The moonlight shined as Iden was walking through the town of Dumbartone. The gleam of the moon reflected off of his blue skin and he felt more vulnerable than he has ever had in his life before. He felt exposed like he could be found at any given moment.
What has Menzost remembered of the stories that he has been told?
How does he already know it has something to do with the Great War of Shendon?
How much longer can he make up all these lies and keep shifting into the person he needs Adaram to be?
Will this take months? Or will this be a short mission for Iden?
Gascon begins to bark as he sees Iden come back to the shack that they have shared for a few nights, excited to see his new friend.
“Shut your damn mouth dog,” Iden says being precarious to make sure neither of them was to be heard, and better yet, found. “I need you to keep quiet. I understand that you like me or whatever but we have to lay low. Until I can find us a ride back to Stuya. It's our only hope of saving him.”
Sunlight is the opposite of moonlight. One that shines twenty times brighter from the moon which orbits them. Its plays peekaboo with Menzosts, and Adarams window through the curtain like he normally does. Like a playful banter of trying to decide whether it's time for them to wake or not.
Menzost awakes first sitting up with a loud bellowing yawn as if he is singing a deep bass solo. “Good morning hun,” he says while turning to Adaram. “I had some hell of a dream”
“Morning babe, I did too” Adaram goes on “I felt as if I were connected to Iden in some way. As if when I said ‘Everything is Connected’ were true.”
“Are you okay hun? I think we read too much into this last night. Let's go down and have some tea alright?” Menzost says while looking at Adaram who is starting for the door
“You couldn't have said it any better babe.”
As they continue to the kitchen, they find that the books that they have checked out have remained untouched. Yet the note from Iden seems to have vanished, better yet dissipated into thin air.
“What the fuck?” Menzost spoke first. “Where the hell did the note go?” Looking up at Adaram to realize that he had found a pile of ashes as if the note was to spontaneously combust and burn away without setting anything ablaze.
“There's something more going on this babe, there has to be a bigger plan. Something Iden wants us to figure out. He found us, specifically, as if we were his last resort.” Adaram says as he pours himself and Menzost a cup of tea.
“I think you're right hun, but what is it is he trying to have us figure out? How Estros has been telling lies for years and we have only just started noticing it?” Menzost says after he took a long sip of his tea, savoring every sip he has had.
“Babe, I am pretty sure that when I was reading the book about Stuya I read up on something like this. Hand me one of the books real fast.” Adaram says as he starts flipping through the pages of the book to find a chapter named ‘The Real King of Estros’.
“I found something babe, It says ‘The True King of Estros is the one and only son of Shendon, who was believed to be dead until he rose to become a noble in Stuya.” Adaram looks up from the book to see Menzosts jaw agape as if he has told him heartbreaking news.
“But what does this have to do with us or Gascon? Why did Iden come to find us? Does he think that we are the only ones who can help him since my grandfather knew him?” Menzost says after taking a sip of tea to solve his dry mouth.
“Iden has something planned, something nation-changing. I think what he wants is us to prove to him that we can help him prove to everyone about the truth of Shendon and who our rightful king is” Adaram finishes saying as he closes his book and gets up to get another cup of tea. “Would you like another cup babe? It's still hot.”
“I would thanks, hun. I am just trying to figure out why he needed Gascon though?” Menzost says whilst handing Adaram his cup.
“I think he needed to take Gascon as some sort of safety measure, to make sure that we actually listen. Gascon is out there somewhere, and so is Iden. He has the answers we both need. So I say he head out today and start looking for Iden” Adaram offers.
“That sounds like a plan to me hun. You also were saying about how you felt as if you were connected to Iden. What makes you say that? Was it a dream you had?” Menzost begins to stand up to put his cup away cause he has had his full of tea for the day.
“I had a really vivid dream, about the librarian, about Iden, maybe even some locations where he might be” Adaram starts breathing heavily as he tries to remember trying not to let down Menzost and even Gascon.
“Hey it's alright hun, take some breaths. It may get overwhelming but it's okay. We can get through this together.” Menzost grabs Adarams hand to reassure him that he will always be there for him.
“Thanks, babe. Let's get to the bottom of this!” Adaram exclaims excited to finally get to finding Gascon and better yet the truth of everything.
“So you said how you remember seeing the librarian in your dream?” Menzost asks while looking over at Adaram who is preparing bowls of porridge.
“Yea, I saw us from the eyes of the librarian, the one that was actually helpful to us,” Adaram says trying not to sound like he is going insane.
“Interesting. Seems to be as if during your dream you had some sense of clairvoyance. As if you could see into someone's eyes or even into the future.” Menzost exclaims.
“Huh. I never really noticed it until now but most of my dreams are like that. As if I was seeing life from someone else's eyes.” Adaram says looking confused as if he never noticed this already.
“What else did you see hun? Did you see where Iden was going?” Menzost asks.
“Well, I saw where the librarian was going babe. It was to this little shack on the border of Dumbartone and Grasmere, and I heard this barking coming from it.” Adaram looks up at Menzost with tears in his eyes “It was Gascons barking babe. I just know it was.”
“Alright, hun. I believe you but let's get composed before we head out. The library is closed today so hopefully, we can find answers to what you saw.” Menzost says as they both stand to get dressed.
