I awoke to a familiar - pleasant smell

  Alferd’s pancakes sizzling in the pan... 

I knew his presence a mile away and yet was so, so happy he was right by my side...

My face flushed and I bit my lip.

I couldn’t get my head around the fact that we somehow ended up living in the same house, sleeping in the same room. Thank god it wasn’t the SAME BED!!!!!

I loved this perfect peace we could have now

and all the special things we could enjoy, just the two of us.

Like being in a play. 

A story of our - stranger - lives where nothing had to be too serious. 

Theatre was something we both cherished. We loved to sit and read , as we never could watch, the childhood tales - apparently it was childish for a roughly 15 or 16 year old to enjoy these stories so fondly but it was just the two of us, so that didn’t matter. 

It was us against the world.

It was our little story. And all the thoughts in our heads. 

I wouldn’t be surprised if we were in a story

a true tale of this mad world! 

But that’s just stupid... right? 

I figured it be better to be productive. After I spent nearly one 48th of my day staring at the ceiling and all the messily placed glow-in-the-dark stars. I finally opened the door...

‘’Melisa how would yah like your - undoubtedly delicious - pancakes?“ Alfred asked, a perfect imperfectly perfect grin on his face. He still had a slight bed head and his long fuzzy streak of hair on the left side of his face was curled around his ear instead of covering his - now obvious - scar. He had them everywhere but that was definitely the most painful and the clearest of them all. 

How many times I dreamed I'd known him sooner, how many times did I wish I hadn't been so harsh in the beginning - the first time we met -  when he was already suffering so much...

''Empty world to Melisa,'' 

he popped my bubble of thought, all I felt was wanting to get closer to him, to make him feel safe. 

“Crispy please,’’ I smiled and waited for the flour and sugar and egg and the ‘special ingredient’ that had this unique fragrance that made me feel safe. It always made it taste better and I waited 'till the batter was fried on the rusty pan and the calm smile that Alferd put before telling me,

“Princess Mellissa of nowhere, Your meal is made and ready to eat!” He would say with a goofy ‘poshest’ accent he could make and give me a little wink. 

I giggled “Well knight Alferd of nowhere, Thank you very much!” I said in my poshest accent and we both burst out  laughing, me blushing. 

He was so playful, 

and fun, 

and literally the kindest person I had ever known.

It was only about time before I started liking him.
