Levi’s P.O.V

After lunch, someone decided playing games at an arcade was a good idea. By someone, I mean Jace, and by good, I mean terrible. It always ends one of two ways, Jace winning, and we never get to hear of it or Jace losing, and we never get to hear the end of it. Basically, it is a lose-lose situation. Leo and I decided to play air hockey, my favourite game, since it was the only one I was decent at playing. While the two walking disasters were competing at basketball. It was stupid on Jace’s part because Alex was so much taller than him, so we know how this one will just hope they don’t make it a big deal.

Alex has always been a nonchalant type of guy. It took us a while for him to open up. He had a difficult time at home, so he mostly kept to himself. When we first met in pre-school, Jace wanted to play with Lex’s toy car, a huge mistake we learned the hard way. You do not mess with his toy cars, but Jace being well Jace, he did not take no for an answer. Long story short took us a year to get on Alex’s good side. Leo came into the picture a few days after our incident with Lex. He was so confident and cocky since day one. I remember he walked into the classroom with his tiny overalls and yellow hat like he owned the place.

I chuckle at the memory. Leo got close to Alex super-quick. They hit it off quickly. They’ve been inseparable since we are all pretty close, but Alex and Leo share a special bond with each other. As Meredith Grey said, he’s his person.

“What’s got you smiling like this?” Leo asked, returning the puck to me, and I barely managed to keep it out of my goal.

I look up at him and laugh. “Nothing. Just thinking about your first day at preschool.” I tried to keep my laugh in, but it was challenging.

Leo stopped dead in his tracks and glared at me. “Don’t you dare bring it up, you asshole. That was an unfortunate time in my little life. I can’t believe Linda dared to send me out like that.” He shivered at the memory, and I completely lost it as I fell to the floor, unable to hold my laughter.

“But you looked so adorable, and I sincerely believed you were a cartoon character,” I said as I attempted to get off the floor. He ignored me, sending the puck flying my way. Unfortunately, I failed to catch it in time as it went right into the goal ending the game.

“Damn it. I was not ready for that one. I got distracted by the memory of Bob, the builder walking into the classroom.” I looked at Leo with a pout.

“Stop sulking and making excuses, and this is what you get, so accept it.” He comes closer to me and puts me in a headlock. “Bob the builder, huh?” he ruffles my hair as I try to get out of his grasp but fail.

“Okay, okay. I give up. I’m sorry, you are the most handsome man in the world.” I beg, Leo’s grasp loosens up a bit, and I manage to escape.

“Now that’s better, thank you.” He smirked. What an asshole.

Seconds later, I spot Jace and Lex walking back to us. Leo and I took one look at them and immediately knew what had happened.

“Guess we’re going for ice cream after, huh? Damn, I wanted to go home.” Leo complained.

“Yup, unless you want to listen to him whine for the rest of the week, we got no other choice. Anyway, they’re here. So get your game face on. It’s show time.” I turned to Jace and placed my hand on his shoulder.

“Hey buddy, I’m craving ice cream. Let’s go to that sundae place you love so much.” I distract Jace pulling him out of the arcade.

“But-”

“No buts, we’re going.” Leo interrupted him, and thankfully he listened. Crisis avoided, for now. I face Leo, and we fist bump in victory.

We stay at the sundae shop for a while, discussing anything but the arcade, which Jace seems to have forgotten. After Amari came to pick up Jace, they also decided to drop me off at home. We bid Leo and Alex goodbye and promise to meet up soon.

“So, how was your day? Did you have fun?” Amari asked, driving out of the parking lot.

“It was fun, and we had lunch then, went to the arcade and, afterwards, had a sundae,” Jace replied, jumping up and down in his seat.

“Oh, the arcade, how fun. What did you guys d-”

“Waaaaaaaa, Ahm.” I interrupted. Amari looked at me in the rearview mirror questioningly, and I gave him a look that he immediately understood.

“What’s wrong, Le? Why did you yell?” Jace questioned, looking back at me.

“Sorry, I thought I saw a spider, ahah. It turns out it was just a lint.” I lied.

Now let’s change the subject. “So! I heard you guys are moving together. Congratulations.”

“Thank you, I am very excited to live with my Bambi. I can’t wait to wake up next to you every morning.” Amari takes Jace’s hand and kisses it. How disgustingly sweet.

“We for me, I can’t wait to ride you every morning,” Jace smirked, giving him a wink.

