Also known as a toadfish, these large headed fish have a series of bioluminescent photophores on their undersides as well as on their sides and face. While that is pretty fancy for an otherwise drab looking fish, their real rock star moment is during mating season when the males migrate from the deep up to the inter-tidal zone and try to out hum each other in the shallows. The cacophony is so loud that folks living on or near the water on the west coast of the US and Canada get to experience a late night vibratory event that has caused quite the hub-bub in both Seattle and San Francisco.
