We seem to be getting closer to a complete understanding of the calamity children however we still have more to find. The Montauk facility was shut down three years ago since they ran out of budget, which makes us the last facility investigating the calamity children. It's already been two years since they brought us the second generation of calamity children for their study. Even though we've been experimenting on them every day for two years, there seems to be no limit to the knowledge we can extract from them. Their mere existence already defies everything we thought we knew about the functioning of the world. However, something is clear, these creatures will signify science's greatest breakthrough in human history. And I'm not even talking about winning the war anymore, these kids could finally mean the elaboration of a theory that would unify relativity with quantum physics. We are talking about a true Theory Of Everything.

But I'm getting sidetracked. These two years have proven to be truly fruitful and as challenging as fascinating. There's still too much we still don't know about the calamity children, however, we have already taken great steps to understand them. Prior research done by the other facilities showed that the working of the calamity children's phenomena is intrinsically connected to the alteration of reality at a quantum level, hence creating macroscopic alterations. In fact, on a quantum scale, every particle exists as a wave function. This wave represents the superposition of the different possible states for a particle, as shown by Schrodinger's cat experiment. This means that the particle exists in a state of quantum superposition until it's "measured" or "observed". When measured, the wave function collapses and "chooses" between one of its possible states. The calamity children's (hereinafter referred to as the observer) power allows them to ignore the Uncertainty Principle and manipulate their observations of the world on a quantum scale, hence interfering with the collapse of wave functions so it "chooses" the state willed by the observer. This process of alteration of the reality itself is repeated countless times thanks to countless complex calculations made by the observer in order to achieve the willed macroscopic effect. That's what was discovered and confirmed some years ago by the research done across the different facilities before they were shut down. However, we continued investigating. Thanks to that, after all these years we discovered something revolutionary.

Since we discovered how the calamity children's powers were applied to the world we tried to understand the true origin of these powers. We needed to understand how it was possible for them to alter reality to such a degree as to create macroscopic changes. In fact, such an alteration needs a lot of energy, exotic energy. Such an amount of energy couldn't be generated even by a power plant with our current technology. So how could a single person generate this amount of energy? To find the answer we had to take a more "aggressive" approach to the research. I won't say I'm proud of what we did, but it had to be done. Then, finally, we discovered something. The answer is Dark Energy. The same energy that is responsible for the universe's constant expansion, is at the origin of the calamity children's powers. Somehow, they are able to manipulate this energy and store it. Then they can use it as an energy source for the application of their powers. Thanks to this we were able to separate the calamity children's power into two parts:

-The calamity seed: this is the ability to feel, manipulate, control, and store Dark Energy and it's what makes calamity children different from the rest of humans.

-The observer's reality: this is the calamity children's ability to alter reality. Every calamity child has a different observer's reality, since they have different "powers" that go from granting them speed or strength to being able to control objects or create chemical reactions. The observer's reality is what we would call the "power" or "ability" of a calamity child.

Further research showed that every calamity child from the second generation had the calamity seed, even those who weren't able to awaken their observer's reality and hence had no real power. Furthermore, we also discovered a link between the strength of the calamity children's observer's reality and their connection to Dark Energy. In fact, through meditation, calamity children are able to synchronize their mind and body better with the Dark Energy, and the more synchronized they are with Dark Energy, the more powerful their observer's reality (power, ability) will become. We noticed that through these meditations calamity children would achieve little breakthroughs that would improve their observer's reality strength. To be more specific, there were 4 little breakthroughs followed by a bigger one that in addition to further improving the calamity child's observer's reality, also granted them the ability to integrate their observer's reality into their own body, further improving their physical qualities. We named these little breakthroughs, steps, and the steps between each bigger breakthrough, stages. This way we have at least 2 stages each one conformed by 5 steps for every calamity child. We called the first stage Manifestation stage and the second one Integration stage.

While the rest of the facilities gave up on researching further the functioning of the abilities of the calamity children, we never lost hope. Even when the other facilities were being shut down and the project was running out of budget we never slacked off. Thanks to that we arrived further than any other facility could have. As cruel as our methods may have been, we have helped science take one of its biggest steps. Only time will tell if we were right or wrong.]
