Read Rockin' Fangs! :: Track. 1 - Euphoria

Sunday, August 9th

It was one of the hottest summer nights. The air was sickeningly humid and mosquitoes were swarming, ready to prey on any unlucky soul who thought it’d be a good idea to take a walk this late. The hum of cicadas could be heard all down the block but they were hardly loud enough to rise above the Rock music blaring from Diamonds & Spades, a nightclub that was known for making local artists into celebrities.

If you happen to be lucky enough there may be a scouter or two in the crowd during the night you’re playing.

And if you were really lucky, like the Devil’s Four Angels then Diamonds & Spades would beg you to play every Friday night because the crowds love you.

And if you were Thomas James, TJ for short, you loved the crowds.

“You hear that Angels?!” Tommy yelled over the crowd’s cheering that didn’t seem to dim even when the door to their dressing room was shut tight, “That’s the sound of our last crowd out there!”

“I thought this was supposed to be motivational,” Toby frowned.

“Yeah, TJ. ‘Last crowd.’ Way to make it depressing,” Percy’s eyes were filled with amusement nonetheless, “let Delilah do the motivational speeches. She’s our mama.”

“Stop calling me that, you overgrown infant,” Delilah kicked Percy’s shin with her spiked boot making him yelp.

Tommy rolled his eyes, “fine. Was just trying something different.”

“Don’t quit your day job,” Percy teased and Delilah kicked him again.

“Alright,” Delilah started after Tommy had resigned to taking a seat and abandoning ever becoming a motivational speaker, “this may be our last show together but damnit it will be our best! We are going to go out there and make them remember Devil’s Four Angels for years to come! And when Percy and I finally reemerge from the depths of hell-“

“College,” Percy coughed making a few laughs circle the room.

“They’ll remember the name. It’ll be like we never even left!” Delilah smiled, “Now who’s ready to make this the best damn performance we’ve ever done?!”

The room erupted in a loud ‘we are’ followed by hyped-up howls, mainly from Percy, Delilah, and Tommy. Toby was more the quiet smiling type who was perfectly content watching his outgoing friends bubble with excitement.

The music from the band before them finally came to an end and the announcer’s voice rang through the speakers, “Ladies, gentlemen, and folks, that was S.O.U.L for you! Let’s give them another round of applause!”

The crowd erupted with noise.

“It’s finally the moment you’ve all been waiting for! You folks have picked a very lucky night to come here. After three consecutive years, this group has never failed to leave a crowd stunned by their spectacular performances and tonight just happens to be their grand finale! Please welcome…. The Devil’s Four Angels!”

The crowd went absolutely feral.

“TJ!!”

It’s the loudest it’s been all night.

“COME ON PERCY!!”

As soon as TJ walked onto the stage followed by his other band members, it only got impossibly louder.

“AW LOOK AT TOBY!!”

“WOOOO DD!!”

The cheers only ceased when the first strum of Delilah’s guitar sounded through the speakers and they started the night off with their most popular song ‘Love at First Bite.’

Toby starts playing the bass right after her and Percy pulls it all together with the beat of his drums.

After a few seconds in, Tommy starts singing making all the girls clinging to the stage scream.

Tommy is a firm believer in breaking the fourth wall so when he sings the chorus which also happens to be the most romantic part of the song, he makes eye contact with each girl, getting really close so they can touch his shoes with the tips of their polished fingernails as they lose it.

He rocks his hips in a way that he knows will drive everyone in the crowd mad, and lowers his voice to that deep husky note he pulls off so well, moving along the stage as if he owns it. Like he was born to be here.

He’s a rockstar in every sense of the word and everyone knows it.

They adore him for it.

Tommy gets absolutely high off the attention, the beating of the lights on his face, the sweat, the noise, the cheers, the hot girls.

He decides to do something new, something a little bit risky, in honor of the possibly last show he does with his bandmates.

Tommy makes a motion to tell the crowd to make space for him to jump down and some of the security guards immediately start pushing through the crowd to make it to him in case things get out of hand.

Tommy jumps off the stage and reaches his hand out to the nearest girl who immediately clings to him, he looks down at her, bringing his face closer slowly in case she decides to move away. She doesn’t and he decides to go for it, kissing her deeply and then moving on to the next eager girl making out with them between lines until he has different shades of lipstick smeared on him.

By the time he gets back on stage all his friends and brother are red with laughter, Delilah rolls her eyes when she catches Tommy’s face turn into one that screams 'I just got laid' when he didn’t really. But he did kiss over twenty women in the span of a minute.

By the time they reached the end of their last song, they were all dazed with a tired euphoria. The announcer said something but none of them were really listening. They all got together in a big group hug on stage. A few tears slipped Tommy’s eyes and he wished he could rewind the last hour and do it all over again with his best mates.
