Our journey now comes to Gigus, a cold exo planet located in the far reaches of the Kulpar system. Gigus is a small planet, approximately only 70% the size of Terra. Gigus, when viewed from Orbit looks dead, and grey. This is, however, an illusion, as the surface is always covered in thick layers of fog, and much of the vegetation has gone a dark green in colour. Once on the surface there is no sound other than the wind rustling small bushes and the trees and there is no life other than the vegetation which covers almost all of Gigus, except for the mountain range to the south. This eerie stillness has lead many of the more superstitious of the galaxy to believe that Gigus was cursed, and haunted by those who could not find rest after the end of their lives.
This is however, untrue, as the reason for Gigus's tense atmosphere is that all the life which did evolve went exinct except for one. The trees. The trees seem to resemble the pine trees of Terra, with much darker leaves and bark, seemingly standing at a much taller height on average. These trees are not individual entities, but are rather they are a collection of consciousnesses who operate as a single entity. A sort of mutual alliance based on a shared goal. This goal was largely unknown, but recent research indicates that these trees store knowledge. Exactly what knowledge is stored is unknown, as any attempt to extract data from the trees has resulted in failure. It seems that these trees don't want any other life form to set foot on Gigus at all. The reason for the extiction of all other life forms is theorized to be linked to the trees of Gigus.
The trees create dense clusters which are often referred to as "thinking grove," often in occuring in one of two area's. Between these groves there lies a variety of terrain, such as lakes, rivers, open plains, hills, and smaller groves of insentient trees. This landscape is dotted with shrubs and small plants who crawl along the group, at the feet of these towering giants. As mentioned beofre these thinking groves seem to cluster in two particular areas, one in the far north near the northern polar cap and one further south more close to the equator. Scans have indicated that the northern grove is much older than the group in the south, with the age of their cluster being estimated at nearly one billion years. Exactly what happened is unclear. The trees do no appear to be sentient, or have any interest in being sentient. They rather just listen, to extremely high frequency psychic waves of information which fly through the warp (More information on the Warp coming soon in a later installation). Through this unique feature they are able to abosorb knowledge from all over the known universe, this leads to the idea that perhaps these trees may possess knowledge which has been long lost to time.
These lonesome trees have created many questions for explorers and reseachers alike. What is their purpose? Are they sentient? Do they understand their environment? How do they survive? What is their biology like? These and more have baffled any civilizations who have come across them. It seemed that not even the horde could topple these ancient trees. The idea of semi-sentient data storing trees baffels the mind when thinking of the game of evolution, their very existance is a mystery. Perhaps some questions are fundamentally unanswerable.
