Felicia took one last look in the mirror and spritz her favorite scent on before tossing the bottle into her purse. She smiled, satisfied with her look before rushing out of her room. "Girl hurry up," She heard her friend yell just before she hurried into the living room.
"About time." Skyye smiled and rolled her eyes before grabbing her keys off of the side table. It was going to be a long week but she was looking forward to a little lunch date with her bestie. "You know I'm not myself when I'm hungry."
"Just be quiet. You know I have to take my time to get fine. We don't all have it like you," Felicia said, jokingly following her friend outside. She waited for her friend's snarky response. She already knew how much she hated it when she said things like that. Felicia knew she was cute but Skyye was just beyond gorgeous. She eased up because she knew her friend hated all the extra flattery.
"Ugh! You are beautiful, with or without all the extra," Skyye flicked her hand at Felica's outfit. Skyye was not the biggest fan of Felicia's new look, but she didn't care. "You know what I mean. I hate when you do that."
"Girl, whatever. You know I like messing with you. You can't help it if you're pretty, boo," Felica unfolded the passenger's mirror to check her makeup in the new lighting. "I know I'm pretty too, though." Popping her lip with her fresh coating of lip gloss, she laughed at her friend's scowling face.
Ignoring Felicia's antics, Skyye settled into the car, ignoring Felicia's laughs by cranking up and turning on the radio.
"You don't have to be rude!" Felica yelled over the music before closing the door and fastening her seatbelt. Skyye rolled her eyes and started to rap to music. She laughed again. Her friend could be so serious at times and she loved her passion. "You know I'm joking."
"Giiiirl! Just turn up with me," she yelled over the music. They sang along with the radio as they drove to their favorite lunch spot, Don's. It was Monday and they had their classes set so they would be done by 2:30. They called it Early Morning Mondays, annoying, but it gave them their whole afternoon to do whatever they wanted.
"Oh, look. It's a space right in the front," Felicia said, noticing the space as soon as they turned. They looked around happily. Parking was a breeze because afternoon classes were just starting.
"I'm so glad we figured out the best time to get Don's. We should get a table immediately." Skyye said as she grabbed her purse before checking for her wallet and wireless charger.
"I love it when we get lucky like this!" Felicia said, "This will set the semester off." She grabbed her bag and got out of the car. It was a quick walk across the parking lot because of the good parking spot. The cool air conditioning of the pizza lounge felt great on their skin. It was hotter than usual this August and 5 minutes outside could make you pour sweat.
"Hi! Welcome to Don's," a familiar waitress, Katie greeted them before sitting with them in a booth near the front. She already knew they liked to get a good view of everyone as they came in. It was the perfect table. "Can I start you, ladies, out with something to drink?", she asked after placing the cutlery on the table and passing them their menus.
"I'll take a water with lemon on the side, please," Skyye asked without looking. She was checking over the new changes to Don's menu.
"I'll take a coke please," Felicia said cheerfully.
"Okay, I'll be right back with that for you ladies." The waitress smiled and left them to look over the menu.
The smell of pizza and wings made it hard for them to decide what they wanted. It had been months since they had been here and all the food was so delicious. As they looked at some of the new appetizers, Skkye's phone rang but she continued to look over the menu without looking at it. "You better answer before one of your little freaks gets upset with you, "Felicia laughed, teasing her friend.
"Girl, hush. I'm not interested in any one of those bitches right now." Skkye placed the menu on the table and scowled. "You know they are starting to become more trouble than anything else. It's the beginning of the semester. I might be better off just being single for a little bit."
The waitress returned with their drinks but they asked for a few more minutes to make their selections. "I thought you were single anyway," Felicia said after the waitress left to give them more time.
"Yea. But I want to be single. Like I don't want anyone feeling entitled to me and my time. Do you feel like me? I need a new kind of freedom," she said, squeezing the lemon juice into her water before taking a sip. "What about you and Ty? You really about to start that again?" Skkye felt a tinge of jealousy but ignored it and flashed her friend a mischievous smile. " I know you got some other shit going on too with this new look of yours. So, what's up there?
Felicia blushed heavily. She knew her friend would not let up on anything she had going on in her life. She sighed in relief when the waitress returned to take their order, giving her time to think about her response.
"We'll take the large buffalo chicken pizza with bleu cheese crumbles and a side of garlic butter, please. Thank you!" Skyye said quickly before Felicia could say anything. The waitress jotted it down and shuffled away.
"Why are you like that?" Felicia laughed. "You are rude!"
"That was not rude. She hears us talking and is probably trying to get a lil' tea and see what we're talking about. She ain't slick. You know Katie is nosy as fuck!"
Felica burst out laughing. "Girl! Hush!"
