Kiro And Raven: Chosen Hero

Chapter Four

Chapter Four

May 16, 2023

I wake, everything is gone and I feel... Not refreshed but something else. Sitting up, the white blanket falls down around me. I'm in the nurse station, the white curtains around me blocking all the sight and sound going about. I push it open a touch and see the Nurse sitting at her desk talking to Rebecca and Mrs. Lucy. I push it open all the way, gasping, "What happened?"

All three pairs of eyes turn to me, Rebecca wheeling to me and grabbing my neck pulling me down. "Are you alright? You idiot! If you were going to faint, then faint in the classroom, not on the stairs!" She hits my shoulders pathetically, but angrily. She's furious, so I try to calm her. She pulls me close to her, hugging me tightly Crying into my shoulders.

Mrs. Lucy pats my back, "Dear are you alright?"

I close my eyes, "I... I just had a headache... I'm sorry."

The Nurse, Mrs. Williams states, "I've contacted your father. He should be here soon, and I advised him to take you to the hospital."

The bell by the door rings and Luna walks in. She has a scratch on her arm and head. She sees me smiling, "My Aan." She walks on over to the nurse, "I hurt myself." She shows the wounds, "I fell and hit my head."

Rebecca cries out, "You too! Come here, you both are so clumsy!"

Luna sits next to me, "You're going to the hospital?" She brushes my cheeks, "You got hurt. What happened to you?"

I look away, "Just a headache."

Mrs. Lucy lightly touches Rebecca's shoulder, "Dear, your next class will be starting soon. YOu  better head to class."

"But Luna and Kiro!"

"Will be fine dear."

I squeeze her hands, "She's right. Go ahead. Luna and I will be fine."

Luna nods in agreement.

While she is still hesitant Rebecca does head on back to class. While the nurse watches over us until dad comes.

I lean my head against Luna's shoulder, "Something bad happened."

"I assumed so."

"What happened to you?"

"Oh this," She thinks for a second, "I knew something bad happened, so I purposely fell and hurt myself."

I roll my eyes, "Of course you did."

She smiles back, "I want to come with you to the hospital." She's texting her parents, nodding, "They don't mind as long as your dad doesn't."

"So you're coming with me?"

"Yes, Mother will meet us at the hospital afterward." She leans back, "What happened?" She glances at the nurse and back at me, "She's busy."

I still close the curtains before answering. "I heard... chanting, felt cold and empty... and had this massive migraine. I can't... I can't really describe it. It just hurt so much, and I lost balance at the stair steps." I move my arms around, "I'm unharmed really... I thought I'd be in a lot more pain."

Luna smiles, "Fate is on your side it appears." She touches my forehead, "You're only injury is your arm, and back."

"My arm and back?"

She nods, "That's all." She smiles, "You are stronger than you appear. I'm glad you are fine."

"As am I."

Luna hums, the exact tune I heard. I gap at her, and she just knowingly smiles, "That is what you heard right."

I nod in awe, "How did you know?!"

She shushes me quietly, "I just knew. I am glad it's what you heard and nothing else... No strange voices?"

"None,"

She nods, "Then all is still good... Hey, tonight I want to have a sleepover."

I laugh, "Why so suddenly?"

"Please!"

"Well... I'll ask Dad. My house is pretty much empty without the others around."

"My mother already gave permission."

"Of course," I say amusingly.

Dad bursts into the nurse's office, his voice is haggard as he ran all the way from the science ward here. He hugs me and lUna tight to his chest, "Are you, ok baby!" He holds both my cheeks in his broad hands enveloping my face. "I heard you fell! Where are you hurt?"

I mummer between his hands, "Imph, finph."

He pushes me back, "Get your stuff, we are going to the hospital now!"

Luna lifts a hand, "Me too, mother gave permission to the office already."

He nods, "Of course, girls let's go."

He gathers both our bags and walks us in front of him. Keeping an eye on both of us. In the van I sleep on Luna's shoulders, nodding on and off. Whenever I open my eyes, I see the flashing of trees bellowing past us and hear the sounds of cars as they whoosh on by. Closing my eyes it fades away into the background, and I dream once more.

I hear Dad and feel him shaking me. I wake with a start yawning and stretching. Dad helps me and Luna out, rushing us to the docs so that we can be checked in. At the entrance waiting for us, is Luna's mother.

