Attorney Shim Jae-hyun discussed this with his client and her family. He spoke of the pros and cons of settling with the doctor and the Han family. Lee Kaycee vaguely listened to what was happening in the room; her stomach knots by the sudden life-altering change that gave a whole new meaning to who she was. Her parents expressed their desire for a grandchild but were inclined to the idea of termination before birth.
Lee Kaycee twisted her fingers at the nerve-wracking situation. She tried to decide what to do when she heard a voice saying, “Miss. Lee, I’m sorry for what I did to you; in my arrogance, I’ve stolen what could have been the best part of your life. Please accept my sincere apology; whatsoever you decide to do, I will wholly respect it.”
Han Jiho bowed before the woman was pregnant with his child; he and his family knew that Lee Kaycee had yet to terminate the unborn child, and their lawyer advised against letting the other party know of what could be considered a weakness.
Lee Kaycee looked up to see a man resembling a fashion model; she could tell he was intriguing. When he raised his head, their eyes met. They could not look away from each other.
Han Jiho felt a catch in his breath when looking into the liquid brown pools that are Lee Kaycee’s eyes. He was suddenly jolted to the present by the voice of Shin Soo-ah, “Don’t be mistaken, brother Jiho is just being kind. In the end, I’m the one who will marry him, not you!”
Shin Soo-ah angrily blurted out her thoughts while facing Lee Kaycee squarely; the Han couple appeared visibly uncomfortable by the outburst but chose not to say a word. Han Jiho taken by surprise at the attitude of Shin Soo-ah said, “Soo-ah, I’ve never once seen you as anything but my sister. If how I acted towards you has led you to believe otherwise. I am sorry.”
The room became deathly silent such that if a pin had fallen, they would have heard; the door opened a man that looked like Han Jiho walked in, “I just finished classes; I hope I haven’t missed much,” said Han Jisu airily.
Embarrassed by the rejection of her one-sided love Shin Soo-ah ran out of the room with tears in her eyes.
When Kaycee missed her period after a visit to the doctor’s office for a pap smear, she dismissed it as stress-related; when the third month was around the corner. Her monthly visitor was strangely absent, and that was when Kaycee knew that it had gone beyond stress. Worried that something didn’t seem right, a trip to her local drug store and two lines on the absorbent stick from the pregnancy kit sent her world crashing down.
Jiho believed in the noblesse duty of showing kindness and being selfless by offering to be an anonymous sperm donor without prior knowledge of his ultra-conservative affluent family. All hell breaks loose when his identity is no longer a secret, thanks to medical misconduct.
