Chapter 9

Ava's father's disapproval of Jax had been weighing on Ava's mind. She had hoped that after revealing that Jax had saved his life, her father would see him in a different light, but that hadn't been the case. Every time Ava mentioned Jax, her father would scowl and mutter under his breath.

Ava was determined to make her father see that Jax was a good person. She decided to confront her father once and for all.

"Dad," Ava said, as they sat in the hospital room. "I need to talk to you about Jax."

Her father raised his eyebrow, clearly not happy about the topic. "What about him?"

"I know that you don't like him," Ava said. "But I want you to give him a chance. He's a good person, and he's always been there for me."

Ava's father let out a deep sigh. "Ava, I know that you care about him," he said. "But he's member of a gang. I can't just overlook that fact."

"Why not?" Ava asked. "He's a good person, he saved your life, Dad."

Ava's father looked at her with a pained expression. "You won't understand. I'll tell you one day when you're ready." he said. "I just don't want you to get hurt."

Ava was getting frustrated. "Dad, I'm not a child anymore. I can make my own decisions," she said. "And I choose to be with Jax. He's not like that. He's different. He's trying to make a better life for himself, and he's been nothing but kind and supportive to me."

Ava's father shook his head. "You're not seeing the bigger picture, Ava," he said. "He may seem nice to you, but he's still involved in criminal activities. It's not safe to be with him."

"You always tell me to give people a second chance, dad. Why can't you?" Ava asked with almost feral outburst of anger.

Ava's father's face turned red, his voice shaking with anger. "That's enough, Ava!" he yelled. "I've had it with you defending this criminal. You don't see what's going on, do you? He's brainwashed you, Ava. He's filling your head with lies and making you think he's some sort of hero."

Ava's heart was pounding in her chest. She had never seen her father so angry before. "That's not true, dad," she protested. "Jax is a good person. He's not brainwashing me."

"Ava, listen to yourself," her father said, trying to get up from the bed. "You're defending a criminal. You're putting yourself in danger, and you don't even realize it. He's not good for you, Ava. You need to get away from him."

Ava's frustration turned to anger. "I can't believe you're saying this," she said, standing up to face him. "Jax is the one who saved your life. He's the one who's been there for me when you weren't. And now you're telling me to leave him? No, dad. I won't do it. I can't do it."

Ava's father glared at her, his face twisted with anger. "Then go, Ava!" he shouted. "Go be with your criminal boyfriend. But don't come crying to me when he gets you into trouble."

Ava felt tears streaming down her face. She couldn't believe her father was being so unreasonable. Without another word, she stormed out of the hospital room and ran down the hallway, pushing past nurses and patients. She burst through the doors and into the parking lot, her heart pounding in her chest. She needed to get away. She needed to be alone.

Ava left the hospital feeling drained, emotionally exhausted from spending hours with her father. She was worried about him, but at the same time, she felt helpless. There was nothing she could do to make him better, and it was frustrating.

As she walked out of the hospital, she was greeted by two of Jax's enforcer wolves. They were large and intimidating, with thick fur and piercing eyes.

Ava recognized the enforcer wolves waiting outside the hospital. She had met them before during her visits to Jax's pack. She thanked them for their offer to escort her but declined, stating that she preferred to make her way to Jax's apartment on her own.

The wolves hesitated, but Ava assured them that she knew the way and promised to be careful. Reluctantly, the enforcers agreed, but they still followed at a distance to make sure she arrived safely.

As Ava made her way to Jax's apartment, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the enforcers' presence. It was a comfort to know that they were looking out for her.

As she stepped into Jax's apartment, Ava took a moment to look around. The place was clean, but there was an undeniable sense of disorganization. She could see that Jax wasn't exactly the tidiest person, but everything was still in its place, and the space felt cozy and lived-in.

The living room was spacious, with a large, comfortable-looking couch facing a flat-screen TV. A couple of throw pillows were scattered on the couch, and a cozy-looking blanket was draped over one end. The walls were painted a soft gray, and there were a few framed photos hanging on them. Ava noticed that most of the pictures were of Jax with his friends, all of whom looked like they were in their early twenties.

She walked over to a bookshelf that was packed with books of all kinds. Ava ran her fingers over the spines, taking note of the titles and authors. She spotted a few books on werewolves and supernatural creatures, which didn't surprise her given that Jax was a werewolf himself.

As she continued to explore the apartment, Ava's eyes caught on a picture frame sitting on a small table near the entrance. It was a photo of Jax hugging a woman, his arm wrapped around her waist. Ava's heart sank as she stared at the picture, feeling a sharp pang of jealousy. Who was this woman, and why did Jax have a picture of her in his apartment?

Just then, she heard the sound of the door unlocking and opening. Jax stepped inside, shutting the door behind him and setting down his keys on the table. When he saw Ava, a smile spread across his face.

"Hey, you're back," he said, walking over to her and giving her a warm hug.

Ava pulled away from him, feeling uneasy. "Who's this?" she asked, pointing to the picture on the table.

Jax followed her gaze and let out a sigh. "That's my ex-girlfriend, Fiona," he said. "We dated for a while, but it didn't work out. We're still friends, though."

Ava felt a knot form in her stomach. "Why do you have a picture of her?" she asked, trying to keep the jealousy out of her voice.

Jax shrugged. "It's just a picture. I don't have any feelings for her anymore," he said."We werewolves tend to live in the moment, so I forgot about it. I'm sorry, I should of told you about her sooner."

Ava looked at Jax for a moment, studying his expression. She trusted her gut and the feelings she had for him. She knew that he was being honest with her, and she could see that he genuinely cared for her.

Without saying a word, Ava walked up to Jax and wrapped her arms around him. Jax was surprised at first but quickly hugged her back, feeling her warmth and affection.

In that moment, everything felt right. The tension that had been building up between them dissipated, and they both felt at ease. They stayed in that embrace for a while, enjoying each other's company and the love that they shared.

"I trust you, Jax," Ava said, breaking the silence. "I believe in us."

Jax smiled, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders. He had been worried about how Ava would react to the photo, but now he knew that she trusted him.

"Thank you, Ava," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I'm glad you're in my life."

Ava pulled back slightly, looking up at him with a soft smile. "I'm glad I'm in your life too," she said.

The two of them stood there, holding each other, feeling grateful for the love and trust that they had found in each other.