"Bihh! you know I ain't lying. Now back to you. What do you and Ty have going on? I've heard him come in and out of the apartment a few nights. I know it was him too."
Felicia blushed. She knew Skkye was home when Tyshawn came over but she could only imagine what she REALLY heard them doing. "I promise it's nothing serious. I don't have time to play with him right now. I have got other things to do." Felicia thought about her revenge and no longer felt nervous. "My focus right now is on getting what I want out of these men."
"Oh really, " Skkye frowned. She wasn't used to this side of Felicia. "So what is it that you're trying to get?"
Revenge.
Felecia frowned and decided to play innocent and keep her thoughts to herself. Skkye would not leave her alone if she told her that she wanted revenge.
"So you're just going to stare at me," Skkye asked, now annoyed with her friend.
"Huh," Felicia asked, glancing at her phone, avoiding eye contact with Skkye who was now glaring at her.
"Ugh, whatever." an awkward silence settled over the table. Just as Katie returned to the table with their order, both of their phones pinged. Both girls fumbled for their phones and avoided eye contact with each other. The silence was heavy between them and they both reached for the Pizza at the same time. Their hands touched and Skkye blushed furiously. Felicia rolled her eyes and continued to look into her phone as she nibbled her Pizza. She smiled at her phone as she texted Scotty back.
So when can I come to smoke with you? I like how we've been vibing at our little study sessions.
She had been meeting him in the library for study sessions, making sure to wear her finest outfits, feeding into the allure of her candy persona. She flirted just enough to keep him on the hook.
Skkye peeked over at Felicia, frowning when she noticed how much she was smiling at her phone. She couldn't help but feel jealous of whoever her friend was texting. Lately, her feelings towards her best friend were spiking and she couldn't control her sexual attraction to her. With her new look, she was so sexy to her but her elusive actions annoyed the fuck out of her. She needed a distraction.
She needed one badly.
Felicia closed her phone and smiled, deciding to text Scotty back late. She liked to leave him hanging for a few hours. It made his mind wander and she had learned from experience that it made him want her even more. Men always want what they cannot have.
Reaching for her next slice of pizza, she frowned, noticing that she was the only one who had touched the pizza at all. "Girl, what's wrong with you!" She fussed at her quiet friend. "Ain't you hungry? You are the one who wanted to come to this place anyway."
Oh shit.
Skkye hadn't noticed, she hadn't noticed that she had been daydreaming so much that she forgot to eat. "My bad girl, I didn't mean to space out. These bitches are always aggravating me," she said, fumbling with her phone, pretending as if she were texting the whole time.
"Okay, I hear you girl," she said to Skkye pretending as if she wasn't a little annoyed.
As Skkye reached for her first slice of pizza, Felicia's phone buzzed again and she was instantly filled with annoyance. She knew that she wouldn't be able to hide it much longer, especially if Felicia kept acting funny about her phone. Felicia smiled because it was Scotty texting her again. She knew when a guy double-texted it meant that he was really into her. She decided to ignore him. She smirked and flipped her phone over before reaching for another slice of pizza.
"Girl, how about we just take this pizza to go and just kick it at the house for a little bit until later on, we can go out or something, but right now I'm just you know I ain't feeling it," Skkye said, whipping her hands and sipping a little from her glass.
"Are you serious," she said, smacking her teeth. "We really just got here girl, but okay.'
Skkye rolled her eyes at her friend and pulled out two twenty-dollar bills to leave on the table. She wanted to just get up and leave but she fought the urge and played it cool, grabbing her things and asking for a to-go box.
"So," Skkye said casually, as they walked towards the car. "Who got you smiling and grinning at your phone? I know it ain't TJ."
"Girl, how do you know it ain't TJ? It could be you don't know," She said, laughing, opening the door.
Skkye closed the door, cranked the ignition, and turned on the radio, letting some soft Tunes play. "Nah, for real though. Girl, who is it? Like I know it ain't TJ. You acting funny anyways. If it was TJ, you would tell me everything he was saying. This is the only time you get a text, smirk, and act m funny. You even flipped your phone over on the table. What's up with that?"
Felicia laughed awkwardly, "Girl, hahaha, what do you mean? I don't know what you are talking about. You know it ain't nobody. Nobody important anyways."
"See how you are acting now? You usually tell me everything. Do you know how you feel like you can trust me? Now I feel like I can't trust you."
Felicia sighed loudly. "Girl, you are really tripping though! It ain't nothing serious. Don't worry about it. Just trust me, okay?"
Skkye decided not to answer. She rolled her eyes and turned the music up. It was a short ride to the apartment but it felt like it was hours until they got there because, for the first time, Felicia didn't have anything to say to her best friend.