“Nope, nope. Stop the car, get me the fuck out of here.” I tell them as I hold my hand against my ears, hoping to block what I have already heard. But, seriously, what was I thinking about getting in a car with these horny idiots? They laugh at me, ignoring my pleas to be released, and finally, we get to my place, and I get out of that hell.

“Byeee, I love you. I’ll come over in the morning to check on you.” Jace yells from the car.

“Please don’t. I’m fine, Jace. You don’t need to keep an eye on me every day. I’ll see you guys later. Bye.” I wave goodbye to them, and I enter my building.

After coming home and washing up, I sit on my couch exhausted; every day with Jace is exhausting. So Kayden is moving closer to his University. I wonder where he is going, I told the guys that I didn’t want to know anything about him, so when Amari is around, he knows not to bring anything personal about Kayden. At first, they avoided the name altogether, which I was thankful for, but it seemed impractical. My chest hurt as I try and hold back my tears, feeling the lump at the back of my throat. I miss him, I miss him a lot, and I can’t seem to stop. But I am determined to move on, and I will move on… one day. I sigh, not wanting to think anymore. I grab my laptop off the table, turn it on and get back into writing.

I raised my hand to Kayden’s dimple; I wanted to poke it. You see, I have a thing for dimples. When I see one, I must poke it.

“BunBun, what are you trying to do?” Kayden smiled.

“I truly want to poke your dimple. It’s calling out to me, ‘Levi, poke me; I'm right here’.” I answered honestly. Kayden laughed, which caused his head to tilt backwards slightly, his adam’s apple poking out, his neck muscles stretching, causing me to gulp.

“Okay then, since you were honest and you claim my dimple is calling you-”

“It really is,” I add.

“Go ahead,” Kayden offers me his cheek, smiling, his dimples sinking in deeply. My hand inches closer and closer until it reaches his beautifully smooth skin, and I poke the dimple, taking this opportunity to caress his cheek softly as I do so.

“Happy now?” Kayden asked.

“Very,” I answered breathlessly, my voice barely coming up above a whisper, keeping my hand on his cheek for a bit longer, hoping he wouldn’t notice. How can one person make me feel so many emotions? It’s scary but exciting as well. I brought my hands down to my lab and played with my fingers.

Looking out the window as we enjoyed the silence between us, it wasn’t awkward anymore, just comforting. Feeling too relaxed, I unconsciously hum a song in my head.

“What you humming over there?” Kayden spoke.

“Oh, sorry, didn’t realise I was doing it out loud. I was humming dandelions by Ruth B.” I answered, blushing.

“I love that song. Sing it for me?” Kayden glanced at me.

“What? No, no, I can’t.”

“You can’t? What do you mean? I heard you hum, and you sounded amazing. Please, Bunny, for me. Pretty please.” He poked his lips out, pouting.

Oh, you have got to be kidding me. Don’t fall for it, Levi. Just don’t look at him, and you’ll be fine. Look ahead, do not look at him.

To my dismay, I was so aware of him that I could not keep my eyes away from him for long, and I peeked… his lips were still pouty, and the stretch of his facial muscles caused his deep dimples to make an appearance. But, oh my god, how can I say no to him? It would be a crime…

“Okay, fine, but just this once.” I gave in, took a deep breath, closed my eyes and started singing.

My heart hammered in my chest as I waited for his response. Finally, I felt the car stop and opened my eyes to see what was happening. Before I could register anything, Kayden's grabbed my face with both hands turning me towards him. My eyes cast down, avoiding any eye contact. The nerves were getting the better of me. Could it be any more obvious that I like him?

“BunBun, look at me? Please?” his voice was gentle.

My eyes finally met his and seeing the smile on his face woke up the butterflies in my stomach. His eyes glistened in the dark, and I swear I could see the whole universe in them.

“Levi, that was beautiful. Your voice is amazing. You are amazing.” his words brought joy to my frantic heart. I blushed deeply, which caused him to start caressing my cheeks ever so softly.

“Just for this, I’m definitely buying you dinner.” He took his hands away, putting them back on the steering wheel.

My cheeks felt cold and lonely at losing his warm skin against mine. I stay quiet for the rest of the drive. Then, smiling, I brought my hands to my face, secretly touching where his hands were. Did this mean something? You wouldn’t touch someone you’re not interested in like this, right? My heart picks up at the thought of Kayden liking me. Can I? Can I have hope?
