I sink down into the couch, replaying what just happened in my head. I am thinking over the part where Jackson called me a bitch when I hear a knock on the door. I call out, "Come in." and the door opens. It's Nikki. She sees me crying on the couch and rushes over to me, sitting down and putting a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Abbie, what's going on?" she asks me, her voice full of concern. "Jackson and I broke up." I manage to say, in between sobs. "What? Why? What happened?" she asks me. I have no choice but to answer. "Well, he went out earlier, and a few minutes ago, he came back. He was obviously drunk, and it looked like he had been sleeping with someone - again. I started to insist that he go to bed because he was really drunk, and then he started shouting at me. He called me a bitch and said I didn't deserve him. I was so fed up with his behavior that I screamed back, and he left." I say, and take a few deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. "What? I am going to beat his scrawny bitch ass to pieces the next time I see him." Nikki says, and I can practically feel the smoke coming out of her ears. "Woah, woah, it's not that bad. The truth is, I'm glad to see him gone. He has done nothing but cheat on me the past few years we've been together. It hasn't been fun." I say, then a thought occurs to me. "Oh no! I can't keep living here! This is his dorm room. Where am I gonna live?" I say, freaking out. "Relax Abbie. You can live with me. There is space for you, don't worry. How about we start packing up all of your stuff and get you moved out before he comes back." Nikki says, coming to my rescue. "Nikki! You're the best!" I say, jumping up and hugging her. She pulls out her phone, opens Pandora, and starts to play the soundtrack of Footloose. We start going through the dorm, grabbing all of my stuff, and packing it up. We manage to get enough boxes - Jackson orders from Amazon A LOT - and in about 2 hours, the dorm looks bare, since most of the decorations were mine. When I have a quiet moment to myself, I start to think about the pretty girl who sat next to me in class today. Kat. She's really cute. "Ready to go?" Nikki asks. I take one last look around the place, and open the door, holding a box. Jackson is standing there, looking even more drunk than before. "Abbie?" he says, but in his drunken state it sounds more like, " Aggdie?" Nikki comes up behind me, carrying even more boxes, and stops dead in her tracks when she sees him. "Move." she says. "No." Jackson says, sounding tired. "I said, MOVE." Nikki shouts. "And I said NO. Abbie is MY partner, and this is OUR house. Get out before I call the cops!!" Jackson screams at her. "You have one more chance to move out of our way. You know what I'm capable of, and you don't want to be the victim. I suggest you move before it's too late." Nikki says, sounding very tough and threatening. "This is my house, I do what I want." Jackson says. "You asked for it." Nikki says, and doesn't wait more than 1.5 seconds before she knees him right in his soft spot. He howls with pain and falls to the ground. Nikki shoves him out of the way with her foot, then gives me a high five. "Let's get going." Nikki says. Outside is a cart ready for my boxes. We start to drag the boxes out of the dorm room and onto the cart. Jackson looks up at me. "Abbie? Why are you leaving?" he asks. "Don't play dumb with me, idiot. Think back to earlier tonight. Maybe then you'll remember." I say, and walk away, grateful that we got all of the boxes out. We walk the short walk to Nikki's dorm, and she unlocks the door. It's beautiful and well furnished. It takes me a second, however, to notice that someone is sitting on the couch. Oh my Lord, it's Kat. The cute girl from earlier today! "Abbie, this is my roomie, Kat. Kat, this is my bestie, Abbie." Nikki says. "W-we've met." I say nervously. "What's with all of the boxes?" asks Kat, confused. "Abbie and their boyfriend, Jackson, had a huge fight. Jackson came back to their dorm drunk after cheating on them again, so they broke up with him. The two were living in Jackson's dorm, and Abbie had no where else to live. Since we have room, I volunteered our room." Nikki says.
