I make it to Blue Ink in under two seconds. Yes, I actually time myself on these things, because I want to see improvements in my speed. As you may have guessed, I do in fact have superpowers. Super speed is the most important one in my arsenal of abilities. How I obtain this power is an interesting story, so I will start from the beginning.
You see, I am a Holy Knight in training. The Holy Knights are Gaia’s oldest heroes to ever exist that are still alive today. They first made their appearance over five million years ago. Obviously, all of the members are Celestials explaining how they are all long-lived.
After being over a million years old, the originals finally decided to take on disciples. Just in case any of them had the grand idea to retire one day. That’s where someone like me comes in. I, alongside other children, was picked to be the new generation of Holy Knights. All it took was years of brutal training and some questionable science experiment and I had inherited Frankies holy powers.
That being a power called the Ultimate Force, which grants me super speed, allows me to create constructs with light and the ability to heal from injuries. It’s a pretty useful ability to have for an adventurer/young knight like me. I also inherited the natural abilities of a Draconian Celestial like super strength and flight. But compared to a real Celestial, I might as well be a normal human.
Anyways, I was able to get back to work in under twenty seconds before twelve thirty-one. I stop at the front entrance of Blue Ink, the company I work for. Technically I work for the Millennium Guild, Blue Ink is just a subsidiary company of Millennium. Frankie was allowed to start the company because he’s been with the company for millions of years as well as his Holy Knight status.
You may think why would a prestigious Holy Knight continue to work at a blue-collar job? Well, because Frankie is not the kind of guy who cares about titles and status. That is not to say he doesn’t take his role seriously, he just rather does things that actually help people. Or so he tells me.
I enter the air-conditioned building with a few seconds to spare. Most of the other employees are out on other jobs, there are only three of us left, four if you count Frankie.
Frankie was sitting behind his desk eating a sandwich, going by the number of wrappers in the trash bin next to his desk, this is his eighth sandwich. It’s one of the many “benefits” of having the Ultimate Force, we have to consume so much food because our bodies burn through it faster than most people in our species.
“I came here right on time,” I say as I sat down on the couch, right between Nick and Gwen.
Nick is the other Holy Knight disciple who works for Blue Ink. Like me and all of the others, Nick had Frankie’s dragon DNA infused into him when he was just a baby. He must’ve gotten a lot more of it because his hair is blue like Frankie's while mine remains black.
Gwen is my cousin that lives next door to me. We both are part of the Willam family, another prestigious family of monster hunters and legendary heroes.
Frankie looks up from his sandwich at his computer screen.
“Cutting it a little close, Yugi.”
“Yeah, Daisy wanted to go somewhere else because Locos Tacos ended up being a disaster.”
“Why would you even take someone like Daisy to a fucking Locos Taco?” Gwen says in an unnecessarily aggressive tone.
“I wanted her to experience something different than what she’s used to. There’s nothing wrong with that?”
“I don’t know Yugi,” Nick began. “If I took someone of Daisy stature to Loco’s Tacos, I'd be so embarrassed, I'd dipped out of there.”
“You guys are just exaggerated. She didn’t hate it until some weird guy farted passed us.”
Nick's face distorts and he lets out a groan.
“I am amazed that Daisy is even dating you. What did you do, use your Infinity to alter reality?” Gwen shakes her head.
“Why would you think that I did something nefarious?”
“To be fair to Gwen,” Frankie interjects. “All of your past lives were some of the worst degenerates I have ever met.”
Frankie throws away the wrapper his sandwich was in into the trash.
“I am not them. Besides, I was not the one who pursued the relationship. Daisy asked me out.”
“Yeah, and I am the king of Francia,” Nick says jokingly.
I don’t care if they believe me, because it is the truth. I was surprised when she asked to start dating me a few weeks ago. For the longest time, I thought Daisy hated me. For starters, I am one of the Chosen Children, a nickname people call the Holy Knight disciples, while Daisy’s aunt is a member of the Holy Knights. Secondly, I have obtained a crest from the gods. The others obtained one too four years ago, but for some reason only I was the target of her jealousy.
That’s all in the past now, but I would like to ask her why she had a change of heart.
“Alright, I want you kids to go grab some jobs from the board. It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any more customers this afternoon.” Frankie says as he checks the fancy-looking watch he wears on his wrist.
I was about to get up from the couch and head to the main building when the door chimed open. A tall lady, standing almost seven feet with blue hair tied up in a ponytail came into the building. She was wearing khaki shorts and a plain white shirt covered in sweat.
“Are you guys taking in customers?” She asks in a valley-girl accent.
I’m surprised she didn’t ask, “Are you guys Blue Ink?” like so many people seem to ask for some reason. That tells me that she is not from Utopia.
“Depends on what you want,” Frankie says.
She scratches her arm nervously. “Uh, it’s a long explanation.”
“Then why don’t you take a seat?” Frankie indicates to one of the empty chairs that sit in front of his desk.
“Right.” the tall woman nodded and took the chair on the right.
“I’m Barbara Crown and I really need your help.”
