Nanno
William looked annoyed.
He sat in Nanno's small apartment and sulked. Nanno looked at him nervously. Apparently, he and the girls had not succeeded in luring the humans into the water. And he didn't like that. He was hungry.
"They were able to free themselves from the spell!", he snorted. "They must have known we were nearby. They weren’t surprised!"
"It's no secret that we live here", Nanno murmured.
"That we live in this river, yes. That our city is right under their small camp? That we’re right here? No! They can't know that. There was a woman with them. She looked very tasty!"
Nanno grimaced. "Do you want some dried fish?"
"Yes", his friend snorted. "And then there was Wilma..."
"Wilma?" Nanno handed his friend some of the fish, which he stored in a small cupboard made of ice and wood. "Linea said she didn't have time."
"She had time. And hunger! She said all the time that she and her child will eat the humans alone. That we should not dare to eat her food. And Elsa tried to kiss me!"
"Oh?" Elsa was a year older than William and had already decided at the age of five that she wanted to start a family with him. But William didn't like the siren with dark green hair and black eyes.
"How did this come about?" Nanno grinned.
"She said she wanted to cheer me up! And then... I had to push her away from me."
"Oh." Nanno grimaced. "Well, she likes you a lot. But... Maybe that's going a little too far. Did you talk with her about it?"
"No. She swam away offended. She surprised me with that. And she just wanted to kiss my cheek, but I don't want a kiss from her. I want a kiss from Linnea." He sighed. "But unfortunately, Linnea doesn't try to comfort me with a kiss. I wouldn't have pushed her away. How was work?"
"Boring and monotonous." Nanno shrugged his shoulders. The fact that Linnea didn't want him still frustrated him. William knew nothing about the little discovery exercise in Nanno's bed. And he certainly wouldn't tell him about it. William quickly became jealous.
"Would you like to go hunting with me later? Fish? Or... Maybe we'll catch something else? A frog? Or a willow-o-wisp?" William licked his lips. "I haven't eaten these in a long time."
Nanno thought of the stranger and the little light. "No. I have plans for later."
"And what?"
"Secret." He didn't want to tell his friend that he had warned the humans. Because of him, William had swum back hungry.
William let his gaze wander through Nanno's sparsely furnished apartment. "You need more furniture", he murmured.
"I only recently moved in. I’m not that fast. And I like it."
Some sirens made furniture out of driftwood or ice, which constantly formed in the cave and had to be removed. So that it did not endanger their city.
"If you're sure..." William rolled his eyes. "How are your parents?"
"They enjoy having their apartment to themselves."
"Are you still in contact with the sirens you were with?"
Nanno grinned. "With a few of them. They visited a few days ago."
"Does your secret plan have anything to do with it?" William raised his eyebrows.
"No." Nanno grinned. "Forget it. My plan remains secret!"
"Don't say. " Now William grinned broadly and gave Nanno a friendly push. " You have found a siren that you like? Who is it? Elena? Candela? Carlos? Miguel? Iker? Or any of your recent bedfellows?"
Nanno grimaced. "Elena has a boyfriend, Candela is only into women, and Carlos has a yellow tail fin. I don't like yellow."
"And what about Iker and Miguel?" William crossed his arms. "You used to meet with them a lot."
"And both only like girls. And as you probably haven't missed, I'm not one!"
"So a bedfellow?"
Nanno groaned. "And you? When are you going to ask Linnea if she's going out with you?" She didn't want me...
"Nice try!" William stuck out his tongue. "So?"
"Nobody." But again, he remembered the delicious, no, good-looking human. Nanno decided to swim to the surface again at night.
