Whether it was the people going back and forth, the merchants advertising their wares, the wagons being pulled, or the elegant buildings with their light colors, Castiel looked at everything like a child excited about a new toy.
Right, this is a small town, it looks so cozy, thought Castiel.
Kira watched Castiel entertained by his reaction, because for her, who has already visited several cities, especially in the last year, Port Strong it was just an ordinary small town with nothing outstanding.
Jasmim noticed some curious eyes on them as they walked, but it didn't bother her, as there was no way a large group like theirs could arrive armed in the city without at least drawing a little attention. Especially considering what was going on in the city.
Luther noted a few missing persons posters and a few memorials made with pictures, flowers, and candles for the departed. The city was busy and the morning was beautiful, but its wounds were there.
Jasmim approached a stall where there was a sixty-year-old man selling various types of bread.
“Good day, sir! I would like to know where I could find the governor of the city?”, said Jasmim.
“A children of the forest, what a rarity to see in this city, although they have a bestial nature, they are one of the kindest types of people I met when I was young. Maybe the beautiful young kitsune could help me by charging for some goods”, said the seller.
"Lia, please…”
Lia stopped beside Jasmim with a serious expression. The seller, intimidated by the elf, smiled trying to ease the tension.
Perhaps it was unwise of me to push a sale, thought the seller.
Lia, after a minute of silence, which completely terrified the old man, who had already imagined her killing him thousands of times, pulled out a small bag with some coins and took out a silver coin to hand to the seller.
With so much good stuff, it was hard to choose what to buy, thought Lia.
"I'll have two sweet rolls with lemon sauce," said Lia.
"I'll give you two more as a courtasy!", said the seller while hastily packing the order.
“Thanks?”
Lia was confused by the seller's reaction as it was not his intention to intimidate him and Jinn and Luther tried to hide their laughter.
"Could you give us the information now?", said Jasmim gently.
“Of course! You can find the governor in his mansion in the main square of the city, you just need to follow the fourth street. There's no mistaking it, his mansion is in the square at the end of this street.”
“Thank you very much for your help, you are very kind!”
“Tasty!”, said Lia into her second loaf.
“He was glad that I managed to make something to his liking, ma'am”, said the old man, still afraid of Lia.
Castiel was amused by the situation, for him, Lia wasn't as intimidating as she had seemed to him the night before, now that she didn't have her spear pointed at him. In fact, she reminded him of someone, but he didn't know who.
He was glad that everyone in the group had decided to help him, however, he wondered how long this help would last. Still remembering the face everyone made upon seeing his rune.
I shouldn't have shown it. What if I'm going to bring some risk to them? Why can't I remember anything? Am I dangerous? I think I'm going to end up causing problems for all of them!, thought Castiel.
As they walked, Jinn noticed that Castiel was falling behind and warned Kira who came back to get him.
"Are you okay, Castiel?", Kira said as she approached him.
"Sorry I got distracted...", said Castiel.
Kira noticed that Castiel's hand was on the red ribbon she had given him to cover the tear in his sleeve and consequently his rune.
“Castiel, you need not worry. Just don't let anyone see it”, Kira said.
"I know, people have to think I'm a Fire Emissary," Castiel said, repeating what he'd been told before they left the camp.
“Look, I know this must be uncomfortable for you, but I assure you that as soon as we solve what we have to do here, we will help you. You're not alone, understand?”
“Thanks, Kira.”
“You’re welcome. Now stop with that downcast look and let's get going.”
The emissary pulled Castiel by the hand and started to catch up with the group. Castiel felt reassured by Kira's warm smile, realizing that he was in good company and that he didn't have to worry about them abandoning him.
Kira, looking back again to make sure her suspicions were correct, found that they were indeed being followed. From the uniform they wore, Kira knew they were the local police. She continued smiling, pretending not to have noticed the police.
Jasmim looked at Kira and Castiel as they approached, still holding hands.
“Everything is fine?”, said Jasmim.
"Castiel was just distracted, so I had to go back for him", said Kira, letting go of Castiel's hand.
"That was my fault, I'm sorry", said Castiel.
“No need to apologize, it's okay”, Jinn said.
Lia, seeing that the street was empty and only a few curious residents were peeping through the window, went close to Luther and said:
“This is starting to look like an ambush.”
“I really hope not. But let's stay alert”, Luther said, "Looks like we have more company…"
In front of them, there was an elf with short green hair, a turquoise dress and a burgundy overcoat on top of her horse, and two more policemen were also on horseback accompanying her.
