Havir looked at the slimy, undefined food on the dirty plate that the host had presented to him as the house specialty. If this was the best he had to offer, then he didn't even want to see the normal food. Shaking with disgust, he placed the tray on the table in their room.
"Here you can have it, Havir the Magnificent is going to eat, this is beneath him." with that he left the stunned Phoenice.
POV Phoenice:
The voices of her sisters came to her. They were, like a swarm of bees, always speaking in unison.
"We were worried about you."
"I know, but I'm not far away now." Longingly, she looked up at the sky.
"Your time is running out." the sisters warned.
"Only two more moons and I'll be back." She breathed into the sky.
She hated to admit it, but she missed her sisters and the carefree life she had led. Free of fear and worry or suspicion. When Phoenice had descended to join her sister Mariken had had no idea what the human world was really like, she had to realize that now. Had people always behaved this way and had she simply closed her eyes to it, or was this greed and cruelty new? As for Havir, the complete idiot, she was pretty sure that he had been a self-absorbed egotist from the day he was born.
Where had he gone, anyway? And was what was on the table in front of her really edible? And what was it? Indecisively, she poked around in the green porridge until, after smelling it, she decided it was better to keep her stomach and go to bed hungry.
