Magic Particles

Magic Particles

Mar 07, 2023

After four years–

Everything till now is going fairly well, but in the past few days Mable was returning home late and sometimes she didn't even sleep the whole night. She always pretends that everything is fine when I am close but I noticed that she was tense for some reason. I think it's because of the cathedral event that's closing.

I haven't gotten any leads in using magic but I noticed the fact that whenever I get hurt the strange white particles enter my body and my healing time is reduced to almost nothing. This time I used a small knife to cut my finger, so that these white particles try to heal it while I learn to control them.

"Hey! You've got a deep cut on your finger!" I opened my eyes and hid the knife as fast as I could and saw Ambra. She lives here with us. She tries her best to hide her age but it's easy to say that she's around 17 but she acts like some mature person although at times she's a bit annoying.
"Wait till I tell my aunt about this. This is the seventh time in this week that you got hurt."

"Please don't tell Mable about this, it was only an accident. If you tell her about this then I will tell her that you have a cat in your bedroom.", I always make her quiet by saying this.

Mable doesn't allow us to keep pets especially cats because of some universal reason like she says it. But Ambra was always fond of cats and her cat is almost like her twin. They share the same green eyes and the cat is of pure black colour just like Ambra's hair.

"Arg!" She got up and walked away after showing me her tongue.

Anyways, I need to learn magic so that I can do something productive in this world. I learned the magic system of this place. It's called the Rainbow System and the process involved in it is known as Prismatic conditions. The mana core of a mage is also the sternum but the mage's level is exposed outside. The level of a mage can be judged by sensing an invisible shell cover covering the mage. It starts from red followed by orange, yellow, green, blue, Indigo and ends at violet. The strongest mage of course being violet shelled.

Although not everyone is blessed with magic power in this world, of course almost everyone is born with a body that could form a magic core but not everyone has the ability to develop it to use magic. The probability of being born as such a genius is one in one hundred. And out of those lucky mages ,most are green shelled or below. Only about ten percent are above the green shell. But the high level mage's can even fake their shell colour to hide their power.

The mage's level can be seen by upper level mage but the lower levelled mage cannot see the upper level mage's shell colour.

The process of evolution is described to be so painful that one can even die because of it. It is like a butterfly's life cycle. When a mage is close to evolution, the shell starts breaking apart and shatters. The mana core then is showered with more mana and until the next colour shell covers the body. The colour of their shell usually only determines their level and not their affinity to an element.

The mages usually are affiliated to only one or two elements found in Nature. All things that could be considered natural are deemed as elements like fire, water lighting and so on,but once a mage chooses his path on a certain element they won't have another chance to pursue other elements .

But ,there are some mages in the world who have unique magic traits that cannot be considered natural. This kind of magic is known as ' Queer ' ; one of which being Ambra. She can use small illusionary magic even though she's only a red shelled mage. No wonder she seems suspicious but Mable trusts her so I have to as well.

The most interesting thing is that after reaching yellow stage, one can go for adventures or gates which are very unpredictable and dangerous.

That's something I would like, I thought with excitement glimmering in my eyes

The mana particles are in the atmosphere which can be freely collected and be stored in the core. The Golden particles are what they call Elemented Particles which act as a fuel to magic , although nothing much is mentioned about the white particles.

" Hmmm, according to these books, these mana particles can only be sensed, that too only by prominent mages as for the other's they act naturally, yet I'm able to see and sense both the mana particles, why?" I was lost in deep thought, the more i try to find answers, the more questions is all i end up with.

"Hey Saul, Can't you hear me, huh?!" Ambra screeched like a parrot on steroids, interrupting my train of thought.

"If I can't hear you, it's because I'm enjoying the sweet sound of silence!" I retorted, feeling my blood boil.

"Whoa, simmer down there, big guy. You're becoming a real grumpus! It wouldn't hurt to lend an ear, or else..." Ambra threatened, but before she could finish, there was a knock on the door.

Thank God! Mable returned home. I'm saved. May God Aurora bless you Mable.

"Where's my little Saul baby!" Mable exclaimed as she tackled me with a hug.

"I'm not a baby, Mable!" I protested, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"You'll always be my baby! Look at those chubby cheeks!" Mable cooed, pinching my cheeks.

"Ugh, spare me the mushy stuff. He looks more like a pale rat," Ambra chimed in with a smirk.

"Excuse me?!" I exclaimed, feeling a bit hurt.

"Do you really think he looks like a rat?" Mable asked Ambra with a stern expression.

Ambra's face turned as red as a tomato. "Well, maybe just a teeny tiny bit handsome..." she muttered before scampering off to her room.

******

" I don't wanna eat broccoli now!" I protested.

"Don't you wanna grow up! Now shut up and eat" It's just Mable showing her motherhood. Ugh! Why don't they know that I'm bigger than I look?

I think I need to learn to swallow these vegetables, so that I can get some library time after dinner.

I entered the place I love, the 'Library'. This place has it all, everything I need. Recently I laid my hands on a story about the world tree, the place which holds Elysian, but couldn't read it until now because of 'personal problems'.

World Tree's existence dates back to the creation of Elysian, which no one is sure of, not even the Celestials. The World Tree is said to have watched over Elysian since its creation. It holds all information about Elysian but is limited to a select few. It is located in the capital city of Elysian, Nevaeh.

