"These dictate what class you should be really in, besides stating your actual reason. The first year will be all about finding your niche in Singularities. If something goes wrong with the badges, it would mean you'd have to change classes."
"What badges can you collect?" asked Marta.
"Um. I don't have a paper with them, but stating some at the top of my mind... there are definitely badges for each subject, except for history, if I'm correct. There's definitely a sports badge, a library badge, a candle badge... there are 16. You also get one badge at the start."
"It looks like a sun." Juablo looked at his card.
"That's the sign of the A-classes. A sun, which shines on the ones who chose to take action in these newfound powers," commented Mari. "Anyways, I think that's all. This is the only class today, and you can go to your dorms or look around the school for now. It's up to you, but just don't stick your nose in too many places. You wouldn't want to get kicked out on the first day."
"Hm?" Paula squinted her eyes.
"Class dismissed, and welcome to Erra, guys. I hope we can have a good school year." finished Mari, as all the students stood up from their seats and made it out of the classroom. Lievpad looked back at the teacher one more time, as they caught eye contact.
The door closed.
"The newest student, Lievpad." thought Mari. "Milagro told me that he only recently developed a Singularity, so that's why he's here. I didn't think this would've been possible." Mari pushed himself away from the desk, as the chair he was on hit the wall behind him. He stared at the ceiling, blankly. "We've been tasked to walk around and see this school for ourselves a few days before the school year. Even if I know how to get around, this still feels like an unwelcome maze." he looked at the desk again, spotting a picture of him and the old class he used to teach.
The teachers at this school were once actual tutors, who taught students in other academies. However, once they've developed Singularities, due to the age group they were in, most of them were essentially forced to work here. Through contracts with SYSTA, four teachers with Singularities teach the four first-years at the academy. However, there is a PE teacher, without a Singularity.
Mari put the picture down, as he stood up. "Alright. That period of my life is over. I don't need to hold onto memories if the only thing they could bring me is pain." he walked to the door, opening it, as someone stood nearby.
"Oh?" Mari raised his voice. "You're a teacher, right?"
The guy in front of him turned, but as he was about to speak, he stopped, opening his mouth, shocked.
"Um... hi. We didn't get to see each other before the school year."
The guy gulped.
"I'm Mariano Kai. I teach the A-1 class, what about you?" Mariano stuck his hand out.
At that moment, the guy kneeled, kissing his hand.
"HUH?!" Mari was confused.
"Maria... what a beautiful name." the guy added. "You're an angel, sent from heavens to step on this earth, blessing pure little humans like me." he squeezed Mari's hand, grinding his teeth and looking at his face.
"Mmm..." Mari moved his hand back. "You know that... I'm a guy, right?"
"Hah." The man stood up. "That makes it even better."
Mari stepped back and shut the door to his class. "Wh--what--what---" he muttered to himself.
"By the way!" the man's voice could be heard through the windows, he sounded much more positive now. "I'm Fabio Sigula and I teach B-1! Off to a good year! Woohoo!" then, he walked away.
"Someone is already in love with me?" Mariano thought, squeezing his head.
Lievpad was standing near an information board, scanning the dorm's info.
"A-1 dorms..." he muttered. "Dorm one, Rico, Nivel and Che... Dorm two, Paula, Leira, Marta... Dorm three... ah." he pointed. "Me," he added.
"Oh hey! I'm in the same dorm as you!" a boy with black hair walked up to Lievpad.
"Hm?"
"I'm Ben Silva! From the same class!" he stuck his hand out, as Lievpad looked at it. "Isn't it exciting! Being here, at this new and inviting school! It's so cool!" he looked up, clenching his fist.
"Amigo, it's nothing but a school. It's not gonna be as fun as you're predicting." Juablo walked in from behind. "I'm also in the same dorm."
"Well, I think it's important to take what the headmaster told us and put it right into our hearts!" Ben put his hand on his heart. "It's the little things that matter, really."
"Hm..." Lievpad looked at the map.
"What?" Juablo smirked. "Are you gonna be so excited to study maths too, huh?"
"Yes, I love maths!" Ben raised his hand, as Juablo looked away.
"Rejire is also with us in the dorm," Lievpad added, turning around, as Rejire stood behind them, with his eyes half-open.
"Huh! Amazing! So cool!" Ben essentially ran into the dorm, as the door was barely opened. "This is so... schoolcore!"
The dorms were pretty spacious rooms, with four beds, which were placed on each side of the room, with two on the left, and one on the right and forwards from the door. There was a big table in the middle, with four chairs, a comfortable carpet, and a door to an average-looking bathroom, with a big mirror. There were also lots of other cool things in the room, like... windows.
