The young yubiwa was laying on the bed. He must've fallen asleep during reading a book, which was still opened.
He slightly opened his eyes. He was about to go to sleep, but first he had to get that blonde haired hikouri out of his mind. Besides, if he'd fall asleep now, what would he do at night?
Struggling to sleep. As usual.
Yubiwa got up. He sighed, when one of his dogs jumped at his feet.
"Kaze, sit down. We're not going anywhere, it's not your time. I just left the bed" he said calmly and walked to the kitchen.
He poured water into the glass. He felt a little dizzy. He didn't know, if it was because of a nightmare or because of the fact that entering Midtimes from a dream drained more of his energy than entering Midtimes from reality.
He looked at his phone. Seventeen missed messages from Kanzu. Standard. He must have known he was having a nightmare. He should categorically forbid his friend to look into his mind every now and then.
He read the messages, while sipping his water. Nothing interesting. Kanzu just asked, if everything was okay and apologized for existing. Also the standard.
He sat on the windowsill and looked out the window. At this grey, cruel world, now covered with a few millimeters of water.
A drunk driver killed Tansetsuki's family. Brother, sister-in-law and a little niece. And that poor unborn child, who never got to see the sunlight.
What must have Tansetsuki felt, when he saw all those bodies under the ice? After all, they definitely reminded him of his family. Of those he loved and lost. Who he couldn't help, because he probably wasn't there. Or he was alone and couldn't do anything. Or he tried and failed.
Whatever Tansetsuki had been through in the past, it must have been horrible. And even if he changes the future, hikouri will remember everything anyway. He'll only obtain memories from another timeline with the potion. He'll come to his office and hand him the money. And yubiwa will just smile, say that it was pure pleasure for him and thank him once again, awake, for this conversation about life and death.
Only now did he realise, how important this conversation was. And how necessary for him to regain some peace of mind.
"Do you really have to be so stubborn?" he looked at Monsoon, who tried to sit down on his lap.
He picked her up and put beside him. Doggie squeaked with joy, made a pirouette and laid down on the windowsill.
He looked at the moon. It was amber like Tansetsuki's eyes. In fact his customer had pretty eyes. But he was so stubborn. But maybe it's a good thing.
He heard knocking on the door. He got up and went to open it. Only one person could disturb his peaceful time at this hour.
Asagao Kanzu. His best friend, who just sent him the eighteenth message - "I'm standing at the door, open it."
He sighed as he saw Kanzu himself through the viewfinder. And his annoying to the core lover.
Why did he bring him here?
"Hello, Kanzu. I'm alive" he said, when he opened the door. "Hi, Taketsumi."
"Tsutsu is moody as always?" Taketsumi Yokan, an owner of spiky, black hair and beady orange eyes gave him his teasing smile.
"Kanzu, take him away, before I smear him on the wall" yubiwa muttered, turning on his heel. "You know that I'm not dangling from the ceiling now, go home."
"You didn't reply to my messages" said Kanzu quietly, squinting his purple eyes. "Can't I worry about my best friend anymore?"
"I'm not a teenager anymore, Kanzu. You don't have to babysit me" the yubiwa muttered.
"Takitsu" Kanzu hasn't said anything in such a sharp and firm tone as his name now since a long time.
"Oh, you must have pissed him off" Yokan, as usual, commented the situation with a smile on his face. "I'll go, or else I'll become a casualty."
"You're staying" Kanzu gave him a murderous look.
Yokan just sighed.
"You put us in trouble, Tsutsu" as he said as stepped inside and took off his boots.
"You're getting mud on the floor" Takitsu growled. "And don't call me >>Tsutsu<<."
"You're whining" Yokan threw both boots towards the shoe shelf.
Mud sprayed everywhere. Takitsu just sighed. He didn't have the strength to fuss anymore.
"You should at least reply to my messages" mumbled Kanzu, slowly and carefully taking off his trainers.
Takitsu tried to remember, when was the last time, when he saw Kanzu in different shoes than trainers. In school, probably.
They weren't in the same class. Kanzu was two years older, like his brother. It was him, who introduced them to each other. And both of them were a reason, why Takitsu was still alive.
"I was sleeping" replied Takitsu, pouring water into the glass.
"And you had a nightmare?"
"Did you see it?"
"I just peeked" admitted Kanzu.
"But after last time, when you punched him, when he tried to wake you up, he's a little afraid of doing it" added Yokan. "You don't have to thank me for explaining this, cloudy."
Kanzu just shook his head.
"Have you been there through all that nightmare?" asked Takitsu, realising that Kanzu could saw Tansetsuki.
And it wouldn't be okay, because his friend would leave him alone, but Taketsumi...
And if Noichi would hear about this...
He felt dizzy just from thinking about it.
"No. I sneaked in, I saw water, ice and fog and I left" confirmed Kanzu. "But now is everything okay, right?"
"Yes. It was just a nightmare" mumbled Takitsu, sipping water.
He saw in his mind Tansetsuki's amber eyes. He has to forget about them right now.