"Nevaeh, huh!" I sighed. I can never forget this name. It's the largest city, or to be more precise, the largest kingdom in Elysian. All the significant events in Solis' life started and ended there.

Elysian isn't just a single world divided into many countries like Earth. Its capital city, Nevaeh, is located in the center surrounded by water, with a natural bridge connecting it to the other side of the shore. The water body is then surrounded by four kingdoms comprising many villages and towns.

The Northern Kingdom, Karden Forest - home of the dark elves; the Western Kingdom, Ariel - also known as the kingdom of humans; the Eastern Kingdom of dwarves - Bildon. The Southern part of Elysian- Netherwood, isn't owned by any of the races; it holds the largest part of Elysian, and almost only thirty percent of the land has been discovered. Therefore, the adventurer guild has jurisdiction over the place.

The book I just read is definitely an exaggerated World Tree-obsessed book. I would rather read a romantic novel. It's really confusing to choose a book I can read here. Most of them are old stories related to Elysian. People are so obsessed with history in this era. Was this the reason for the neglect of modern development in the future?

Knock, knock! The sound of Mable's voice interrupted my peaceful reading session, and I realised that I had been lost in my book for hours. "Saul! Come here right now. Books will eat you someday," she called out to me in her usual playful tone.

"Coming!" I shouted back, quickly making my way down the stairs. As I reached the bottom, I was greeted with a sweet surprise from Mable and Ambra. "Happy Birthday!" they exclaimed in unison, and my heart felt warm with joy.

I couldn't believe that it was already the last day of the year. "Thank you both so much," I said, giving them both a tight hug. I noticed a small cake made from bread on the table, and it made me feel so grateful.

As I looked back on the past eight years since I had been reincarnated in Elysian, I felt overwhelmed with emotions. "Hmm, aren't you happy, Saul?" Mable asked me with a huge grin on her face.

"Mhmm, I'm really happy. Thank you, Mable, for taking care of me all these years," I said with a big smile.

"Hey, where's my thanks!" Ambra pouted, but then quickly handed me a small packet. Inside, I found a wooden sword that was just the right size for me. "I saw you practising with a branch, so I got this for you," Mable explained with a chuckle.

"And here's my present," Ambra said, handing me another packet. I opened it to find a book titled 'Starlight Hero' "Since you like reading so much, I asked around and found this book for you," she said with a grin.

I couldn't believe my eyes. This book was even mentioned in the novel. "Thank you so much, Ambra!" I exclaimed with excitement.

After cutting the cake and thanking them both again, Ambra announced that she was off to bed. "Goodnight everyone!" she said, giving us a wave before leaving the room.

"It's getting late, you should get some rest too," Mable said to me as she started to clean up the dishes.

"Thank you, Mable," I whispered, overwhelmed with gratitude. She had always gone above and beyond to care for me, teaching me the basic skills I needed to survive in this strange new world. Despite her best efforts, we were never able to find Alice and Eddy. Even after we had travelled to the village on a quest for information, we had discovered that the house was empty.

But Mable never gave up on me. She had taken me under her wing and treated me like her own. Her unwavering love and support had helped me navigate the challenges of this new life, and I knew that I would forever be in her debt.

*********

"Ah, the magnificent sun has finally made its appearance!" I exclaimed as I stretched my arm towards the sky, basking in the beauty of the sunrise.

Last night, I struggled to fall asleep, so I decided to rise early and venture up the mountain with my trusty wooden sword. Although I frequented this location often, it was rare for me to arrive at such an early hour.

Despite my lack of progress in mastering magic, I refused to waste my time simply reading books. Instead, I focused on honing my physical strength, endurance, and stamina. In my past life, I was often considered a "nerd," but thanks to the Kendo teachings of Ishida, I was in tip-top shape. Plus, my previous knowledge made it easy to understand what I needed to do with the wooden sword.

Admittedly, the sword was a tad light for my eight-year-old body, but it was perfect for my training purposes. As I meditated, I concentrated on the mana particles surrounding me, allowing me to enhance my movements and make my swings more impactful.

"Merely swinging my sword in the air isn't getting me anywhere. Perhaps I should try hitting the trees instead?" I pondered, hesitating at the thought of damaging my wooden sword. "But if I don't challenge myself, how will I ever improve? And what if I'm unable to use magic? I need to get physically stronger and better with my sword."

I need to learn how to use these particles while moving, I won't always have the luxury to meditate every time.

After taking a deep breath, I refocused my attention on the particles, and slowly they began to materialise around me once more. However, the moment I swung my sword, they vanished. Frustrated but undeterred, I persisted in my efforts until I finally succeeded.

As I walked around, I kept my focus on the particles, practicing manipulating them while swinging my sword. Excitement pulsed through me when I realized I could coat my sword with the particles, enhancing its impact.

With newfound confidence, I struck the tree, feeling the initial lack of impact. But I refused to give up, and with every strike, I could see myself improving. As I manipulated even more mana particles, I unleashed a forceful blow, slicing the tree in half.

Breathless and overwhelmed with pride, I marveled at the power of the particles and wondered how else I could manipulate them.

Glancing at the sun's position, I realized it was already noon, and it was time for me to make my way back to the church. As I packed up my things, I took one last look at the fallen tree and pondered which book I would read next, perhaps the one Ambra had given me.
