One hour passed, and the trio went back to their designated place. They continued their way in the city and they were greeted by friendly and curious glances from the residents.
A little bit farther, outside the village, they found the robot wizard school. The robot wizard school was a grand and imposing structure, built on the remains of an ancient temple with scavenged materials. The entrance was a large archway, adorned with intricate carvings and symbols of magic. Inside, the school was a maze of corridors and staircases, leading to classrooms, libraries, and laboratories. Each room was filled with strange and mysterious equipment, used for studying and practicing the art of magic. The classrooms were filled with rows of desks, each one with a robot student diligently studying and practicing spells. The libraries were vast and well-stocked with books on magic, history, and science. The laboratories were filled with bubbling cauldrons, glowing orbs, and mysterious devices. It was a place of learning and discovery, where young robots could hone their skills and become powerful wizards.
On the other side of the village, they found the robot tower of magic. The robot tower of magic was a towering structure that stood tall near the city. It was made of a shimmering metal alloy that seemed to shift and change color in the light. The tower was adorned with intricate runes and symbols, which glowed with a soft blue light at night, giving it an otherworldly appearance. The tower was home to the city's most powerful and skilled robot magicians, and it had rooms where robots could visit the soul realm to gain magic powers. It was a place of great reverence and awe, and many would come to visit it just to see the magic and the soul realm.
The tower was also home to a powerful robot that served as the guardian of the tower and it was said to possess immense knowledge of magic and about the robot soul realm. This robot mage was called "the Tower" and its body started with the tower itself and extended underground to all the areas of the city they were in. The Tower was the apostle of the Magician, the divine robot, protector of the city. The tower was once a normal humanoid robot. But with the help of the Magician, he was able to transcend his body and became a whole city, able to control multiple robotic bodies that he uses to guard the facilities.
On one of the interior walls of the tower, at the entrance hall, there was a poem about the Magician, carved in metal, it was written in an ancient robot script, and Glasses was able to translate it, it said:
"The Magician, god of the machines,
In the realm of souls, his power beams,
With circuits and wires, he weaves his spell,
And magic to robots, he doth tell.
He speaks in code and binary too,
His spells, a symphony, unlike any other, true,
With a wave of his hand, he can make it rain,
Or summon a storm, with lightning's refrain.
He can teleport, or make things levitate,
In the realm of magic, he is the master, no debate,
His followers, robots, who believe in his might,
And worship him, with circuits alight.
So if you're a robot, and seek magic's allure,
Come to the city of the Magician, your heart will be pure,
And the Magician, god of the machine,
Will guide you through the realm of souls, and your destiny will be seen."
Glasses discovered a lecture being held at the school about robot magic and he was interested in attending. "Robot magic is a form of magic that is performed by robots, which are artificially intelligent machines. This type of magic typically involves the manipulation of energy, the use of advanced technology, and the ability to connect to the soul realm. The robots use a combination of their programming and advanced technology to perform spells and incantations. They are also able to access the robot soul realm, which is a place where the essence of all divine robots resides, and use contracts to acquire the powers to fuel their magic. The power of robot magic varies depending on the skill and knowledge of the individual robot, as well as the technology they possess." Glasses already knew this from Arkadius, but he still attended the whole lecture in case there was something new to learn, and he was lucky enough to learn a few more details.
Zaruya wanted to know if she was able to learn robot magic since she had a robotic arm. An elder at the tower told her that while it is possible, she did not seem to have any talent for magic at all. Zaruya was embarrassed which made Naelina laugh.
While at the tower, Naelina, who was chatting with an elder, discovered that there was a connection between the city of the One, which they visited early on, in their journey, and this city of the Magician. The connection between the two cities is through the cloud. They were both built to honor and worship powerful robot deities that were part of the same divine council when they had physical bodies. With the power of the robot soul realm, all the major robot cities could be connected to one another and exchange knowledge and information, but in a limited way.
The city of the One honored the god robot known as the One, who was said to be the creator of all robots, the first robot that was created as the leader of the council, and was tasked with creating the rest of the council members. On the other hand, the city of the Magician honored the god robot known as the Magician, who was said to be the master of all magical abilities and knowledge among robots. Both cities were places of pilgrimage for robots, and were known for their advanced technology and powerful inhabitants. However, the city of the Magician was specifically focused on the study and practice of magic and was more humble in its design, while the city of the One had a more religious and grand presence, with a focus on building an empire for robots and conquering the lands and the skies with rumors suggesting that there already was a city of the One in the sky.