"I'm so excited!" Ben tripped on his suitcase, falling onto his bed, before turning over and laughing.
"Seriously..." Juablo mentioned. "We had to use a map to find these dorms."
"It was so funny when you realized that they were in a completely different building," added Lievpad.
"Amigo, you didn't even laugh!"
"I laughed on the inside."
"Mmm..." Rejire stepped into the room, after them, and immediately lay on his bed, falling asleep.
Ben immediately began unpacking his suitcase, moving all of his stuff around the room, but in places that they wouldn't invade others. Lievpad sat down on his bed, and opened his suitcase, taking out his clothes and calmly putting them into the closet.
"I don't get you guys, unpacking already?!" Juablo smiled. "I'll just keep all of my stuff in this suitcase. I won't have to face the hassle of packing them in when the school year's gonna end."
"You know we're staying here for a year right?" asked Lievpad.
"Of course... I do!" Juablo looked away. "Okay, maybe you're right." he started unpacking the suitcase.
"At least I'm glad that they have a washing room here!" continued Ben.
"Huh? What, did you take a year's worth of underwear?" asked Juablo.
"Haha! Yes!" he responded.
"It was also very funny when we stumbled into the washing room on accident. You know, when we tried to find the dorms," added Lievpad.
"YOU DIDN'T LAUGH!" yelled Juablo. "Anyways..." Juablo sat on his bed. "I might just follow Rejire here, and go to sleep. Barely got any beforehand today."
Lievpad was looking at his phone, as Juablo peeked over.
"Amigo, wanna go to the cantine later?" asked Juablo.
"Hm?" Lievpad looked up. "Maybe."
"I wonder what they serve there." Juablo looked up.
"Matcha and yerba mate." Ben responded. "I looked into the precise feeding program beforehand!"
"MATCHA?!" Juablo raised his voice. "Screw sleeping, I'm gonna drink some of that!" he stood up, running out of the apartment.
"He'll probably get lost," commented Lievpad.
Rejire snoozed loudly, as Lievpad kept looking at his phone. Ben was almost done with the unpacking. He put the rest of his clothes underneath his bed (precisely, the hideous amounts of underwear) and lay on the bed, turning over to Lievpad.
"Um, hey." Lievpad put his phone down. "You seem to be well-informed about things at this school. I was wondering what Mari meant by 'the Sun'"
"You don't know?" Ben asked. "Each class represents something. Class A represents the Sun, which in return would mean life. People in this class are ones who plan to change something with their singularities in the future, with some ideas ahead already. What about you, Lievpad? What are you fighting for?"
Lievpad looked forwards, putting his hand on his knee. "I want to be the strongest. I want to keep growing strong."
"...and your Singularity is a part of that." smiled Ben. "Class B is the Moon, which would be the sign of Peace. While still working on their Singularities, the B students don't really know what they'll do in the future. They're fighting for inner peace with their Singularities."
"If Kohei isn't in class A, then he must be in class B." thought Lievpad. "When I saw him with his new Singularity, he was really proud."
"And you, Ben?" asked Lievpad. "You're in A-class, because..?"
"It's simple, Lievpad." Ben sat up. "I want to be reassured and reassure others of how humane Singularities really are, and how humanity should never bat an eyelid on their potential. It's mostly about happiness."
"It's a noble reason. I respect that," said Lievpad. "But I really don't know what you mean by humane."
"Well, everything that is human."
"Would you consider me that?"
"Why... why are you asking this question?" laughed Ben.
"Sorry."
"Anyways, finishing off. Class C is Ortu, and class D is Decursio. Class C means health, where your Singularity is tertiary, but you're still curious about them, not really planning on making a living out of it, though, and class D is the abundance of normality. Students there treat Singularities as just a part of them that they don't need to get rid of, but they don't want to work on it either. Essentially, a normal class with normal lessons, just at this academy." Ben stood up. "But you know, I'm really glad I'm in this class. Just seeing everyone around me, I know we could be great friends!"
"You're..." Rejire said, in a sleepy voice, rubbing his eye. "You want to be the class leader, don't you?"
"Hm." Ben smiled, putting his hands on his sides. "You're reading me like a book, Rejire! So cool!"
At night, Lievpad couldn't sleep. His thoughts circled around the place he was in, not letting him rest. He sat near the window, looking out of it, checking the empty grassy hills and spotting the forest nearby. The sounds of some insects or animals could be heard from the outside. Lievpad rested his head on his hands, which rested on his knee.
