A God's Birth

Observer Mechanics

Observer Mechanics

Mar 24, 2023

"Okay, now that everyone is here, let's start the class. Since we are beginning ten minutes late, we will also be taking ten minutes from your lunch break to finish the class. You can thank Seth and Jake" the whole class shot irritated glances to Jake and Seth as Mr Voight said this.

"As you all know, your midterm exams are approaching, and to prepare for them today we will be reviewing the main topics from the chapter of quantum mechanics and espers." Mr Voight continued "I'll be asking questions, and those who answer a question right will receive bonus points on their midterm exam. I want full answers, half answers even if correct will not receive the bonus point. So if you don't know the full answer don't raise your hand" Mr Voight looked at the class who had nervous and expectant looks on their face.

"Since everyone seems ready let's begin shall we? First question, what is called the branch of physics that studies the application of esper abilities, to which type of physics does it belongs and who are considered their founding fathers?" Mr Voight asked and half of the class raised their hands. Mr Voight looked to everybody and pointed to a girl with blonde hair while the rest of the class lowered their hands and the girl stood up.

"The branch of physics that studies the application of esper abilities is called observer mechanics, it forms part forms part of quantum physics and those who are considered their founding fathers are Andrew Dayholt and Thomas Wardson," she answered.

"That's correct, very well Lea," Mr. Voight said to Lea who shot a quick smile to Jake before sitting down again.

"Dude? You saw that?" Jake asked Seth

"Huh? What?" Seth asked confused.

"Lea, she smiled at me"

"I think you are seeing things, you better focus on the questions I will need those points," Seth said

"Next question, why are Dayholt and Wardson considered the founding fathers of observer mechanics?" Mr. Voight asked and around half of the class raised their hands. Mr. Voight looked at everybody and then pointed to Seth, giving him the word.

"Wardson and Dayholt are considered the founding fathers of observer mechanics because of the theory they wrote in their book called "The power of God" from 2167 which granted them the Nova Prize of physics. They elaborated this theory after years of investigating data from espers, and it was the first theory and is currently the pillar of observer mechanics." said Seth before he sat down.

"That's correct." Mr. Voight said, then he continued "and I think it's important to say that the theories that say that observer mechanics were studied since the apparition of espers through human experimentation are false. When espers appeared humanity tried to foolishly use their power without even trying to understand it, all with the goal of killing each other. It was only when humanity began cooperating after Humankind's Eclipse, that we were really able to advance and see the true potential of espera abilities. The world we live in today was built thanks to human cooperation and espers, this is what you need to remember." he said with a solemn tone. "Now for the next question…" Mr. Voight continued asking more questions before going back to explaining the main observer mechanics' equations that they would be asked in the midterm exam. As he promised, once the bell rang Mr. Voight took an extra 10 minutes before dismissing the class.

"Let's grab something to eat quickly, I'm starving," Jake said while they exited the class.

"How can you be so relaxed? We just got a lot of points deducted from our midterm exam and you didn't even try answering any of the questions during class" Seth said.

"You see, academics aren't everything, no one will care about my scores after I win the Rising Espers Tournament and join the HSA, all that will matter is my strength, and I'm pretty strong," Jake said with a confident smirk. "Speaking of which, are you going to join the tournament? Since you still haven't awakened your ability it's more dangerous for you to join."

"You too?" Seth said in a tired tone.

"What?"

"I had this same conversation with Mrs. Cunningham earlier."

"Eek, you made me feel old. Still, maybe you should listen to her, she knows what she's talking about." Jake said with a worried tone "Plus, I probably won't be there to protect you if you need" he added with a smirk

"As if. Don't forget I beat your ass this morning"

"Huh? That's just because I couldn't use my ability"

"So what? If I had my ability the outcome would have been the same" Seth replied with a smirk.

"You are becoming quite cocky, you know that?" Jake said also smirking "Fair enough, enter the tournament, just know I don't plan to save you unless you get on your knees and admit how powerful I am," Jake said in a fake prideful tone.

"I think we have a deal," Seth said while laughing.

"Now let's hurry up or we're gonna miss the good dishes," Jake said with a gluttonous look on his face as he increased the pace.

As one of the most prestigious academies, Hyperion academy's dining hall was as modern as it could get. The dining hall was gigantic enough to allow the over two thousand students of the academy to use one chair each and leave over two hundred chairs free, so that the dining hall would never look crowded. The menus were displayed in holographic projections all around the hall and each table had a tactile screen where students could place their orders which then would be brought to their tables thanks to drones that were flying all around the dining hall.

As they arrived at the dining hall, Jake and Seth quickly chose a free table and sat down before placing their orders. After some minutes their meals arrived at their tables and almost at the same time, arrived a boy with orange hair and a girl with black hair and glasses, who sat next to Seth and Jake.
