"Freshmen should learn to keep their mouths shut, at least on the first day." the darker-skinned kid said, laughing. "You're the favorite to take on the Knave role. Maybe you should be quiet to maintain a good reputation." he continued, and Dominick let out a long sigh. The first day was always the busiest until one of them understood that they should not meddle in these matters.
One of Dominick's colleagues threw a sword at him.
"The rules are the same for everyone, it ends when a drop of blood is drawn." Dominick announced as he positioned himself in the center of the room. "Sorry, we have no courtesy for Freshmen! You should go to the medium level if you were looking for something easy."
Ezariel didn't say anything. He simply took a sword and stood in front of Dominick. People started whispering, and bets on who would win ran loose.
"I hope Dom cuts his tongue out. So he learns to keep his mouth shut." Annabell whispered to herself. She looked at the astonished faces of the two sisters and ended up laughing. "Sorry!"
"Annabell, I thought you'd be more like... an..." one of the sisters said, hesitating.
"Angel? People outside the capital often think so of the royal family. Rumors cause these problems. Normally they all take them literally,. the girl with brown hair replied, nodding her head. "The rumors are a bit overdone. I am a normal person. Do not believe in too perfect people, they are suspicious!" she pointed to the redhead. "And he manages to be incredibly annoying. We had to be together for two hours! That was the worst experience of my life."
"This must be a gift from the people of the Kingdom of Hearts." Diana agreed with her sister. "Their fight will begin. Dominick should beat this guy in three minutes."
"It will not reach two." Annabell spoke with confidence.
She didn't understand fighting very well, but she knew Dominick was one of the best. It was hard to make him stay longer than five minutes fighting. If someone was past three, it would be a surprise.
A whistle sounded, and neither of them waited a second to start attacking. The movements were fast, and Annabell couldn't keep up with the rhythm of the sword. The sound of the iron clashing was the only noise in the middle of the huge room.
The princess could see that Dominick's expression was beginning to get irritated, while Ezariel seemed to be having even more fun with the situation. A few seconds later, two drops of blood flew through the room, one of which fell on Annabell's skirt, staining it red.
People didn't know if they were looking at the princess or the two who fought within seconds. Everyone was trying to find out whose blood it was, but they went off to opposite sides. It couldn't be the same person.
"It was a draw." the blood of the two ran. Dominick had a cut on his cheek, and Ezariel had one on his arm.
The colors of the room changed. One half acquired a strong shade of red, and the coat of arms on the flags on the red side changed. They turned black, and in the center was the design of a rose.
Next to Annabell, people offered thousands of handkerchiefs. Although everyone believed that Annabell was sweet and kind, doubt still lingered in the minds of many. The royal family was reputed to be explosive. Annabell's own mother had already expelled one of her counselors for staining a document.
"I'm sorry for staining the pure princess with my blood." he said, bowing, but his expression didn't show sincerity. In fact, it was the complete opposite. "You should wear red... preferably a shade similar to blood. It suits His Highness." Annabell felt nauseous just hearing those words come out of his mouth.
People began to offer more handkerchiefs to the princess. She was already beginning to feel suffocated.
"It's okay, it was just an accident." she smiled at people, trying to reassure them. "I just need to change my clothes."
"It will keep up the false kindness for how long? I wonder. How long will people pretend not to see?" the woman stood up and walked towards him.
"Making a fuss doesn't change the fact that my laundry is dirty. I can't help it if rumors spread about me. I'm a normal person. No, I'm patience incarnate." Ezariel was practically 10 centimeters taller than her. The princess looked up at him. "What? Besides my smile being annoying, my sincerity is also?" she continued. "The hysterical queen was from your kingdom, it must be genetic. I think we're just... we're not crazy."
"What did you say, you..." a person that Annabell had not even seen before threatened to go up on her, but Ezariel put his arm in front of her, keeping him from moving forward.
"The sweet flower is not so sweet." he said.
"Flowers also have thorns." She turned and left the room, her steps firm. Without showing any sign of stopping, she maintained her posture with a small smile.
All the residents of the Lotus Dormitory withdrew. Annabell despised having to prove that delicacy did not equate to weakness. She had to have infinite patience, or whatever else was expected of her.
Everyone followed Annabell, hoping she would say something. She took a few deep breaths and turned to Diana.
"I need to go to our dorm to change clothes." she looked at Diana with pleading eyes, indicating that she couldn't stand being around all those people.
"Of course, we can go there." Rosalia appeared by her sister’s side. "And you will too. " Before the girl could say anything, the sister answered for her.
"People said that having you and Ezariel would be interesting." Gael’s voice came out of nowhere. Annabell's legs shook, and she was sure he hadn't been there before.
"Where did you come from?" Her gaze was a little frightened. Someone appearing out of nowhere beside her was a clear sign of danger.
"I was trying to get through the crowd, well that doesn’t matter. Oh! Congratulations, you made it onto the dorm boss candidate list in less than five hours. The downside is that Ezariel is also on the list." Gael chattered about how unheard-of it was to make it onto the list so quickly. He also talked about how unfortunate it was to have to share the achievement with Ezariel.
"Are you sure the person who runs that list isn’t just a bored student?" Annabell asked skeptically.
"Don’t be silly, Princess Annabell. If that were the case, it would be much worse for you. Believe me!" Gael reassured her, putting his hand on her shoulder and smiling.
"That doesn't reassure me." Annabell replied.
