While it definitely doesn’t hurt, running or doing squats has never given me a purpose in life or offered something to live for. I’m tired of being told to exercise more because I used to work out everyday for years and it never made my negative thoughts go away; I was still severely depressed and found it hard to experience joy during those years - and still today. And, while exercise doesn’t hurt your mental state and is good for your overall health and is enough for some, I wish care teams would put those big fancy psychology degrees to use and make their brains work a little bit harder to try and suggest something that takes the conversation somewhere productive cognitively rather than trying to slap a one-size-fits-all diagnosis on everyone’s unique mental issues.