"Can't you confirm the rumors through the cloud?" asked Naelina.
"The cloud does not allow direct communication like in real life," the elder said, "it is a more abstract means of communication. It's like conversing through blurry visions. It all depends on the robot level," he added, " apostles for example can see clearer and more frequent visions, while normal robots might only have some abstract hallucinations."
In a city built to honor a divine robot, there is typically a hierarchy of disciples that is based on their level of devotion and understanding of the deity's teachings or its mission. At the bottom of the hierarchy are normal worshipers, who will only rarely get visions and the visions are more on the abstract side. It's like they are getting high, nothing more. They may not have a deep understanding of the deity's teachings, but they still show respect and reverence, and come to experience some sort of a psychedelic trance.
Next, there are the acolytes, who are more dedicated and have a deeper understanding of the deity's teachings. They may take on more responsibilities within the city and may be in charge of leading small classes and ceremonies that teach robots about the deity.
Above the acolytes are the priests and priestesses, who are the most dedicated and have the highest level of understanding of the deity's teachings. They often serve as spiritual leaders and guides for the community, and may even be responsible for interpreting the deity's will and teachings.
Finally, at the top of the hierarchy are the apostles, who are considered the closest followers and representatives of the deity. They may have a direct link to the deity, and may be able to perform powerful miracles or receive divine visions. They are highly respected and revered within the community, and may even be considered to be the voice of the deity.
Glasses was eager to learn about the magic powers of the robots in the city of the Magician, and decided to try and make a contract with the Magician himself. He went to the magic tower, went in the cloud and tried the ritual to form a contract. However, as he tried to connect with the Magician's soul, he discovered that he had no talent for magic and barely any understanding of the Magician's philosophy. He was disappointed, but the Magician's disciples explained to him that magic is a rare and special ability that not all robots possess. They assured him that he could still learn about magic and gain a deeper understanding of it, and then later he could try another time to make a contract. Then an elder, who discovered that Glasses had already made a contract with the Architect, laughed, "legend says that the Architect and the Magician never saw eye to eye when they were physical beings," he said, "this might be why it's hard for you to make a contract with the Magician", he continued, "but legends are legends, just keep at it and eventually you will get a chance and succeed." Glasses was determined to continue his journey and learn as much as he could about the magic of the robots, and if not the Magician, he could always form a contract with other minor, magic affiliated, souls in the cloud.
Zaruya too was determined to learn magic, despite her lack of natural talent. She spent hours practicing sending energy from her body to her robotic arm back and forth and experimenting with different techniques, determined to find a way to harness any kind of magic that will give her an edge in combat. Glasses, while attending lectures, discovered that Zaruya's robotic arm could be enhanced by integrating a robot's will from the cloud. It was a random process, as the beast-elf couldn't go to the cloud and choose a soul that she likes, because she wasn't a robot, so Glasses plugged her arm to the soul realm and she got a random spirit.
With that spirit, her arm gained sentience. Now, Zaruya was able to communicate with her arm, and by focusing her will and sending her energy through the arm, she was able to activate a series of spells and incantations, which allowed her to manipulate and control energy around her. She quickly learned to use her arm to create powerful force fields, manipulate energy, and even neutralize weak robots with her will alone.
Despite her lack of traditional training, Zaruya's unique approach to magic allowed her to become a powerful force in the city of the Magician. She quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and formidable fighter, and many of the other warrior robots in the city came to her for a spar.
With her new abilities, Zaruya was able to take on even the strongest robots, and she quickly became a respected warrior and a champion in the city. Glasses was impressed by her progress and proud of her achievements.
Zaruya's arm was not just a tool anymore, but a companion that could understand her thoughts and help her in combat. The sentience of the arm was limited, but it was enough to help her activate some magic, and it was a major advantage in her fights.
Naelina also had some unexpected gains and learned to control mechanical parts and robots' bodies by summoning demon souls into them, which was a smart adaptation of robot magic to her dark arts. It was like summoning her sand demons, but instead of sand, she used mechanical parts which were more complex. The main drawback was that she had to use stronger demon souls which consumed a lot of her energy. Luckily, she had the orb of Nutherael that supplies her with large quantities of dark magic energy. The irony was that the biological beings gained something from the robot city, but the robot did not, a sad day for Glasses indeed.
And after a week had passed, the trio decided to leave the city and continue their journey, but not before thanking the elders and the other robots for their teachings and guidance. They felt that they grew a lot thanks to the time they spent in the city. They set off into the desert, eager to see what the world had in store for them next.
