Starlight Hero.

Starlight Hero.

Mar 15, 2023

As the branch from the World Tree fell, all hope seemed lost. The massive branch, which had been large enough to cover the entire sky, plummeted towards the ground like a shooting star in the capital city of Elysian, Nevaeh, visible from all corners of the world.

But a single person managed to prevent the catastrophe: "The Star Light Hero." As the hero, known as "Arc," dashed towards the sky, he himself looked like a shooting star rising from the ground. On that day, all eyes were fixed on the sky, watching as two shooting-star-like figures collided.

Arc split the branch into two halves, which would later be known as the Bridge to Heaven. The bridge connected the Kingdom of Nevaeh with the Kingdom of Humans, Ariel, making travel to Nevaeh much easier. The connection between the two kingdoms also brought about the invention of transportation portals.

This event brought about many economic and political changes, improving trade between Nevaeh and various port-sided cities that had previously been inaccessible by sea.

Unfortunately, there were some losses as well. Many small villages were destroyed, but the greatest loss was that the world lost its hero. No one ever saw Arc again. Was he dead? No one knows. And that wasn't the only loss: the presence of the goddess Aurora also faded away from the world.

The catastrophic event left the world feeling empty, without its mortal protector. Without someone who could stand up against the so-called gods, people could only feel insecure…

'Wow, reading this story in real life really brings out the details. I can vividly recall that this tale of the fallen starlight hero was mentioned even in the novel, though there was never a hint of it being connected to the disappearance of the goddess Aurora. Yet, this story and another hero - or should I say, heroine - played a significant role in Solis' life. I must learn more about this hero, and to do that, I must journey to the city of the Gods. There, the World Tree, whose roots and branches are said to be connected with the very soul of the Creator God, can be found.'

As I lay back and gazed up at the wooden ceiling of the small library, I realised I still had so many questions about why I had been reincarnated in this world, the Celestials, Solis, and him. I knew where I could find the answers, but right now, I couldn't. Nevaeh, the capital city of Elysian, was too far away, and I lacked the funds to access the teleportation portals.

"Saul...are you in the library again?" Mable's voice called from outside.

As she entered the room with a broom in hand and a smirk on her face, her hand on her hip, I knew she would ask me to do something.
************
" Hmmmm I can't believe you would think of me that way" Mable said sarcastically," Mable is said"

" What else would I expect, the last time you barged into the library room , you asked me to help you clean the entire church" I said with an annoying look on my face " also stop talking like that it's annoying".

Mable is usually pretty calm but that day I saw a monster in her. A monster with big fangs and a broom on her hand , she made me clean the entire place the whole day without leaving even a single speck of dust.

"What's wrong with the way I talk? Mable doesn't understand your issue," she hissed.

"Ugh, that's what I mean! You keep saying your name like a kid. You do realize you're a thirty-two-year-old woman, right? You're ancient!" I cackled, reveling in the evil glint in my eye.

Smack

Today was surprisingly different, though. Instead of making me work, Mable took me shopping with her. Apparently, she was going to ask Ambra, but she wouldn't be home until late tonight. With the donations from the upcoming acoustic ceremony, Mable was planning to cook some delicious meals this week. I was beyond excited to finally have something other than milk, porridge, and broccoli.I personally don't hate it but I'd be glad if i can have something else to eat once in a while.

As we walked into a bakery to buy some bread, the cashier lady stared at me, then suddenly approached me.

"Ahh, Saul, what's with that handprint on your cheek?" she asked, gently touching my face.

I shot Mable a death glare, but she just smiled sweetly like an innocent child. She was a monster when it came to this sort of thing, and I knew better than to set her off again.

"Here, have an extra loaf of bread, Saul. Thanks for always helping me with my errands. And Mable, don't ever do that to my handsome little crush again, okay?" she giggled.

" Yes , don't you worry, miss, but I would like to state the fact that he's mine and mine alone." Mable said while pulling me towards herself.

"Hahaha, but you're getting old now. Wouldn't he prefer someone younger like me?" the cashier teased, batting her eyelashes at me.

I couldn't believe it. I was building a harem of old ladies around here. How unlucky could I get?

