found myself back in the opulent cabin of Duc Damien, but this time not as a prisoner, but as a royal guest of the highest honor.
For vampires the royal family were like gods, unlike normal vampires our blood was a deep blue, our eyes reflected the shine of the blue moon. A special star constellation so rare and unique that it only occurred every 500 years. It was so unique because on said day, the sun didn’t rise, daylight never came, instead the moon shone in an intense sapphire blue. Members of the so called blue royal lineage were the definition of immortal, they could not age and die of sickness. Their wounds healed faster than any other vampire and they possessed powers far beyond imagination. While normal vampires were called immortal beings, truth be told, they were not. Normal vampires possessed a life span of approximately 300 to 600 years, nobles instead lived for over 900 years. But the blue blooded members of the royal family were not bound by concepts such as time, even if someone somehow managed to kill one of them, they would only rise again after the next blue moon. That is how I was able to wander this godforsaken planet for an eternity. After the first 10.000 years I simply stopped counting, existence was nothing more than an eternal hellish boredom and quite frankly a waste of time.
Taking another look around the cabin, this time paying more attention to details, I noticed something. A small little blue box, it was right next to an opulent desk. It piqued my interest because of its unique color, a sapphire blue, normally only used by us vampire royals.
Without hesitation I stood up and quickly made my way over to the table. Picking up the box I noticed that it was rather light, a small golden latch presented itself to me. Opening the box, my heart began to beat faster, inside there was another box. It was made from blue lapis lazuli and adorned with clear blue sapphires. At the top there was a name in golden letters, Fabergé. A Russian gold smith and jeweler of unparalleled skill, none could even come close to the magical mechanical creations of Peter Carl Fabergé, his death was truly a shame. But what he left behind was more magical than anything else ever created, easter eggs made for the Russian Tsar and his family. Fabergé only used the most expensive and most opulent materials. Full of excitement I quickly opened the second box, only to find what exactly I was hoping for in my hands.
A medium sized easter egg, the main body was made out of blue clear rock crystal adorned with blue sapphires and clear white diamonds, it stood on a foundation of opulent legs which seemed to be made out of either platin or white gold. On the top of the egg, there was a small crown which bore the sigil of the Altonis royal family, the sigil seemed to act as a button. Pushing in the top part, a melody which I hadn’t heard in ages sprung to life, the top of the egg started to open. Like a blooming flower each of the four parts opened, revealing a blue lake made out of thousands of small sapphires, two small diamond swans were swimming around the small lake. A truly magical piece of mechanics.
After I was done admiring the beautiful work of art, I safely stored it back inside its original box. Now I had a new objective, acquire said egg no matter the cost. To my knowledge nobody knew of my affection for the easter eggs created by Fabergé, but I was not so naïve as too believe this to be a coincidence. That bastard duke wanted something, but the question was, what the object of his desires was.
I was startled by the pendulum clock ringing its bells and letting me know that it was already 12 o’clock, as if my body knew, my belly suddenly growled. It was time for some delicious breakfast. Getting up from the bed again, I realized that I needed to change clothes. My attire was far from befitting any noble, let alone a royal prince. Luckily I remembered that my host had quickly ordered the on board tailor to make some garments for a member of the royal family, I hope that poor tailor did not have a hearth attack receiving said news.
Opening the closet, I quickly spotted the blue clothes prepared for me, I gasped taking a closer look at what exactly was made for me. That bastard duke was becoming worse by the minute, there was a white pair of thig highs with blue bow ties at the top, accompanied by a pair of elegant blue shoes heels, a white; blue and golden shirt along with a blue jacket. Although my features were feminine, I was in no way of the opposite gender.
Well, if that bastard duke wants to embarrass me this way, I just have to pay him back twice. Maybe I will just steal his Fabergé egg and claim that it was never there in the first place. You just wait Damien; revenge will be mine.
