The elf stopped in front of the group of emissaries, one of the policemen dismounted from his horse and helped her down.
Luther came forward to meet the elf, bowed briefly and said:
“Finally, we came to the attention of the nobility. Luther Levisay, at your service.”
Himiko was surprised by the emissary's attitude, as she believed that when he felt cornered he would behave more cautiously and restrained or even aggressively, contrary to the relaxed behavior he was showing.
She smiled and offered her hand to Luther who kissed it.
"We have a perfect gentleman here. I'm Himiko Kami”, said the noblewoman.
"I'd like to make it clear that me and my friends are only here to talk to the governor, our goal is not to cause trouble for the city, in fact it's the opposite", Luther said.
“Don't worry, emissary. I just came to accompany you to the governor's house.”
Himiko started walking and the emissaries followed her. Most of the police stayed behind, only the two who accompanied Himiko remained.
Luther introduced all the group members to Himiko who politely greeted everyone as she walked alongside Luther.
Castiel didn't exactly know why, but he had the feeling that he needed to be cautious around Himiko even though her gentle smile and elegant posture said the opposite. He thought about saying something to Jinn or Kira who were closer, but he stopped himself.
Jasmim, on the other hand, wondered if the governor had sent his daughter to analyze them.
"Lady Kami, are you from the governor's family?" said Jasmim.
“No, I'm from the secondary family”, Himiko said.
Castiel confused by Himiko's answer looked to Kira for help remembering what that meant and Kira said:
"Think of it as a system of ranking that nobles have to “organize” themselves according to power, influence, and money of course. The main family usually commands a region. From my own experience, I advise you not to worry about it, this is a complicated environment, which is not fun to be a part of.”
Castiel couldn't remember whether or not he had any kind of experience with this sort of thing. From the way he was dressed, I was pretty sure he wasn't from humble beginnings. Even though it was still the beginning of the day, the pile of questions Castiel had about himself only increased.
As they approached the governor's mansion gate, Himiko stopped and grabbed Luther by the arm.
“Before we go in, don't waste your breath talking any more than necessary. The cards have already been dealt”, Himiko said.
“What are you talking about?!”, Luther said.
"Relax Emissary, you'll understand soon enough."
The noblewoman just followed the path to the gate where the butler was waiting for them.
The governor's mansion had extensive grounds full of trees and flowers selected by the family itself, so the colors matched the light browns and whites of the house. Upon entering the house, the Butler who introduced himself as Blecor requested that they leave all luggage and weapons in the entrance hall.
The interior space was more rustic, and there were some weapons decorating the walls, as well as portraits of family members, most of whom were elves. As the elves came from a culture that greatly valued strength and glory in battle, it was quite common to see.
They continued walking to the back garden, which left everyone awestruck by the beauty of the place, looking more like a sanctuary than a garden.
The maid of the house, seeing the guests arriving, took the couple of brothers who were playing with the butterflies by the hand, the governor and his wife continued to sit on the bench next to a fountain.
The governor had the body most like that of a common elf. He was tall and robust, with broad shoulders that helped convey the idea of strength. Plus your hair is dark as night with a few streaks of gray.
His wife, also aeleven, she had a more delicate appearance common to those who grew up far from her homeland, her eyes were blue like the sea and the orange tone of her hair was similar to that of the leaves of the trees.
Blecor bowed briefly and introduced the newcomers by saying:
“Lord and Lady Damaris, here are the emissaries we were told would come. They are also accompanied by Miss Kami. Representatives are Luther Levisay and Jasmim Takahashi.”
Warned?!, thought Jinn.
“Welcome!”, said the governor.
"Blecor, bring them something to eat", said the Lady Damaris.
The butler left the place, Jasmim took the initiative to address the reason why they went to the governor's house and said:
“I would like to thank you for receiving us so well in your home!”
The emissary bowed briefly and everyone else did the same, except for Himiko.
"We apologize for coming so early, with our weapons and luggage, but after the attack we suffered yesterday, we needed to act with a certain level of urgency", said Jasmim.
"You speak very well, Emissary Takahashi, I would even dare to say that there is a bit of nobility in you", said the governor.
“Very perceptive of you, sir, I come from a noble family.”
“Interesting, I wonder what fate has done to you to end up here instead of taking care of the responsibilities of someone in your position. Anyway, let's get to the subject you would like to address.”
Himiko, who had been silent until that moment, sitting on one of the benches with her arm crossed, sighed upon hearing the governor's words and thinking aloud said:
“Finally…”
Miss Damaris scolded Himiko with a glare, however she only pretended not to notice. Luther, uncomfortable with the governor's comment, said:
“We'd like to request assistance in dealing with hunters in the region. Our greatest need is not people, but information about the region so we don't end up being killed by them. With a few policeman, we can put an end to the hunters who have been killing magic users in your city.”
"Half the cases are just disappearances, emissary, I don't see the need for that", said the governor.
“I'm sorry, but I don't believe you really think it's just disappearances.”
“I still have to deny your request.”
Jinn clenched his fists in irritation and Castiel thought for a moment that he was going to do something, while Kira looked at Lia confused by the governor's statement. Lia stared coldly at the governor.
He answered that too quickly, there's something wrong here!, thought Lia.
Himiko just rolled her eyes, bored and Luther, without giving up, insisted saying:
“Governor, people are dying in your city. I can guarantee you that the hunters won't stop, we reduced their numbers very little yesterday. They can still cause a big hit here in Port Strong.”
“As you said, emissary, this is my city. I know you wind emissaries believe that Clan Aerius rules the country, but this is an internal matter!”, said the governor.
The governor motioned with his hand for the maid from earlier to approach. Obeying the order, the red haired elf walked towards the governor.
"Ena left earlier today to continue negotiations with the hunters", said Lady Damaris. “Port Strong is safe, emissaries.”
Luther faced Himiko who smiled at him and finally the emissary understood what the noblewoman meant before they entered.
He didn't welcome us to listen to us, he only welcomed us to throw in our faces that he doesn't need our help and send us away, thought Luther.
