‘Cause I was a dreamer
A dandelion prophet
Wherever the wind blows
Well, that’s where I’m headed
Low Roar - Dreamer
I didn’t choose to be a writer. Actually, I don’t think of myself as a writer, I don’t even like the idea of being a writer.
What I am is a storyteller. I start imagining things, people, places inside my head, out of nowhere, until they become stories. I might be on the verge of maladaptive daydreaming, honestly speaking.
I get my inspiration from the smallest things: most of the time it’s music or anime, and it might come from looking at beautiful scenery, from traveling, from hearing people talk, from finding an oddly-shaped stone on the sidewalk.
I have a lot of fun evolving those ideas into something more complex, especially when they start changing shape in the middle of the writing process: I swear, none of the stories I write fully follow the timelines I make before writing, they get lost somewhere else halfway through. And for similar reasons, the biggest disservice I could do to my stories would be forcing them into just one fixed shape: writing, the one that’s easiest for me. Some I want to turn into comics, others into videogames, and for some I think anime would do them more justice. No matter how hard it’ll be, I’ll try my best to bring them out there, that’s my dream.
But for now, what I decided to do is write, so this is Dreamer, a series of short stories. Comedy, romance, surrealism, supernatural, daily lives and weird coincidences. These are just some of the things that I wanted to write. I don’t take myself too seriously, and my stories reflect that: authentically honest, authentically dumb, authentically lovely. So authentic that you should thank me for scrapping the draft of a Bocchi mode introduction inspired by Bo Burnham’s song “Comedy”, it was getting a bit out of hand.
This is a new beginning for me, after battling with myself and cleaning the walls from the shit after it hit the fan, with my anxiety that fuels my procrastination, and my procrastination that fuels my anxiety. I hope you’ll have fun while you have a look inside the world I created in my head and shaped into the country of Sogna.
