The Han couple saw their phones going off as several notifications came in from various sources. Some were calling to cancel their invitation to Han Chaewon’s upcoming 50th birthday; others were from either reporters or those pretending to be reporters, professional acquaintances, and long-lost relatives*. Han Jiho walked into the room in the midst of them all.
“Son, please sit and tell us; did you or did you not donate your sperm? Your mother and I deserve to know the truth. We don’t want to have to hear it from others?” pleaded Han Soo-Hyun as he showed his son the news that was circulating about their family.
Jiho was struck mute by the shocking revelation; he was not ready for his parents to know what he had supposedly done in secret to do selfless service to humanity.
“I-I went to Mirae Sarang Lab late last year and was told it is completely anonymous and no one would know I was the donor because many women and men suffer infertility. It would help if I joined their cause. That was my first time participating, but I never thought it would be this damaging,” Jiho sobbed sadly.
Han Chaewon kept hitting her chest as she lamented, “Why did I give birth to such a halfwit? What else don’t we know of? Did you also donate your organs? Jisu is studying hard to make us proud, but you have caused us nothing but grief! Your father and I have to be the ones to clean up after you; we don’t know if the victim would settle out of court! For your sake, better hope that she does, or start thinking of looking for another parent!”
Chaewon’s nose flared from boiling anger. Clenched fists appeared as though she was ready to strike her son, whose eyes remained downcast while maintaining his silence. The tension in the room was at an all-time high none of them wanted to wave the peace flag.
When Kaycee missed her period after a visit to the doctor’s office for a pap smear, she dismissed it as stress-related; when the third month was around the corner. Her monthly visitor was strangely absent, and that was when Kaycee knew that it had gone beyond stress. Worried that something didn’t seem right, a trip to her local drug store and two lines on the absorbent stick from the pregnancy kit sent her world crashing down.
Jiho believed in the noblesse duty of showing kindness and being selfless by offering to be an anonymous sperm donor without prior knowledge of his ultra-conservative affluent family. All hell breaks loose when his identity is no longer a secret, thanks to medical misconduct.
