With my sixth page on this new venture, I've finally started to get comfortable working in Manga Studio and drawing comics in general. This page is more lively and I'm realising that I've not quite hit the tone I want yet. When I tell this story, it's pretty funny, I play it for laughs. The comic version so far hasn't been as funny as it could be. The ox in the first panel is an improvement as is the energy in the middle panel and the massive chunk of text in the last panel. That caused me so challenges, I was originally going to have two panels on the bottom, but there was literally no room for Jack with all that text. When I tell the story, those come out very fast in one big bombastic blast.
Jack's hair in the middle panel was inspired by watching my son, who's hair inspired Jack's, swinging for the sky.
Monsters, fairies, wise old women and hapless young lads and lasses, wandering storyteller Bertram Talespinner shares his take on stories from near and far.
