It's so much better for you just to wash your damn hands, not with antimicrobial/antibacterial soap of course.
It's really bad for you to use antimicrobials when you don't work in a hospital, laboratory or clinical setting.
Definitely do not use Anti bacterial Hand sanitizer as a substitute for washing your hands. It's really bad to frequently use it and over use it, as many of them are alcohol based it's really bad for your skin.
(oh yes and do NOT drink it, it'll probably kill you)
I'm actually going to be doing a paper on this for one of my classes this semester.
If you're interesting in reading about microbes and their importance, read "Missing Microbes" and another interesting thing to read about that's also in line with this sort of thing is The Hygiene Hypothesis.
