With the calm breeze from the forest, everyone was even more tired, but when they arrived at the place where they were camped, something surprised Jinn, Kira and Lia.
“Where are the bodies?! We killed half the group that came here!”, said Jinn.
"Make sure they didn't take anythng from us”, Luther said.
"No, apparently nothing's missing", said Lia after they'd checked everything. "Let's pack up and go."
"They just wanted to take their companions and put them to rest..." Castiel said, seeming to be far away.
He needs rest, thought Jasmim.
However, something caught the attention of the kitsune on Castiel's left arm. Jasmim saw through the tear in his shirt sleeve a part of the rune he was wearing.
It's not the rune of a fire emissary, this rune is… That should be impossible!, thought Jasmim.
"Now that everything is packed, let's go!" I really need a good night's sleep”, Luther said once everything was packed away.
"That's because you're not carrying any luggage", Jinn said in a low voice.
"I heard that, huh!"
"I don't know what you're talking about…”
"When do you men start to mature?" Lia said.
“I think those are just legends, Lia”, said Kira.
“Our! I can't believe what I'm hearing”, Jinn said.
Castiel, who was just watching the situation, let out a laugh that ended up infecting everyone and Luther was happy that he was less scared than he appeared before.
The group wandered through the forest for some time, looking for a distant place to rest, as everyone was very tired and if it weren't for security, any placewould have served for them.
When they noticed that there were some moon deer (different from common deer, they were nocturnal, had three horns, huge canine teeth and completely white eyes) wandering along the path, they realized that the hunters were not nearby and decided to camp near a lake.
Once they had set up camp again, Lia made her tea again for everyone to drink around the fire. The tea was made with a special herb, discovered by the children of the forest, which aided in body recovery and magical flow, and for some the spirit itself.
Although shy about it, Lia took great pride in tea brewing skill, it was one of the things she valued, out of all the grueling training she had had to be a good noble woman. Jasmim, knowing this very well, never missed an opportunity to extol her abilities, a simple gesture that made Lia very happy.
“Lia, as always your tea is amazing! I'm already starting to feel a lot better!”, said Jasmim.
“Thanks Jasmim, after everything that's happened today, I thought it would be great to just drink something hot before we went to sleep. Especially with today's icy wind”, said Lia.
"You're very kind, Lia," said Kira.
Luther, after what happened, was all the way rethinking how he had acted. For him this was a common exercise that was even encouraged by his master, however there were times when he ended up taking it literally, torturing himself much more than learning from his mistakes.
“I'm sorry, this whole situation only happened because of my recklessness. In the end I just ended up helping them carry out their plan to outnumber us”, Luther said.
“Even though they had a good strategy, they failed Luther. Don't worry. They were also wrong to underestimate us,” said Kira.
“But…”
“Luther, we are emissaries and warriors of the wind clan, this is not the first time we have taken that risk, nor will it be the last. In the end, what matters is that we live to see another day”, Lia said.
“The only thing that pissed me off during the incident was that ex-Templar kid playing with us. It was like to him, we were just a bunch of mercenaries coming from nowhere”, said Jasmim.
“Well, at least at the end of the day, we already have someone responsible, or rather, responsible for the murders of magic users in Port Strong. Now that we know who the leader is, it's no wonder they're killing their targets so easily. As far as I know, nobody in that town stands a chance against them”, Luther said.
Jinn looked at the fire flames that reflected in his brown eyes and threw a little more wood to keep the flames burning. Hearing about people like Poltergeist filled him with contempt and anger.
"A bunch of cowards, led by an even bigger coward!" Magic users without a rune to use elemental magic or any training make themselves easy targets”, said Jinn.
"The worst thing was seeing one of the hunters wearing one of those masks", said Jasmim.
“The one from the Moon Scythe Sect?!”, Kira said.
“Try…”
"Why would anyone use that damn thing, knowing everything it represents?", Lia said.
"I don't know, I think in the end for some instilling fear is more important than anything else", Luther said as he put his hand under the scar above his eye.
For a moment everyone was silent, as that subject reminded everyone of why they were taking a "vacation" from their duties in the Wind Clan, until Kira broke the silence by bringing up the subject with Castiel who was quietly drinking his tea saying:
"Castiel, you look our age, where are you from?"
“And I do not know. I've been trying to remember things on the way here, but I don't know where I came from or how I ended up here”, Castiel said.
"So the only thing you remember about yourself is your name?"
”Yes.”
“That magic you used was very powerful. Are you a Fire Emissary? said Jasmim, taking advantage of the gap created by Kira.
“I don't know. I'm sorry,” Castiel said.
"Do you mind showing your rune?", Jasmim pointed to the position where the rune was on Castiel.
Lia e Luther thatthere were sensing something strange in the magic aura, they wait anxiously for Castiel who innocently lifts his shirt sleeve revealing the rune.
“Impossible!”, Jinn snapped.
"How can he have this rune being human or at least appearing to be?", Lia said in a low voice.
That explains why I was feeling that strange aura coming from him, thought Lia.
Jasmim and Luther's suspicions were confirmed, however, the rune that Castiel possessed could only be carried by members of a specific race and this race was extinct for a long time.
Noting the looks of fear and apprehension from everyone, Castiel began to get agitated, taken by concerns and said:
"Is that a bad thing?! I will die?! Am I some kind of monster?!”
"Easy, easy, Castiel", Luther approached Castiel in a calm voice and looked directly into his eyes, “You are not alone, there is no need to be afraid, we are here with you.”
“You are not a monster,” said Jasmim.
Castiel calmed down and the atmosphere calmed down again, but the group knew that whatever the secret was behind the rune and Castiel's memories was something that had the potential to change the world.
