They both were drinking kompot. Pavel had never actually liked it. But this drink differed from the one which was given to him in the orphanage. It had always been cooked of dried fruits with too much sugar in it back there. Cooks from the orphanage had always put too much sugar just everywhere including tea of course. Kompot from the canteen was boiled out of fresh fruits and berries. And Pavel even started thinking that it tasted good. He still didn't like it much though. The reason Pavel took kompot was that he just didn't want tea or coffee because it was rather hot outside. But aside of those there was no drink he actually liked in the canteen.
Pavel was rather surprised and astonished... by that woman. He could have expected such behavior from some kids in the orphanage. He had seen things quite similar to spitting into someone's food before. But Pavel was sure that adult married people don't behave themselves this way. Well, he had probably mistaken.
Luckily for now Pavel had something else to concentrate on. Like that spirit of disease.
“This kind of spirits are usually just appear in this world naturally,” said Timofei. “The magic of our clan head prevents it. And her magic also killing them if they appear. That's why I was confused – this spirit shouldn't exist here.”
“That's all because of that Tamara's doings,” summarized Pavel.
“Yeah,” agreed Timofei. “Her curse which had been done with strong emotions was the reason. Well, the spirit could had appeared without her. She might be the reason it survived here and got more powerful.”
“How powerful?” asked Pavel.
“Well, there are different symptoms. And because of that I can assume the spirit of disease is rather strong and getting stronger. It's still pretty easy to cope with though. Especially for magicians. But the sooner we destroy it the better. This spirit can cause health problems for a lot of people. It feeds with people's misery and getting even stronger with every ill person. The problems it can cause will be getting more severe. For now the spirit can not kill a human. But it will be capable when some time pass. We won't let this happen, of course.”
“Do we need some help?”
“No,” answered Timofei. “We can deal with it ourselves. Actually I would do it just myself if you were not there. But you should learn to cope with spirits. Just like all magicians. That's a sort of basic part of the training. So you have nothing to worry about.”
“So that's not dangerous?” asked Pavel.
“Of course it is dangerous,” Timofei said. “All magic is extremely dangerous. And you should remember it and deal with it.”
He paused probably to let Pavel think about it. Then Timofei continued. “The spirit will fight back. And because that's the matter of life and death it will fight as strong as it can. There are multiple ways to cope with the spirit of disease. Different nations even made their own rituals for this matter. Strong magicians can destroy the spirits just intentionally with the power of their minds. But that's too much for you at least for now. That's why we'll perform simple ritual.”
Timofei told him about the ritual. Pavel's part of it sounded really simple. He was still worried though.
But he just couldn't screw up. Not now, at the moment when his newly found family looking at him and expecting him to do his best.
