Stand Up Comedeme is a webcomic devoted to presenting useful & interesting academic research with a touch of humor. Well, hopefully more than a touch; let us say a "caress of humor." But not, like, in a sexually-harassy kind of way.
Initial topics are largely drawn from psychology, sociology, and historiography, as much of that work is very relevant to everyday life: e.g., what cognitive biases are and how they mislead us; how studying history can teach you about yourself; what psychological and sociological research can teach us about how to be happy, etc. As the series continues, the sky is the limit on topics (because meteorology is definitely out).
Comedy + Academe = Comedeme. Hence “Stand Up Comedeme.”
I did prefer “Stand Up Philosophy” but a) it’s not devoted solely to that particular discipline and b) I didn’t want to get sued by Mel Brooks.
Each topic (more or less) has been illustrated by a different artist, as I can’t draw and that’s what I’ve been able to afford. But if you know someone who’s reliable and interested in a long-term partnership with a writer, feel free to reach out :)
