Coloration for these crabs can vary from olive-yellow, brownish orange, reddish brown, and dark brown on the upper carapace to blend into the environment with brighter colors, including red and creamy yellow white, displayed on the underside. They live in the coastal kelp forests and low intertidal zones from Baja up to Southern Alaska. Their diet is seasonal containing vegetation during the spring/summer/fall and carnivorous during the winter when kelp and algae are less available.
