Nononononono this can't happen! Witches have strived for good powers for a century! Nononono, I'm not evil! I will be disowned! I-I can't i- ill be executed! I hear a clunk from upstairs. Then I heard my father. “Amber? Is that you?” this can not be happening right now! If he finds out… I have to hide this. I throw my hat on top of the clock… there was no hiding my reddish hair. Besides, he was here. “Hey Amber, did you get your ability yet-” he stops. Realizing the carpet was ashes, my hair was a mess and so was the room. “Amber.” he says, putting on that serious tone of his. “What happened?” there was no use hiding it. So I decided to say… half the truth. “I got my ability, aaand ummmm yeah. I'm an illusionist like you!” That was the worst lie I have ever told. But who knows how dangerous this could be? My dad mumbles to himself with a look of pure horror on his face. “It's happening again…” he starts frantically sweeping up the ash that was once a carpet. I don't understand… what's happening again!? What is my dad not telling me…? “I-is this about mom?” I ask. He freezes.then turns to me. “ Amber, listen, you will soon find that out as you age but in the meantime you can not tell anyone about your ability.” “nobody?”I ask, as sorrow wells up inside of me. I think of prism. “ nobody.” he repeats. “It's too dangerous… Now get ready! It's a school day.”

I take my usual walk to school… I left my hat at home. Like my dad has said, nobody can know I even got my ability. I arrive to see Prism talking to one of the popular wizards. “Hey prism!” I shouted. She turns with a giant smile on her face, she has changed a lot. She still had her pale skin and short black hair… but now she was a witch. An official witch. She was adorned with pearls. There were pearls around her new floppy witch hat,her bracelet,the hem of her new dress and on a beautiful necklace. Her hat had a symbol of the sun in the middle of the bridge of pearls. Her hat was a shiny gold, a good omen. “AMBERRRRRRR!!!!!” Prism screamed as she ran towards me and suffocated me in a hug. She had a certain… glow about her today. “ Amber, I have SO MUCH to tell you!!! I am an elemental!!! I got the power of light!!!” “Wow” I said truthfully amused. Isn't that like, super rare?” “IT IS” she said beaming with pride “ and now everybody wants to be friends!” she dropped her voice to a whisper. “even  aziz.” she said blushing. Aziz was about our age if not a bit older. He was short,darker and had long black hair. “Ummm isn't he a love wizard?” I said a bit cautiously. “Yes.” prism said dreamily. “Why? He got his ability 3 months ago.” she spoke again. “Well I mean he has EVERY girl wrapped around his finger, don't you think it's just… manipulation?" I said "He could just be using you for your rare power.” prism looked hurt. I went too far. Prism shook her head and asked me about my ability. Probably trying to change the subject. I knew this time would come and I was dreading every second of it. “I- I didn't get it yet. I guess it's a malfunction.” prisms face fell. “Well that's a… shame.” It looked like she was about to say more, but luckily I got saved by the bell. The day dragged on and on. Prism kept sitting at the popular kids table while I sat alone and continuously was being made fun of for not getting an ability. On the walk home people in the streets made fun of my hair more than usual, considering it was twice as bright and twice as red. My dad continued to give me depressing talks about keeping my fire a secret and how to control it. And prism and I…slowly fell apart.This dragged on for a month or two when eventually, the day came. When all of us (mermaids,elves,witches,fairies)gather together in one of the environments… It's different each year and this year was in the forest. The fairies domain. And of course the entirety of our kind was invited. We were to all meet at the palace of the high witch and wizard so then every witch and wizard 15+ could all travel together. Safety reasons. It was a long journey, about an 8 hour walk. Every witch was exhausted. But then, we entered the forest.
