Wind emissaries were fast, but Jasmim in particular, whether it was for aptitude, for being a kitsune or for all his training, he took that skill to another level. She fought with the ferocity of a half-beast and the fluidity of a Wind Emissary.
Luther, seeing a small opening appear, went straight for his enemy's neck, but was forced to interrupt his attack to defend himself from another dagger coming from the darkness of the forest.
When he managed to get away from Jasmim, the man said:
“Ash, that wasn't necessary. I can take care of these two!”
Stepping out of the shadows holding another dagger, the silver haired elf said:
“Master Poltergeist, if there's one thing you've taught me, it's that you're against that kind of people, you can't be too careful.”
Jasmim, who had also noticed something familiar about her opponent, realized who they were up against.
“Dimitri Poltergeist?!”, said Jasmim.
"That's why he looked so familiar, this defector is on the alliance's most wanted list", Luther said.
Dimitri Poltergeist, was a name that was once known for being a great general of the Knights Templar. Organization that served as a unit between users and non-users of magic against threats to the peace established by the Alliance. Although the common thing was to see them dealing with magical threats.
However, currently Poltergeist's name was known as “The Deseter General”. No one knew for sure what were the reasons that led him to leave the Order and those who seemed to know were not pronounced, but it was a fact that Poltergeist changed completely since the day he left the Order.
"Can I kill these two soon?", said someone still hidden in the darkness.
Upon hearing that other voice, both Jasmim and Luther took a step back without even noticing. There was something macabre in that voice, something that brought hopelessness, as if its owner didn't have a soul.
Finally, it turned out to be a man wearing a white mask with some engravings on it and deer antlers. The scythe in his hand glinted in the moonlight.
Jasmim's gray eyes met Luther's and both managed to get their swords firmly back in their grips. Although finding someone wearing the mask that that mysterious figure had brought memories that both would like to avoid and that made Luther feel his body shudder with anger.
Aware that it was too late to send his allies into hiding again, Poltergeist said:
"Ash, Isami, just watch my back, I'll kill them! I don't want it to end so quickly.”
Poltergeist pulled his other sword from its scabbard and the two emissaries could immediately feel the magical aura emanating from the blade. The enchantment of that type of sword was one well known to the emissaries: the absorption of magical energy.
“Come soon! Show me what you two know, "emissaries". Hope they don't die as fast as most!”, said Poltergeist.
“Elemental Art: Cyclone Attack!”, said Luther.
Manipulating the air around him, Luther sent a small but strong cyclone towards Poltergeist. The hunter managed, even if just barely, to dodge the attack and the cyclone destroyed the trunk of a tree.
“Elemental Art: Blade of Wind!”, said Jasmim.
The emissary's sword blade was surrounded by a layer of air that increased its reach and made it lighter.
Jasmim lunged at Poltergeist, determined to make him drop one of his swords, and Luther followed her. The movements of the three, it was something impressive to see, in terms of sword skills, their skills were balanced in that battle.
This is definitely not this bastard's first time against a Wind Emissary. He doesn't give any openings!, Luther thought as he continued to attack without sparing himself.
However, there was another enemy Luther was facing in that battle that grew stronger with every blow he landed: fatigue.
Luther managed to hit his enemy with the hilt of his sword, but Poltergeist stepped on Luther's overcoat causing him to lose his balance and almost fall.
The emissary conjured with all the energy he still had in a strong air mass towards Poltergeist:
“Elemental Art: Breath of Wind!”
Poltergeist stuck his sword into the ground to withstand the air pressure pushing him and Jasmim hit him with a kick in the face.
The hunter flinched momentarily, but returned to fight. He and Jasmim exchanged a series of quick sword slashes.
I really didn't think he would last this long, thought Jasmim.
The magical energy of the kitsune it was nearing at its end because she had used it to much to increase her speed.
“Aarrrgg!!!”, Luther lunged at Poltergeist with all his might.
When their blades met, the shock was so great that it threw them both backwards.
In that short interval, something that surprised everyone present happened. In the middle of that battlefield, a portal of flames appeared that disappeared shortly after a man fell.
The man screamed scared getting off the body that had fallen, his vision was blurred and when looking around for someone alive he came across Luther and Jasmim who looked at him confused with what was happening. Portals were extremely rare, and because they were difficult to control, they still did not transport living beings.
"Please help me...", said the gray haired man.
“What is that? An ally of yours?!”, said Poltergeist, “Isami, kill him.”
For a moment, it looked like Isami's black eyes glowed red. In the blink of an eye, he stepped forward upon hearing Poltergeist's order to end the intruder's life in the ongoing conflict.
Jasmim rushed to stop Isami.
“No!”, said Jasmim.
The emissary managed to stop the scythe blade from reaching its target and the force of her sword meeting Isami's blade was so intense that sparks came out.
Poltergeist, taking advantage of the fact that Jasmim was busy, moved to attack her, but Luther managed to outrun the hunter by putting himself in his path.
“Don't think for one moment that I'm going to let you hurt her!”
Luther strained his sword further to withstand the pressure his opponent was putting on him in order to remove him from his path.
“I still have to watch out for the other hunter, dammit! I have to think of something fast. We are at a disadvantage here and even with the time we are taking, the others may not arrive in time”, thought Luther looking at the elf hunter who was still standing there just watching the combat.
"Aren't you going to use any magic?", said Isami.
The masked man increased his strength making Jasmim slide backwards, while trying hard not to give in.
Jasmim tried to retreat to get space to attack Isami, but he kept advancing without giving her time to recover, and finally managed to hit her in the face with the handle of his scythe, causing her to fall unconscious.
Luther's hands weakened and Poltergeist got space to attack Luther who defended while trying to get away from his opponent to reach thekitsune.
“Jasmine!”, Luther said.
I can't let anything happen, not to her. This is all my fault, Luther thought when he saw that Isami was going towards Jasmim to execute her.
“Where is all the confidence from before?!”, said Poltergeist.
Poltergeist's sword strikes were almost reaching their target.
“You look like a swordsman's apprentice defending himself. Aren't you worried about dying anymore!?”, said the hunter.
Though Poltergeist was shouting to urge the emissary on, to Luther the hunter's voice was just a distant echo. The only sound he heard at that moment was Isami's blade cutting the wind and heading towards Jasmim.
However, there was someone who was being ignored in that fight, someone who looked at Isami with his eyes glowing ruby red. The gray haired man who had been protected by the emissary was about to show that ignoring him could have been a fatal mistake for Isami.
