They drove over to her house which was a 15-minute drive. Rosalind was tired and hungry, and she needed something to eat before bed but didn’t have any energy to cook anything. Lt. Anderson was sitting in the car wondering, what was going on in Rosalind’s head. She was sighing which probably wasn’t a good sign.
“Are you okay?” He asked sounding worried.
“I’m tired, I’m hungry, and I don’t have any energy to cook,” Rosalind replied with more information than she ever wanted to give out but being this tired relaxed her inhibitions.
“Do you want me to make you something?”
“I should say no, but why not. At this point I might die…” ‘Either way,’ she thought.
“Let’s go in.”
Rosalind sluggishly hopped out of the car and sauntered to her house, letting them both in.
“Make whatever you want,” she said while pointing at the kitchen.
She left her bag near the entrance, proceeded to turn on the lights in every room, and then returned to the living room which was across from the kitchen to have a seat on the couch. The sound of Lt. Anderson’s cooking was putting her to sleep, but he was done as her eye lids were getting too heavy to keep open. He made her a simple pasta dish, which tasted good. She ate it pretty quickly at the dining table, and then set her head down in an odd attempt at going to sleep.
“Rosalind. Rosalind.” Lt. Anderson called her name while pushing on her shoulder to shake her awake.
“What?” Rosalind woke up with slightly more faculties.
“You should sleep in your bed.”
“Yeah. Thanks for feeding me,” she said while getting up from her seat at her dinner table. Then she stood up pushing the chair back and leaving behind the dishes. Her groggy mind wanted to show Lt. Anderson some appreciation, so she hugged him, that despite it being five or so minutes long when she finally released him, she had immediately forgotten all about it. Instead, she focused on getting to bed, forgetting all about Lt. Anderson.
The next morning, she awoke mentally refreshed, but physically exhausted. When she left her home to head to her office, she realized that she couldn’t remember what happened after sitting on her couch. But since Lt. Anderson wasn’t there and his truck wasn’t outside the house, she figured he went home after she went to sleep.
Rosalind’s weekend was a blur as all she did was stare at her computer screen Saturday and half of Sunday. She had just finished the report on Lt. Anderson and gleefully sent it off to Major Green, she was joyous and excited to do something unrelated to work, since arriving on Reef 6. As she was heading home on the shuttle, she thought about what she could do that would help her relax for the rest of her Sunday. A movie was the first activity that popped into her mind. And she smiled to herself thinking about what she might end up watching. Usually, she enjoyed action movies, but at the moment she was craving a lighthearted rom-com because it would take her away mentally from all the bad things she’s experienced and have since turned into recursive memories.
Once home she freshened up and changed into more casual clothing and headed out to purchase the perfect movie dinner complete with popcorn and candy at the store. Once at the store she headed straight for the candy aisle. It was fully stocked with all the popular chocolate, gummy, and hard candy brands. She took her time choosing what she wanted analyzing how she felt about the various candies she was considering buying. All considered she went with chocolate caramel, gummy bears, and a sour soft candy chew. With her cart loaded with one of each, she headed to the chips aisle to grab microwavable popcorn and ran into a group of familiar faces there.
The pilots were all gathered discussing something serious amongst themselves, as to what it was Rosalind couldn’t tell. They were all dressed casually, and it was funny seeing them wearing normal clothing with their serious faces and demeanors.
“Hi, Rosalind, funny seeing you here,” Lt. Martinez chuckled aloud causing all the pilot's heads to turn in her direction.
“Hello. What are all of you doing here?” Rosalind said trying not to laugh. She was surprised at how relaxed she felt. Being here in a sort of public place with them wasn’t scary at all and it made her happy.
“Ah. Well, we are having a get-together. It seems as though our visitors will be recalled back to their bases before the end of this next week.”
“Oh, when did they get their orders?”
“Just this morning.”
“I see. I’m sure I’ll see you all before you leave, but if not. I wish you all the best,” Rosalind offered. And she meant it, there were going to be a lot of changes with the pilots after all that’s happened, and it would be good to know they were out in the other Reefs.
“Well, why don’t you join us? It’s a get-together after all!”
“I don’t know, I was planning on relaxing since I worked all weekend. I’m going to watch a movie, eat junk food, and go to sleep,” she replied hoping he’d let her off the hook.
“Ah, a movie! That’s what we should do!” Lt. Martinez exclaimed. He turned to discuss this idea with the other pilots, and they agreed on dinner and a movie in Lt. Anderson’s house. “So, you want to watch a movie with us instead?”
