In stark contrast to Greta’s world in Episode 001, we wanted to introduce Mae in a completely different light. She is a good hearted character that tries to do her best in challenging circumstances.
The art in this section of the story was quite challenging to produce as the story required a lot of background detail showcasing how Mae lives and how The Hoover functions.
I was inspired by the opening sequence to Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door where it took a moment to show a little bit of everyday life on the planet.
There are a variety of languages we used in this section. Bonus points for anyone who can translate them!
We’re seeing more world building in this chapter! So basically, the Hoover is the place where the poor/unqualified for the big city lives, right?
Btw, does that giant floating machine belong to the Hoover? I’m a bit curious about it.
Not sure what’s happening in the last panel, but it’s probably nothing good… I’m a bit worried for Mae now, can’t wait for the next chapter!!
P/S: I counted Russian(?), French, Japanese and Vietnamese.
Merci and ありがとう: thank you
Mèo của tôi cảm ơn bạn: my cats said thanks (?)
Not sure what the Russian(?) were saying though
BULLETPROOF CANDY is a modern love story set against a post-apocalyptic future dystopia. We follow MAE, a young woman barely scraping by, as she attempts to save her home by scoring a huge job. Mae becomes a data courier, and has to store precious data inside her own brain, then brave the dangers of the aptly named “Hellway” to deliver it. Making sure she gets there is GRETA, a trained assassin. As the two fight to survive, they grow ever closer, and come to question what would it mean to not just struggle through life alone, but thrive together?
Part THELMA & LOUISE, part MAD MAX, and part JOHN WICK, BULLETPROOF CANDY makes for a contemporary, action-packed romance.
So buckle up, and get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
