Nova & Cole

"Class. Eyes up here." The teacher says sternly. "Now we don't usually get transfer students, especially in the middle of the school year... But we have two. So... Nova and Cole right?" They nod. "Why don't you introduce yourselves?" She sits on her desk.

"Well, I'm Cole. And this is my little sister Nova. We obviously... Aren't from around here? Or this side of the border at all-" "Your human?" The teacher asks quickly and Nova looks at her confused. "You're not?"

"What?" She stares at them for a few seconds in silence. "Both of you go to the office now." She says standing up and following them out of the door.

They follow her to the office in silence, only exchanging confused glances.

"Stay here." She says staring at them before walking away. "Do we call dad? Or-" "Already tried. My phone still isn't working either." Nova says annoyed.

"Nova and Cole? Why are you here?" They both look up confused. "We transferred schools?" Cole says confused. "Why are you on this side of the border?" He says clearing his throat.

"We moved." Nova says blankly.

"Call the police," he says seriously and their eyes widen. "Wait- what?" Cole says quickly. "What's your guardian's number?" "Uh? 267-4-" "Adress. What's their address?" He says, sighing.

"You didn't try to kill anyone, right?" Terrance asks confusedly, and they both shake their heads. The door opens and a man stares at them, "So... I'm supposed to ask are you human?" "We... Aren't sure." Terrace says hesitantly.

"Who even let them in?" They hear outside of the door and it opens and two people walk in. "And... You were able to get housing here?" He asks, confused. "Well yeah? I didn't think it was an issue?" Terrance says and moves his hair out of his face.

"Call the Bloodthorn's for the next action." He says seriously. "To meet in person? I-" "Three humans got past our guards. This could mean war."

Terrance sighs and Nova mumbles, "We told you these people were supernatural? It's common knowledge?" "Shush human." They say loudly and they all look up confused.

Orpheus walks into the room first with an annoyed expression, and his eyes quickly light up as he sees Terrance. "Oh? You're the guy from before? Did you find your mom?" Terrance shakes his head and a man clears his throat.

"What's the issue here?" He asks seriously. "These three immigrated here from the other side of the border." A woman says, staring at them. "Human?" He asks, confused. "Of course, they're human, Tefari? Do you think you'd be here if they weren't human?" She says, annoyed and the other two men stare at her with wide eyes. "Watch your tone..."

"It's fine..." Tefari waves his hand and walks closer to them. "You should keep your distance your majesty!" A man says quickly. "They can't hurt me? I'll just heal again..." He mumbles, staring at Terrance.

"Permission for next action?" The woman asks and Tefari shakes his head. "No..." "I want them to get physicals. With blood tests. And to be tested for ancestry." The younger one says quickly and Tefari glances back at him smiling. "You took the words right out of my mouth, Attam."

He looks up at them, "You heard him. Get an elf." Tefari says and they all quickly leave. "Please! I meant to say please." He yells after them and sighs. "That doesn't mean needles right?" Nova asks, confused.

"Our guards have never let humans in before..." Orpheus says confused. "Well, it's not like they asked us. They just open the door. Didn't even ask our names...?" Terrance replies and they all look at him confused.

"These two. What is their relation to you?" Tefari asks, confused. "They're my kids...?" Terrance says confused. "Oh...? You have kids." Orpheus mumbles. "But you look so young?" The girl says confused.

"Yeah... I adopted them." "But you're identical. Well... Except for this one." Attam says pointing at Nova. "Well, I can say the same for you," Nova says blankly. Attam stares at her for a few seconds and smiles, "Even if she's human can we keep her?" He asks, staring at his dad and Tefari rolls his eyes trying not to laugh.

"But I'm the weird one?" The girl asks, confused. "But...? How do you look so much alike?" Tefari asks, confused. "Biologically... They are my siblings. But I raised them since my parents couldn't... And adopted them." Terrance answers.

"Oh? They're your siblings..." Orpheus says, smiling and Terrance stares at him. "No. They're my kids." "I didn't mean it like th-" The door opens and closes.

"No one cuffed them?" A woman asks confused. "No need," Orpheus says quickly and she pauses. "Okay... One by one." They all glance at each other and Cole gets up. She lightly taps Cole's forehead and Cole looks at her confused and a folder appears in her hand. "How'd you do that?" She asks quickly.

"Well, she definitely isn't human." The lady says motioning Nova over. "I didn't think they were..." Tefari mumbles. Nova looks at her slightly confused. And she walks over to Nova and taps her forehead. She opens the other folder and nods before tapping Terrance's.

She pauses and looks at them. "I get they were on the other side of the border... But who said they were human? For people who've lived there, they don't even smell like them at all?" She says confused.

"Wait? Humans have a different smell?" Nova asks, confused. "Yeah... It's how they identify who to let past the border." MariEtta says, sighing. "I bet they wouldn't let you pass," Attam says smiling and she kicks him.

"So... If we're not human... What are we" Terrance says slowly and she looks at him confused. "Read aloud." She says, staring at the folder.

"Cole Hamps. Age 15. Species. Native Naiad and Dark Elf hybrid."

"See? They're not human?" She shrugs. "A native naiad and a dark elf? What does that even mean." Terrance asks confused and she stares at them visibly confused.

"They thought they were human too.." Attam mumbles.

"Oh... Okay. Naiads are water nymphs... They're known for being insanely attractive, and having a fondness for whichever their nymph element would be... In your case water. And in Nova's water and fertility. And they can essentially control water and heal all living things with it." They all three look at each other and back at her.

"And Elves... Dark elves have endless possibilities of abilities that are manipulated by will. They are known for being one of the most populated and powerful species. And Light elves have a limited amount of abilities since their power source is limited."

"Do they get like... Retractable wings? Like on... What's it called... Tinkerbell?" Cole asks, confused. "Tinkerbell's a fairy. They aren't like that in real life." Attam says bluntly. "Oh..."

"So we can leave... Right?" Nova asks, confused. "Yeah, you can go-" Tefari smiles. They all start walking away and Orpheus quickly looks up, "Wait? What's your name?"

Terrance looks back at him and smiles, "I'll tell you next time. Just... Don't ask that... Lady." Terrance shuts the door.

"Well someone's swooning?" Attam nudges him.

"Shut up..."
