Before we dive into the story, a word from the author...
Provenance of the Offspring is a direct sequel to Million Sons. Unlike many of my works that can be read in any order, this entry is a continuation of the story from the previous novel. I would not advise reading it on its own.
Thank you for reading.
I would like to use this opportunity to feature some of the art I received for my most recent birthday!
Rose Blanche d'Avril by Emalie and Milenia the Witch Queen by Paradox <3
Thank you, everyone! I can't show some of the gifts as they were not all artwork. They made my day in many forms, poetry, ink, videos, and heartfelt messages <3
I'll leave the links to their awesome stories down in the description!
Now let's dive into the story!!!
In a small
office filled with various books and paperwork, with an occasional odd
mechanical device or prototype gadget on a shelf or table, a man with blue hair was sitting
facing away from the entrance. A quiet
whirring sound got louder as he grabbed a quill, followed by minor mechanical
noises as he started writing:
4990. Goldstadt fell. There were no official reports (as the two parties involved were orgriash and pirates, of which neither can write a report), but it is largely speculated that the city was overrun by the orgriash under the leadership of Queen Milenia. The infamous immortal pirate (not so much, as it turns out) Suiris was defeated and presumably killed in the attack.
4990. (same year; ask my dear assistant to put it together or keep separate?) Wasserstadt fell. It happened almost overnight. The pirates were no match for the Emnikatian ground forces. The deterrence they were counting on was compromised as the legendary Grand Captain; Rose Blanche d’Avril decided that it was, I quote "No’ a t’me fo’ r’vange. ‘Tis a t’me fo’ su’vival", end of quote.
"It is not a time for revenge. It’s time for survival…" the words stuck with me.
She took with her as many Wasserstadtians and some Goldstadtians (ask Lalane if these are the official terms) as she could put on the remaining ships and fled southwest to uncharted territory.
(my comment;
not a part of the article) Interestingly enough, it was a mixed year for the
4990. (a busy year it would seem) King Rahn Lester IV was assassinated.
Rumors say it was done by an inside faction. Reports state the King fend off 14 assassins before finally being killed.
Not surprisingly, as the Lester family is known for this maneuver; he was replaced by the next heir immediately; the present King, Rahn Lester the Vth. (do they keep them in reserves?)
4991. Noix (no…it may come across as odd to see me write in third person like some lunatic) I have discovered (Made? Constructed? Engineered?) the first in history ship with flying capabilities; an airship. Powered by the steam engine that my grandfather Nixx Smythe invented (that’s the word), and following the legacy of my father Naxen Smythe; the fabled blueprints (literary following the blueprints), the now already famous F.S. Noisemaker took her first flight in the open skies. (Flying Ship, to avoid confusion, or just initials to keep it short; ask Lalane, yet again )
She will have a lot to edit…
And now, almost
nine years later, in the year 5000, my fellow citizens of
*Kssshhht, ksshhhht*
"Oh what is it now…" he pressed a button on a device, "I am in the middle of something important—"
"Professor Smythe, I have urgent news!"
"Oh, Lalane, it’s you. I told you to call me Noix—"
"He’s awake!" Lalane interrupted him.
"Awake…?"
The man's yellow eyes widened and blue eyebrows lifted as a mixture of excitement and dread swelled up inside him. Hi missed the button a few times before finally pressing it right.
"You don’t mean...?" he asked rather cautiously as if it would make a difference.
"Yes, Professor!" Lalane repeated, "Label is awake!"
