The presentation was long. They did a preliminary analysis of the soil and sent people to collect information about the main products and present demands are. They cross-referenced the explored plants and derivated products with their own catalogue; with that, they selected the ones with the best potential. They still needed the answer from duke Llywellyn Conwenna to decide on the exploration plan. Taking that into account, the conversation changed to plants they could produce on a smaller scale and that could resist the extreme temperatures in the Northeastern territories. The prince's residence comes with a medium-sized area that can be explored for agricultural purposes. Nevertheless, it was mostly abandoned during the king’s ownership, and the land deteriorated with the disuse. Another problem is the famine and lack of produce in the North. All the northern territories have struggled with plants that are not fit to the climate change, the loss of fertile land to the beasts and constant conflicts.
“Within such a short time, we could only select a few that we have already been working on. Our work with wheat is still not ready, maybe we could speed it up with more personnel and capital”. Mrs. Wa said looking at the prince.
“If you can give us an estimative of the developing time and expected result, we may be able to compromise with some personnel, and even send someone to gather people from Hodžic Academy”. The prince answered.
“We sent a message to the branch families and the other northeastern nobles. Depending on the predictable results, they can elevate their investment up to 100 crystals. They are also sending experts to the Laukkanen residency, they will meet us there as soon as we leave the state”. Cerys complemented.
The Moonrise Caravan decided to leave for the Northeastern territory to deepen their research. Still, some personnel will stay in the state to collect material and conduct further analysis. Also, if they can guarantee the cooperation of the Conwenna state, they will have immense territory to develop their research. In the contract the princess offered to the prospectus duke, the Moonrise Caravan secured their right to explore the land and to opine on the model of development, techniques and the explored plants. Also, the Conwenna will have to build them a research facility with an annual budget revised and observed by a council appointed by the Conwenna State and the Moonrise Caravan among experts in their corresponding areas.
“Well, we would also like to introduce our own variation of glycine. It’s popular in the Fire Continent and could be used for human and animal nourishment. We need further testing, but we believe it could adapt well to the Northeastern climate. And the production per square meter of this plant is one of the best. We also developed many products, based on the food eaten on the fire continent, with long conservation periods and wide variety”. Mrs. Wa added, while her assistants brought some products for savoring.
“Will we be able to use the Conwenna territory to export it to the Shah Empire or to introduce those plants to the Empire itself?”, asked Mrs. Amin.
“The economic blockage established by the king is rigid. We need to find good means of transportation and a house to support our economic trade. We’ve got in contact with Åström and Koskinen, however both act mostly in the Northeastern area. House Koskinen have some interesting vehicles, but none present the desirable performance. We shall contact the Houses Lončar and Blumenthal, that manage the trade routes in the South, but right now they are beyond our reach. But I sent Helena to investigate a promising inventor that might be our solution to a better vehicle that may available the commerce between Glæma and Shah”. Said Master Sybil.
The promising inventor was a young commoner working with the potential of magic stones to produce energy. She had no formal education and worked in a small warehouse on the outskirts of Hatel, a small town near the Kovač territory. Even before all this arrangement started, this 16-year-old, Mileva Ateljević, was under Sybil observance. The Kovač house owns and explores many mines, and Master Sybil believes this girl is the key to rise the family capital. But this child needs to complete her research for it to have any value.
“Even if the glycine commerce is not available between countries, we shall work with the Shah Empire to establish production in their territory. But let me assure you, this is not our only plan. We analyzed the pharmaceutical potential of some plants, and included nightberry, northern cumin and our own variations of Juniper, common Nettle and Vervain. And, if you look in the annex, we also added some plants with a potential for military use: stink bush can produce a bomb that can stun and make people faint; our henbane variation has no hallucinogenic effects and can produce far-sight potions; our datura version is not poisonous and can be used to tame animals. In the second annex, we have our study in magical plants. Our conclusions are not complete, but we selected the three with the best investment potential - Narcissus speculum, Chrysanthemum immortales and Myosotis memini. According to our schedule, the research on the magical plants will be finished in three to four months, and the preliminary results are already positive.” Mrs. Wa complemented.
“All of this sounds really good, but I think we should go to the next part”, Mrs. Amin interrupted, “We got enough flora, now we need some fauna. We agreed to go to the Laukkanen territory with the promise that we will have animals that we can use and export”.
The Amin didn’t have much land but were really interested in taming new animals.
“Well, as we said before, our research is still lacking, but we’ve got some interesting animals. We selected five animals that could be raised both in the north and south: the mist bison, the god moose, the flower deer and the phantom and sandstorm gazelles. All of those are considered magical or mystical creatures and have been treated as beasts, mostly because no one has been able to tame them. We successfully located the habitats, and we’d like to proceed with our plan. All those animals are wild and live in groups. Therefore, we’d need a small troop if we wish to approach any of those animals”. Mrs. Wa told us.
“I’ve heard of the mist bison and god moose. Both are tricky, to say the least. We would periodically hear about incidents with those two. Are you sure there is a possibility to tame them?” Marquis Laukkanen asked.
“There is a lot of potential. Although many of those creatures have caused problems, none of them are violent or have some ill intent against humans. They are mostly pacific, and only follow instinct while dealing with it. Hence, potential”. Mrs. Wa answered.
“I see... And you believe we can use them as we use horses?” Mrs. Amin asked.
“I’m not sure, but I can think of many uses for them, and for their special abilities”.
“What about the creatures you wish to explore in the North?”, Marquise Laukkanen asked.
“We want to research the destroyer lynx and the phantom fox. We know there are a lot of problems related to those two, and they don’t like people, or other animals. And they are great at hiding and running. But if we can tame those creatures... Well, let’s just say it would be a good thing”.
As they explained, the Destroyer Lynx, or Tartareus lynx, have adaptable claws that can change its density, structure and other attributes to slice and destroy anything. They have structures in their back and tail like thorns with similar qualities, that are also used to show their mating capabilities and protect from predators. They may be the only creatures that can fight a Terror, the beasts that are conquering the northern lands. The phantom fox, Phantasma vulpes, manipulate their body density, being able to phase through solid objects, including things thrown at them. However, this ability makes it almost impossible to find or capture them.
Although those two were a great beginning for their objective of defeating the monster waves, it was a beginning, nonetheless. Wa Yuexi was interested in the northern creatures, and the Laukkanen, with the support of the related families, decided to invest in this research to stop the monster attacks and regain territory.
