After several months, Arcanis felt that Naelina had learned all she could from him, the rest was up to her personal efforts. And the founder elder gave Naelina her final test.
The sorcerer summoned a powerful demon to fight against her. Naelina was nervous but also excited, as this was her chance to prove herself and test her new skills. The demon appeared in front of them, towering over Naelina with its massive body and sharp claws. Naelina summoned Shadow to fight alongside her, and the two of them charged forward to engage the demon in battle. The fight was intense and grueling. Naelina and Shadow fought with all their might. Using a spell she had learned she was able to increase Shadow's power. The demon fought back with its immense strength and powerful magic, but Naelina was able to hold her own as she demonstrated her skills in offensive and defensive magic. As the fight reached its climax, Naelina unleashed a powerful spell that she had been working on for weeks, "Demon evolve!" she said while sending a wave of energy to her familiar, then suddenly, Shadow grew bigger and more powerful, he was now as big as the enemy demon and overpowering it. Arcanis was impressed by Naelina's abilities and her willingness to learn. He congratulated her on passing the test and declared that she truly unlocked the full potential of Buzuur's inheritance. From that day forward, Naelina became a dark sorcerer.
The master gave his apprentice a book about the dark arts of Buzuur as a parting gift, and it was time for the trio to leave the temple and continue their journey. They said goodbye to elder Arcanis and promised to come back and visit him one day.
As the trio left the temple, they found themselves exploring a place filled with giant demon skeletons anchored in the sand. It was an area that elder Arcanis suggested they visit before continuing their journey. These bones were the remains of ancient demons that had perished long ago. The skeletons were massive and imposing, and the trio couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as they looked upon them.
As they were exploring, they noticed that one of the skeletons seemed to be different from the others. It was smaller in size and had a more delicate appearance. Naelina approached the skeleton and as she touched it, she felt a presence within it. She realized that the skeleton was not just a lifeless relic, but the prison of a demon spirit.
When some life forms die, their souls can linger in spirit form before passing. This spirit can be bound to an object which allows it to continue to be.
Naelina: "What's wrong? Why are you trapped here?"
Spirit: "I was cursed by a powerful sorcerer, lost my memories and was trapped in this skeleton for centuries. I've been unable to move on."
Naelina: "I'm sorry to hear that. I'll do what I can to help you."
Spirit: "Thank you, kind traveler. Your compassion is appreciated."
Naelina takes off her bracelet and holds it in her hand.
Naelina: "I'll use this spell to create a suitable home for you.
" She casts the spell and the bracelet becomes a soul container.
Spirit: "It's beautiful, thank you so much."
From that day forward, the spirit accompanied Naelina on their journey. It would speak to her, giving her advice and helping her with her magic. Zaruya was a bit jealous that Naelina had a powerful spirit companion and she didn't, but she was also happy for her friend and impressed by her abilities.
Continuing their journey they reached a tribe of hybrid-demons, from demon-elves to demon-beasts and demon-humans. Arcanis was on good terms with that tribe, so he told them the location so they could visit and buy new supplies for the journey ahead.
The tribe of hybrid-demons lived in houses made of bones and scrap metals. The houses were built using the bones of giant demons that once roamed the desert, and the scrap metals were scavenged from the ruins of ancient civilizations that once existed in the desert. The houses were tall and imposing, with sharp spires made of bones jutting out from the roofs. The walls were made of thick plates of metal, and the windows were narrow slits that allowed light to filter in. The doors were made of heavy metal bars that could be locked tight to keep out intruders. Inside the houses, the floors were made of packed sand, and the furniture was made of bones and metal. The tribe decorated the houses with trophies of their hunting expeditions and other items they scavenged from the desert.
They were greeted with suspicion at first, but as soon as they noticed Buzuur's aura on Naelina, they were welcomed with open arms. The tribe was a mix of different demon races, and it was fascinating for Zaruya and Naelina to see the different types of demons coexisting peacefully. They were especially fascinated by the demon-beasts, who were more aggressive and physically stronger than beast-elves, but not as agile as the latter. As for glasses, all biological humanoids looked the same.
The trio visited the market place, where they were able to buy new supplies. They also came across a blacksmith, who was able to enhance Zaruya's knife with dark magic by adding some composite material made from ancient demon bones and some metals.
As they were about to leave, they were introduced to the tribe leader.
Tribe leader: "Welcome to our tribe, travelers. I understand you have been sent by elder Arcanis?"
Zaruya: "Yes, we have. We are on a journey to explore the desert and learn about its secrets."
Tribe leader: "And you, little girl, you must be the famous princess Naelina."
Naelina: "Y-yes, that's me."
Tribe leader: "We have high expectations from you, princess, you who have been favored by the darkness since birth."
Naelina: "Euh...thank you."
Tribe leader: "I have prepared a map of the desert for you, which shows some important demonic landmarks that I suggest you visit. But be warned, the desert is a dangerous place. There are sand pirates, who will stop at nothing to steal from travelers. And there are other dangers too, like the giant sandworms and the deadly sandstorms."
Glasses: "We will be careful and take all necessary precautions, tribe leader."
Tribe leader: "I hope you find what you are looking for on your journey. May the spirits of the desert guide and protect you."
Zaruya: "Thank you, tribe leader. We will not forget your kindness."
Tribe leader: "It is my pleasure to help you. Safe journey, young ones."
With their new supplies and the map, the trio felt ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. They said their goodbyes and set off into the desert once again. They were eager to see what adventures awaited them in the farther reaches of the desert.
