Orpheus
“Okay!” Nia sighs loudly before sitting down and opening the folder. “Nia… Can you give me a break?” I mumble rolling my eyes. “Me? Give YOU a break? We’ve been at this since you turned 18. And I’ve been working my ass off trying to find you a wife?” She says seriously.
“So you keep telling me…” I mumble, looking out of the window.
I don’t even want a freaking arranged marriage. Or to be married at all honestly. And sleeping next to someone my grandma set me up with does not exactly sound ideal…?
“Here you go.” The waiter smiles and sets both of our coffees down. “You can choose the order of who you go on dates with first?” She says smiling as if it makes it better.
After a few seconds of flipping through the pages, I sit it down and stare up at her confused. “Nanna… What do you think I’m looking for?” I say slowly and she kicks me. “Don’t call me that we’re in public.” She whispers and I sigh.
“I don’t know…” She says, looking away. “You didn’t exactly tell me your type” I nod slightly, “So… You picked me a bunch of light skin girls with… Extremely big boobs?” I ask confused.
“Not all of them,” Nia says quickly and flips through the folder. “She’s darker?” She points and I scoff.
“None of them pique my interest.” She sighs dramatically and I take a sip of my coffee, once again not giving her the satisfaction of finding my
One. True. Love.
Sweet. Too sweet. I look at the cup confused, before sitting it down.“Is that not what you ordered? Do you want me to say something?” I wave my hand slightly. “Leave it. They’re understaffed” I motion to the sign.
She sighs and says, “Not even this one? She enjoys gardening. And babies. She wants three. And look how beautiful she is.” I look at the picture and shrug, “she’s not prettier than MariEtta.”
“You seriously need to stop comparing everyone to her? She’s your sister!” “Twin sister,” I interject and she sighs. “By the way… Why isn’t she here looking at a list of seven guys she has to go on dates with this week?” I ask although we both know the answer. She's late. Again.
“There she is,” Nia points, and the cafe’s bell chimes loudly as she walks over to our table. “Hey! What are we doing?” She asks, smiling, before sitting down next to me. “Do you even have to ask?”
“Let me see yours.” She sets her purse down and I hand her the folder.
She starts to flip through it and says, “You do know he isn’t into the whole dumb and submissive girlfriend thing right?”
“What?” Nia asks, confused.
“Gardening, singing, cooking?” MariEtta mumbles, flipping through the pages as she speaks, “Get a girl that likes to read? Someone who wants something other than a big family. Or someone who has passions?”
“That’s not the issue,” I say shrugging, and she looks up at me, “Oh? Is it the lack of testosterone?”
Nia scoffs before asking, “You like boys?”
“Mhm.” MariEtta takes a sip of my coffee and puts it down confused. “Why’s it swee-”
“Seriously?” She says slightly more annoyed. “We’ve been at this for how many months now and you don’t even like girls? We could've found you a husband by now!” She whisper yells staring at me.
“I didn’t say I don’t like girls at all? But… While you are at it I’m also polyamorous… So I’d rather have multiple partners?” She nods, “As in multiple husbands? I got it- I can get male suitors for you. And this time I want to know your type?”
“I think… I need to figure things out for myself…” I mumble and she shakes her head. “No. You need to meet someone before your birthday.”
“I will...” “Yeah- Orpheus will,” MariEtta says, shrugging. Nia stares at her confused, “And you too? Being queen doesn’t mean you can be single?” MariEtta rolls her eyes.
“You will need help. Both of you” She stares at MariEtta.