She's medium height, leaning against the wall. Her long black hair has been pulled into two braids weaving down the front of her white shirt and black jeans. Her skin tone is a lighter bronze than others and has this touch of youthfulness to it. Her round, face has high cheekbones, and eyes the shape of berries and as dark as earthen soil. She doesn't wear any ornaments or anything fancy. As soon as she sees us she smiles, "Aay Kiro, Mr. Goldheart." She pulls Luna into a tight hug, "My Alxayx," She begins to speak in their native language, Luna too. After a bit, Luna's mother nods in agreement about something, turning to us, "I thank you for taking her here. I'll get her situated first.  Then we can talk, yes?"

"I see no problem in that." Dad smiles back, "And I told you to call me Aran."

"I will, I will, Aran." She waves a hand, "Then call me Susie and stop referring to me as Mrs. Not that old yet." She turns to us, "Let's go inside then."

While Dad and Luna's mom talked both LUna and I lean against one another, exhaustion blanketing the both of us. "Luna, did you ask Dad during the car ride?"

She yawns, "About the sleepover? Yes, he said it was good."

"Good...."

I wake again to dad shaking me. My doctor is here. His name is Mr. Gregory Gloss. I don't like him, but he's my doctor and I don't have much of a say, do I? He waves me in, my dad right behind me.

The doctor's office looks the same as before. Spotless white, with a strange smell of disinfectant all over the place. I sit on the long narrow bed, wrinkling the paper towels they place on them. Since I'm so short I play with my feet, unable to touch even the top step. I waited until the nurse came in, took my vitals, and after whatever doctors did Gregory came in to sit down at his desk and look over the paperwork.

I can feel his judging eyes all over me before he speaks. "So you fainted at school today? It looks like your vitals are all fine. So what happened?"

"I got sick and nauseous is all."

His eyes narrow, "What is all?"

"Yes."

He writes some things down before asking Dad, "Has there been anything recent in her history? Something new about her behavior or home life?"

I grit my teeth. I hate it when he talks to Dad and not to me. Like I'm not capable of making decisions or choices. Like I"m not even worth his time talking to me.

Dad shakes his head, "Her siblings have left home for good today, but other than that I don't believe Kiro has experienced any drastic changes."

He makes some more notes before asking, "Has she been hallucinating or hearing anything?"

Dad stiffens, "Not... that she has told me." he glances at me and I shake my head. Sorry, Dad, for lying but... I don't want to deal with this man any longer. I won't, I won't let him play with my head any longer.

Gregory finishes his doctor things standing up, "I'll order a brain scan just in case the fall may have caused some internal damages. Then I'll prescribe some meds for the headache." he leaves us.

Dad is quiet then whispers, "Are you hallucinating?"

I try to smile sweetly, "No Dad... You know I'd tell you and Mom if I were. I'm fine, seriously."

Sorry...

Once the doc gets back I am taken to a large white room with a gigantic machine that they slowly slide me into. It beeps and mummers making my headache worse if that's possible. I was then sent back to the waiting room, while Dad and the doc talks a touch longer.

I hear Luna's mother loudly, speaking partially in native and partially in English. The English part is not very nice. "I told you before, My Alxayx does not need you're 'Medicine'. She is not insane you...." she rants a bit longer, while I slide my hand into Luna's. Luna is surprisingly clam, never showing outward rage or anxiety. As carefree as when I first met her. Her blue, blue eyes turn to me, and she smiles sweetly, "My Aan. Thank you." We held hands waiting for both adults. They finished whatever it was they were doing and took us to the van.

Luna's mother shakes my Dad's hand, "Thanks for watching my Alxayx. I'll pick you up from school tomorrow." She kisses Luna's cheeks, "I love you."

Luna holds her face and kisses her back, "I love you too."

We wave and watch as she goes into her small car and drives off.

Dad takes the both of us home, and Luna and I run upstairs to the bedroom where we chose the door. I sigh, falling down to my knees. I'm breathing heavily, the weight of the lies getting to me. Squeezing my legs to my chest tight I cry, "Luna! I don't want to go through all that again! I don't want to tell the doctors about these things. They'll just shove pills down my throat, force therapy, and other things. They might actually send me to the looney bin again!"

Luna holds me tightly, "How many times must I tell you, My Aan. You are not insane, crazy, or schizophrenic." She kisses my forehead, "You have a special ability others do not have, you have the Sight. And it's a special gift."

"What's so special about it when It gets me in trouble."

She shakes her head, "You may not realize it now, but you will soon. It is a precious gift."

"I don't know..."

"Hey, let's forget about this." She lifts me upholding my hands tight, "Let's play some games, get your mind off of this. I promise you, all will be fine."

I swallow my fear, nodding. She's right... yes, she's right... I just have to keep looking forward, to my normalcy.