"Aren't you both old?" I joked, but the look in their eyes made me regret it.

Smack

Well, at least my cheeks are balanced now.

"Please, I apologise," someone screamed from outside the bakery.

Mable and I rushed outside to investigate the commotion.

A man, likely in his forties, was gripping an elderly woman by her arms and shouting at her. Mable rushed over and asked the man to release the woman's arm.

"Who are you?" the man responded angrily. "You don't even know what she has done."

"I'll hear what you have to say, but please let go of her first," Mable pleaded with the man. "You don't want the guards to get involved, do you?"

The man sighed and shoved the woman down.

"My child almost died because of this woman," he said, holding his child's hands. "She tried to sell him these dragon fruit. It was his first errand, and he almost got swindled into buying this poisonous fruit."

"I ask for your forgiveness, my lord. I had no intentions of doing it on purpose," the woman interrupted, looking genuinely remorseful.

"I don't give a damn about your problems. I don't care if you beg for money or do manual labor," the man retorted. "But you had the nerve to trick my child into buying poison. Now either you pay me double the amount of what you took from my child or spend the rest of your life in prison."

The woman dropped down on the man's leg and begged for forgiveness, but he did not appear to be swayed.

"I see. I also ask for forgiveness on her behalf, dear sir," Mable interceded. "You see, let me pay you on her behalf."

After some bargaining, the man ultimately accepted an additional ten percent from the original price and left with his child. Mable, on the other hand, assisted the elderly woman with packing her belongings.

"May I ask you something, ma'am? Why were you selling those dragon fruit? You know they're not something that can be sold, especially to a child," Mable asked the woman, who now looked even more guilt-ridden.

The woman began to cry before she could respond. "I'm really sorry, my child. I know even God won't forgive me for my crime, but I had no other choice. My grandchild is very sick and bedridden, and I have no money for their medicine. I looked all around the forest to see if I could find anything valuable to sell, but I had no luck. Unfortunately, I only found these dragon fruit and brought them here in case anyone would buy them. That's when that child appeared, and I thought..."

She began to sob once more. I looked at the basket behind her and saw four dragon fruits. I couldn't believe something so rare was being sold so casually. If only I could have those dragon fruits.

Mable smiled at her and then looked at me," You…wouldn't mind if we only have porridge again this month as well, right?"she had an apologetic look on her face .

" Ofcourse, your porridge is the most delicious thing I mean food after all " I said before bursting into laughter, she really is kind.

She gave the old lady whatever money she had , for which the lady couldn't stop thanking her and blessed her with eternal happiness. Since we had no money ,Mable also apologised to the lady in the bakery for cancelling our order but looking at her kindness she gave us some of the bread for free.

" Mable , can we take that dragon fruit as well?" I asked her, she looked confused at first but then she agreed.

***********************
As we got back to the church, I hurriedly went into the library to find any book related to the dragon fruit. Because when we were on the way ,Mable told me that the dragon fruit wasn't meant for eating, rather it was used to enhance the weapons because of its high Mana potency .

"Are they all idiot's, they're using something this valuable to enhance weapons" I groaned.

I couldn't find anything related to the fruit in the library.
I sighed," This fruit can take a B tier mage to an A+ tier, yet it's being used as a weapon enhancer, maybe it hasn't been discovered yet that it's the richest source of mana source, what a shame".

As I made my way downstairs with a bucket of delicious fruits in my hand, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and excitement. Mable was calling me for dinner, but little did she know that I held in my possession a truly divine item, one that would leave her absolutely amazed.

I chuckled to myself, knowing that this discovery was so valuable that people would stop at nothing to get their hands on it. But why would it disappear during Solis' age? Perhaps it was precisely because of this powerful fruit. Despite the risks, I knew I couldn't keep this secret from Mable. She deserved to know the truth.

Lost in my thoughts, I accidentally ran into the wall in the dining room, causing someone to giggle. It was Mable, of course, who rushed over to make sure I was alright. Well I'm only eight now so it's understandable

" Pfft, what were you thinking so hard about" she said in a mocking tone, damn sometimes she's so annoying.

