Seemapur was a small village, but ever since the coal mine was found in the outskirts of the village, it was no more the case. A heavy influx of construction companies came with a lot of projects that started around it. Things got even bigger when the governor of the province decided to merge the nearby thirty small villages with Seemapur to make it a big industrial city.
The then village council was dismissed and a new body of administration under the direct subordination of the governor was created. But one problem still persisted in Seemapur, Water Shortage. Seemapur didn’t have enough water to fuel the entire development projects, so it had to import hundreds of water tankers everyday just to fulfil the construction needs. To tackle this situation, the government announced a new pipeline scheme for every citizen of Seemapur.
“Yeah! But who would have thought you would fall for it so easily, much rather fall down.”
“Yeah, yeah! Ridicule me, I’ll remember this.”
Both of them laughed heftily as they had a back and forth conversation.
This loosened up all the nervousness Santosh had in his mind. He confidently asked, “So hey! Are you coming with me or not?”
“I would have come, but I need to visit the City administration office to submit an application for a new water connection, I heard they brought some new scheme to give everyone a connection.”
“Why don’t I tag along then, it would be rather fun to do than you going alone?”
Heena thought hard for a moment or two. “Okay, and I’ll also treat you with an ice-cream at that new shop, you know, for the prank and all.”, Heena said with excitement. “Done!”, Santosh agreed.
The Red roses gave a glamorous contrast to the building’s white marble. It was a sight worth seeing.
Santosh and Heena reached the office swiftly. They inquired the guard about the directions. “The third hall to the right, that is where you need to go.”, the guard answered, pointing towards the hall with a sweet smile. They thanked and went there. Heena asked at the counter about the application process. The receptionist quickly explained her and even helped her out with the process. Santosh watched Heena with adoration as she did all the work.
Heena sighed as they walked out of the hall, “Now I wouldn’t have to worry about fresh water for Maa.” Santosh chuckled as he saw Heena exhausted,“ You know you are quite the hard-working girl for someone who gets tired of something so easy.”
“Like you would know, you were standing the whole time watching me do all the hard work.”
“Hey! I was watching out your back, as in, like a bodyguard.”
“As if I would ever need a wuss like you as a bodyguard.”
Heena and Santosh bickered as they got out of the building.
“Oh! So even sluts get to enter the village now that the village council has gone.”, a croaking voice filled with taunt, came towards the duo. Heena didn’t even try to look as to who said it, but Santosh became restless as soon as he heard that. He scanned the courtyard to find who said that. It was the voice of a young man who was looking at them with a ridiculing smirk. He wore an expensive suit with a few gold ornaments in his neck and fingers. He caressed his hair as he smoked his cigarette. Not only that, he was the complete definition of an elite spoiled brat.
Santosh glared at the boy with a killing intent.
“YEAH WHAT! You want a fight cute boy.”, the man spoke in a loud voice trying to intimidate Santosh.
“How dare you speak like that to Ms. Heena?”, Santosh said in an angry but faint tone. A dark aura covered Santosh as he tried to control his anger. “Leave him be, let's go.”, Heena said in a deep but quavering voice.
“Oh! How dare I speak, well I don’t need someone’s permission to call a slut a ‘SLUT’.”, the man spoke as he gibed at Santosh.
Santosh was taken aback with what he said. He couldn’t understand what the man was trying to say.
“What! She didn’t tell you. The whole village knows how big of a ‘Whores’ this mother-daughter pair is.”
“LET’S LEAVE, SANTOSH!”, Heena shrieked at Santosh as she wept.
As soon as Santosh saw her face, he lost himself. His face went emotionless as he stood in rage. His anger knew no bounds, he swiftly walked towards the man and without any hesitation punched him in his gut. Heena was stunned as the man coughed up blood. The man fell down on the ground, wounded and barely conscious.