" Nothing important, I just wanna show you something after dinner" I could clearly feel the excitement glimmering in my eyes.

" Ah ,even I have something to show you" she said as got up to serve the porridge.

********
After we finished dinner, I placed a basket of dragon fruit on the table and excitedly told Mable that we were going to have something delicious.

"No way," she exclaimed. "Are you thinking of eating this fruit? I told you before that it's not something that can be eaten."

"Well, yeah," I replied, "but I'm going to tell you a secret."

She looked at me with curiosity.

"I've eaten this before, and nothing happened. To add to that, it even acts as a source of mana elixirs." Of course, I had to lie to her about having eaten it before, but I had no other way of making her trust me.

"Hmmm," she said thoughtfully. "Well, that could explain how you survived in that forest, but I still have my doubts."

"Please, just this once, believe in me. There is a certain way in which it can be eaten," I pleaded.

"Well, okay. I still can't risk it. If anything happens to you, then I don't know what I will do, so I'll be the one to eat it." She searched through the kitchen drawer and handed me a small glass bottle. "And if anything goes wrong, use this fluid. It acts as a painkiller. I don't know if it will work, but..."

"I promise nothing will happen," I interrupted. Now, even I started feeling nervous. I had only read about this in a novel, so I wasn't entirely sure if it would work, but I hoped it would.

I grabbed one of the fruits, peeled it, took out the seed, and smashed it on the table. It cracked, and inside the seed was some sort of fluid that looked like honey. I poured it on top of the fruit, like how we pour syrup on pancakes. It was ready to be eaten.

I looked at Mable, who appeared to be super nervous. I held her hand and assured her that everything would be fine.

She took a deep breath and then took a bite. For a few minutes, she didn't do or say anything, and everything went silent. I started feeling more nervous, wondering if something had gone wrong, but then she turned and hugged me.

" Woah just what?" I was confused, did she go berserk?

" Hmffff , Saullll, just what is this fruit, it's so delicious and I feel like the mana God just blessed me my body can't stop shaking" she said excitedly.

I couldn't help but smile, it worked.

" Let me have one as well now" I took another fruit from the basket, peeled it, cracked the seed and poured it the same way and took a bite.

My body started heating up, but it felt good. I closed my eyes and concentrated, I was able to see the golden and the white particles forming all around my body, although they feel a little smaller compared to the ones I've seen before. It's working, I might be able to use magic now .

But the particles suddenly disappeared in a flash. ' huh what, it's like my body isn't accepting these particles , but why?? I could have been able to use magic like others but it isn't working.

" Saul, is everything okay?" Mable said with a worried expression on her face.

" I'm…fine" I said , can't say I'm not disappointed.

" Thank God, I'm just amazed that something like this exists, imagine just how many problems it can solve."

" And also create more problems" I countered her question

" Huh what do you mean?"

" If people were to find out about its use as elixirs, they would kill anyone to get their hands on it" I said as I looked out of the window.

" Huh, buh- but " she couldn't say anything" that means people would never find out about it?" She looked a bit down.

" No ,one day they would eventually find out, but for now it's best to keep it to ourselves "

"Just, who are you, Saul?" she asked me, her eyes narrowing with suspicion.

I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to answer her question. I couldn't tell her the truth, not yet anyway. But I also couldn't lie to her outright.

"I'm just an eight year old kid," I said evasively, hoping she wouldn't press the matter.

But she didn't let it go. "That's not what I mean," she said, her voice low and serious. "You're not like anyone I've ever met before. You know things that no one else does, and you seem to have some kind of power or ability that you're not telling me about, moreover, you seem more mature than any other eight year old I've seen!"

I sighed. It seemed that I couldn't avoid the conversation after all. "I can't tell you everything, yet. But what I can tell you is that even I'm not sure about what I know and can do, I'll tell you everything one day when I'll be sure of everything that's going around me but until then could you please wait"

She still looked unconvinced, but she didn't press the matter any further. "Okay," she said slowly. "I guess I can accept that for now".

" Anyways, isn't it your turn to show me something?"

" Ahh yes ,I almost forgot about it" She smirked" even I'm going to show you something amazing, follow me!"
